Leptogenesis implications in models with Abelian family symmetry and one extra real Higgs singlet
We show that the neutrino models, as suggested by Low, which have an
additional Abelian family symmetry and a real Higgs singlet to the default
see-saw do not hinder the possibility of successful thermal leptogenesis. For
these models (neglecting radiative effects), we have investigated the situation
of strong washout in both the one-flavor approximation and when flavor effects
are included. The result is that while such models predict that theta_{13}=0
and that one light neutrino to be massless, they do not modify or provide
significant constraints on the typical leptogenesis scenario where the final

Quantum fluctuations in coupled dark solitons in trapped Bose-Einstein condensates
We show that the quantum fluctuations associated with the Bogoliubov
quasiparticle vacuum can be strongly concentrated inside dark solitons in a
trapped Bose Einstein condensate. We identify a finite number of anomalous
modes that are responsible for such quantum phenomena. The fluctuations in
these anomalous modes correspond to the `zero-point' oscillations in coupled

Photon collection from a trapped ion--cavity system
We present the design and implementation of a trapped ion cavity QED system.
A single ytterbium ion is confined by a micron-scale ion trap inside a 2 mm
optical cavity. The ion is coherently pumped by near resonant laser light while
the cavity output is monitored as a function of pump intensity and cavity
detuning. We observe a Purcell enhancement of scattered light into the solid
angle subtended by the optical cavity, as well as a three-peak structure
arising from strongly driving the atom. This system can be integrated into
existing atom{photon quantum network protocols and is a pathway towards an
efficient atom{photon quantum interface
The Evolutionary Status of SS433
We consider possible evolutionary models for SS 433. We assume that
common-envelope evolution is avoided if radiation pressure is able to expel
most of a super-Eddington accretion flow from a region smaller than the
accretor's Roche lobe. This condition is satisfied, at least initially, for
largely radiative donors with masses in the range 4-12 solar masses. For donors
more massive than about 5 solar masses, moderate mass ratios q = M_2/M_1 > 1
are indicated, thus tending to favor black-hole accretors. For lower mass
donors, evolutionary considerations do not distinguish between a neutron star
or black hole accretor. In all cases the mass transfer (and mass loss) rates
are much larger than the likely mass-loss rate in the precessing jets. Almost
all of the transferred mass is expelled at radii considerably larger than the
jet acceleration region, producing the "stationary" H-alpha line, the infrared

Dirac quantization of membrane in time dependent orbifold
We present quantum theory of a membrane propagating in the vicinity of a time
dependent orbifold singularity. The dynamics of a membrane, with the parameters
space topology of a torus, winding uniformly around compact dimension of the
embedding spacetime is mathematically equivalent to the dynamics of a closed
string in a flat FRW spacetime. The construction of the physical Hilbert space
of a membrane makes use of the kernel space of self-adjoint constraint
operators. It is a subspace of the representation space of the constraints
algebra. There exist non-trivial quantum states of a membrane evolving across

Characteristics of Two-Dimensional Quantum Turbulence in a Compressible Superfluid
Under suitable forcing a fluid exhibits turbulence, with characteristics
strongly affected by the fluid's confining geometry. Here we study
two-dimensional quantum turbulence in a highly oblate Bose-Einstein condensate
in an annular trap. As a compressible quantum fluid, this system affords a rich
phenomenology, allowing coupling between vortex and acoustic energy.
Small-scale stirring generates an experimentally observed disordered vortex
distribution that evolves into large-scale flow in the form of a persistent
current. Numerical simulation of the experiment reveals additional
characteristics of two-dimensional quantum turbulence: spontaneous clustering
of same-circulation vortices, and an incompressible energy spectrum with
dependence for low wavenumbers and dependence for high

Beyond shareholder primacy? Reflections on the trajectory of UK corporate governance.
Core institutions of UK corporate governance, in particular the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers, the Combined Code on Corporate Governance and the law on directorsâ duties, are strongly orientated towards the norm of shareholder primacy. Beyond the core, however, stakeholder interests are better represented, in particular at the intersection of insolvency and employment law. This reflects the influence of European Community laws on information and consultation of employees. In addition, there are signs that some institutional shareholders are redirecting their investment strategies, under government encouragement, away from a focus on short-term returns, in such a way as to favour stakeholder-inclusive practices by firms. On this basis we suggest that the UK system is currently in a state of flux and that the debate over shareholder primacy has not been concluded
The purpose of mess in action research: building rigour though a messy turn
Mess and rigour might appear to be strange bedfellows. This paper argues that the purpose of mess is to facilitate a turn towards new constructions of knowing that lead to transformation in practice (an action turn). Engaging in action research - research that can disturb both individual and communally held notions of knowledge for practice - will be messy. Investigations into the 'messy area', the interface between the known and the nearly known, between knowledge in use and tacit knowledge as yet to be useful, reveal the 'messy area' as a vital element for seeing, disrupting, analysing, learning, knowing and changing. It is the place where long-held views shaped by professional knowledge, practical judgement, experience and intuition are seen through other lenses. It is here that reframing takes place and new knowing, which has both theoretical and practical significance, arises: a 'messy turn' takes place
Clientsâ experiences of the Boston Psychiatric Rehabilitation Approach: A qualitative study
The Boston Psychiatric Rehabilitation Approach (BPR) is person-centered and characterized by being based entirely on the individual's unique needs and preferences in the areas of working, learning, social contacts, and living environment. Nevertheless, the person-centered approach is lacking firm evidence regarding outcomes, and empirical studies regarding clientsâ experiences of this particular model are needed. A qualitative content analysis of 10 transcribed semistructured individual interviews was used to describe and explore clientsâ experiences of the BPR during an implementation project in Sweden. The findings from the interviews could be summarized in âA sense of being in communion with self and othersâ theme, consisting of three categories: increased self-understanding, getting new perspectives, and being in a trusting relationship. The results showed that clients do not always recognize nor are able to verbalize their goals before they have been given the possibility to reflect their thoughts in collaboration with a trusted person. The guidelines of the approach are intended to support the clientsâ ability to participate in decision making regarding their own care. More research about efficacy of different rehabilitation approaches and exploration of fidelity to guidelines of rehabilitation programs are required
