Social Workers\u27 Perceptions of Family Preservation Programs
The passage of the Adoptions and Safe Families Act of 1997, with its focus on child safety and concurrent planning, has presented family preservation workers with new challenges and new opportunities. Twenty volunteers from a large comprehensive social service agency were interviewed to determine their experiences with two models of family preservation—Multisystemic Therapy (MST) and Traditional Family Preservation Service (TFPS) or practice as usual. Workers from both programs were able to articulate values consistent with family preservation as important strengths of the programs— keeping families together and empowering families for example. Information from referring agencies was described as variable and not especially useful when working with seriously troubled families, especially as it related to risk and child safety. Both groups indicated that the jargon of family preservation had permeated their agencies, and that working with other agencies was at times a challenge, though for different reasons. Finally, despite some reservations about the effectiveness of short-term treatment with families that face serious challenges, both groups of workers were generally satisfied with family preservation as an approach to practice
Overhauser effect in individual InP/GaInP dots
Sizable nuclear spin polarization is pumped in individual InP/GaInP dots in a
wide range of external magnetic fields B_ext=0-5T by circularly polarized
optical excitation. We observe nuclear polarization of up to ~40% at Bext=1.5T
and corresponding to an Overhauser field of ~1.2T. We find a strong feedback of
the nuclear spin on the spin pumping efficiency. This feedback, produced by the
Overhauser field, leads to nuclear spin bi-stability at low magnetic fields of
Bext=0.5-1.5T. We find that the exciton Zeeman energy increases markedly, when
the Overhauser field cancels the external field. This counter-intuitive result
is shown to arise from the opposite contribution of the electron and hole
Zeeman splittings to the total exciton Zeeman energy

Suppression of nuclear spin diffusion at a GaAs/AlGaAs interface measured with a single quantum dot nano-probe
Nuclear spin polarization dynamics are measured in optically pumped
individual GaAs/AlGaAs interface quantum dots by detecting the time-dependence
of the Overhauser shift in photoluminescence (PL) spectra. Long nuclear
polarization decay times of ~ 1 minute have been found indicating inefficient
nuclear spin diffusion from the GaAs dot into the surrounding AlGaAs matrix in
externally applied magnetic field. A spin diffusion coefficient two orders

Correction of the cytomorphological changes by the quercetin in the mucous membrane of the mouth cavity of rats under the action of systemic pathogenic factors
The purpose of this research was to study the correction by the quercetin of the structural and functional changes in the mucous membrane of the mouth cavity of rats caused by the action of the doxaglide prooxidant and chronic emotional and painful stress in conditions of nutritional deficiencies in plant components.The research was conducted on 21 rats 1.5 months. age. The duration of the experiment was 60 days. Intact group (1) consisted of 7 rats, which were kept on a standard ration of the vivarium. In the 2nd group (7 rats), after 1 month of their non-polifenol diet were subjected to the combined effects of the delagil oral injections (5 mg / kg) and chronic emotional and pain stress. The protective effects of the quercetin have been studied with the combined effects of delagil, chronic stress and non-polifenol diet. Rats of the 3 group (7 animals), aftewr one month from the beginning diet were orally receiving quercetin (50 mg / kg) five times per week for 30 days.The combined effect of the epitheliotropic toxicant delagil, a chronic emotional pain syndrome with alimentary polyphenolic insufficiency, caused pronounced dystrophic changes in the epithelium and the intrinsic plate of the oral mucosa. Quercetin was the best corrector of inflammatory-destructive changes. The nature of the compensatory-regenerative processes in the cells of the epithelial layer acquired features inherent in the intact group. Quercetin prevented the oppression of proliferative activity of the epithelium

On the bi-stable nature of turbulent premixed bluff-body stabilized flames at elevated pressure and near lean blow-off
This study considers turbulent premixed bluff-body stabilized flames at elevated pressures. Specifically, the lean blow-off (LBO) limit of such flames is determined for a range of bulk velocities (5 U 50m/s) and operating pressures up to 3 bar. Two key observations emerge from this stability assessment. The first is that considering elevated pressure leads to two stability regimes: one at atmospheric conditions and those with elevated pressure and U & 20m/s (regime-a), and another at elevated pressures with U . 20m/s (regime-b). The second observation is that within these regimes, LBO limits are insensitive to pressure. Flames in regime-a (S-flames) are found to be more stable than those in regime-b (U-flames). Advanced image-based diagnostics were employed to understand reasons for this difference in stability. Flow field measurements indicate that U-flames are associated with an outer recirculation zone (ORZ) that formed as pressure increased but receded from the burner as U surpassed 20m/s. PLIF images of CH2O and OH demonstrated that the ORZ interacts with U-flames such that their downstream regions are prevented from collapsing to the inner recirculation zone (IRZ). Furthermore, analysis of the OH-PLIF images indicate that U-flames possess larger turbulent consumption rates, helping them form large IRZs and rendering them more susceptible to influence from the ORZ. Results of highspeed OH∗ imaging demonstrate that LBO events differ between U- and Sflames. Namely, while S-flames collapse to their IRZs during LBO, U-flames lift off from the burner, depleting their anchoring regions of reactions and hot products. Losing back-support in this region is what ultimately reduces the stability of U-flames. Finally, the reason U-flames lift off from the burner during LBO is elucidated by joint flow-flame measurements. Specifically, the anchoring regions of U-flames reside in regions of large axial velocity, which likely stems from their enhanced burning rates.No fundin
Predictability of Arbitrators\u27 Reliance on External Authority?
Should arbitrators consider authority-such as statutes or case law-external to the collective bargaining agreement when deciding labor grievances? Do they rely on such external authority? If so, do they do so in particular circumstances or in certain types of cases? To provide more insight on this often-debated issue, we have amassed a new data set of hundreds of labor arbitration awards spanning a decade. In contrast to previous research, we find that the overwhelming majority of awards do not cite to any external authority (statutes, administrative authorities, case law, or secondary sources). Yet, only a small fraction of awards explicitly decline to address a statutory issue or do not address external authority cited by one of the parties and mentioned in the award. Other significant findings: one or both parties being represented by an attorney in the arbitration hearing correlates with citation to external authority. Instances where arbitrators are drawn from the American Arbitration Association or the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service rosters result in a greater likelihood of citation to authority than when arbitrators are selected without aid of a service provider. Awards addressing claims asserting a breach of a just-cause provision are more likely than other types of contractual claims to cite to external authority

The article discusses modern approaches and features of management, as well as predicting the risk of complications in patients with cardiac arrhythmias, in particular, atrial fibrillation, and the potential of using conservative and interventional treatment methods for heart failure (HF), taking into account updates and achievements in clinical practice. Epidemiological data, algorithms for managing patients with HF and atrial fibrillation, prevention of thromboembolic events, results of studies comparing the effectiveness of different strategies for atrial fibrillation treatment, catheter ablation compared with drug therapy in patients with HF are presented
Quantum Deconstruction of a 5D SYM and its Moduli Space
We deconstruct the fifth dimension of the 5D SYM theory with SU(M) gauge
symmetry and Chern-Simons level k=M and show how the 5D moduli space follows
from the non-perturbative analysis of the 4D quiver theory. The 5D coupling
h=1/(g_5)^2 of the un-broken SU(M) is allowed to take any non-negative values,
but it cannot be continued to h<0 and there are no transitions to other phases
of the theory. The alternative UV completions of the same 5D SYM -- via M
theory on the C^3/Z_2M orbifold or via the dual five-brane web in type IIB
string theory -- have identical moduli spaces: h >= 0 only, and no flop
transitions. We claim these are intrinsic properties of the SU(M) SYM theory
