    A SURVEY ON ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM

    A novel Ant Colony Optimization algorithm (ACO) combined for the hierarchical multi- label classification problem of protein function prediction. This kind of problem is mainly focused on biometric area, given the large increase in the number of uncharacterized proteins available for analysis and the importance of determining their functions in order to improve the current biological knowledge. Because it is known that a protein can perform more than one function and many protein functional-definition schemes are organized in a hierarchical structure, the classification problem in this case is an instance of a hierarchical multi-label problem. In this classification method, each class might have multiple class labels and class labels are represented in a hierarchical structure—either a tree or a directed acyclic graph (DAG) structure. A more difficult problem than conventional flat classification in this approach, given that the classification algorithm has to take into account hierarchical relationships between class labels and be able to predict multiple class labels for the same example.     Design and Analysis of a Multi-Agent E-Learning System Using Prometheus Design Tool

    Agent unified modeling languages (AUML) are agent-oriented approaches that supports the specification, design, visualization and documentation of an agent-based system. This paper presents the use of Prometheus AUML approach for the modeling of a Pre-assessment System of five interactive agents. The Pre-assessment System, as previously reported, is a multi-agent based e-learning system that is developed to support the assessment of prior learning skills in students so as to classify their skills and make recommendation for their learning. This paper discusses the detailed design approach of the system in a step-by-step manner; and domain knowledge abstraction and organization in the system. In addition, the analysis of the data collated and models of prediction for future pre-assessment results are also presented.Comment: 17 figures, 3 table

    Optimization and Characterization of Thermostable Endo and Exocellulases by Humicola sp. SKESMBKU03

    Humicola sp. SKESMBKU03, a cellulase producer was isolated from horse dung manure collected from Hyderabad, Telangana. In the present study, endo and exoglucanase production from Humicola sp. SKESMBKU03 was studied and optimization of the cultural conditions to enhance production of enzymes has been reported. Among the twenty fungal cellulase producers isolated from different thermogenic habitats, the fungal strain ‘HD3’ identified as Humicola sp. SKESMBKU03 exhibited highest cellulase activity by plate screening assay. To enhance the production level of the enzyme, different cultural conditions were optimized and observed that optimum pH and temperature for endo and exoglucanase production was 5.0 and 45oC respectively. Maximum growth as well as enzyme production was recorded on 3rd day of incubation period in shake flask (100RPM) containing Mandel’s Weber medium. Urea and malt extract among the organic nitrogen sources while ammonium chloride as inorganic nitrogen source were found to be the best nitrogen source (0.2%) for endo and exoglucanase production. The endo and exoglucanase activities are higher in media containing glucose as their carbon source (1%) followed by xylose and lactose. The organism showed maximum dry weight in pH of 9.0-10.0, temperature of 45oC, cellulose as carbon sources, yeast extract and malt extract of nitrogen source. The endo and exocellulases produced by the Humicola sp. SKESMBKU03 are highly stable at pH 8.0 and temperature of 750C. The results indicate that the endo and exocellulases produced by Humicola sp. SKESMBKU03 are more stable at high temperature and alkaline pH

    Orbital order-disorder transition in La(1-x)Nd(x)MnO(3) (x = 0.0-1.0) and La(1-x-y)Nd(yx)Sr(y)MnO(3) (x = 0.1; y = 0.05,0.1)

    The nature of orbital order-disorder transition has been studied in the La(1-x)Nd(x)MnO(3) (x = 0.0-1.0) series which covers the entire range between two end points - LaMnO(3) and NdMnO(3) - as well as in La(0.85)Nd(0.1)Sr(0.05)MnO(3) and La(0.8)Nd(0.1)Sr(0.1)MnO(3). It has been observed that the first-order nature of the transition gives way to higher order with the increase in "x" in the case of pure manganites. The latent heat (L) associated with the transition, first, drops with a steeper slope within x = 0.0-0.3 and, then, gradually over a range 0.3<x<0.9. This drop could, possibly, be due to evolution of finer orbital domain structure with "x". In the case of Sr-doped samples, the transition appears to be of higher-order nature even for a doping level 5 at%. In both cases, of course, the transition temperature T(JT) rises systematically with the drop in average A-site radius or rise in average Mn-O-Mn bond bending angle while no apparent correlation could be observed with doping induced disorder sigma^2.     The effect of 24-epibrassinolide and 28-homobrassinolide on the soluble proteins, nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and carbohydrate fractions (reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars and starch) of radish was studied. Brassinosteroids elevated the soluble proteins of radish. Nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) were also increased by brassinosteroid- application. Increased levels of carbohydrates in terms of reducing sugars, non - reducing sugars and starch was also observed.Â

    The effect of brassinolide on the qualitative changes in the storage roots of radish was studied. Brassinolide stimulated the growth of radish roots. The root growth promotion was associated with increased levels of reducing sugars, starch, soluble proteins and minerals like phosphorous, potassium, calcium, iron and sodium. Brassinolide further increased the contents of ascorbic acid and niacin present in the roots indicating their ability to improve the over all quality of storage roots of radish.&nbsp

    The effect of 24-epibrassinolide and 28-homobrassinolide on the activities of two oxidizing enzymes (catalase and peroxidase) and two hydrolyzing enzymes (ribonuclease and protease) of radish plants were studied. Both the brassinosteroids stimulated the activity of the oxidizing enzyme, catalase of the radish plants. The activity of the other oxidizing enzyme peroxidase was decreased by the application of 24-epibrassinolide and 28-homobrassinolide. Brassinosteroid-treatment resulted in lowered protease as well as ribonuclease activity

    Development and feasibility testing of an evidence-based occupational therapy program for adults with both Down syndrome and dementia

    This paper describes the development of a home-based occupational therapy intervention program for people with Down syndrome who experience early on-set dementia causing a decline in their performance skills and increasing care dependency on their informal caregivers. A six-step methodological process adapted from the Medical Research Council framework for developing and evaluating complex interventions was formulated to develop an evidence-based occupational therapy program for people with both Down syndrome and dementia and their informal caregivers. The first two steps gathered evidence through systematic reviews of the literature and determined the scope of current occupational therapy practice. The gathered evidence was synthesised in step three to develop a client-centred occupational therapy intervention program for persons with both Down syndrome and dementia and their informal caregivers. In steps four and five, opinions were sought from occupational therapists working in this area of practice on the content of the developed program and its feasibility within the Australian disability services context. The final testing step can be conducted in the future using a single-case experimental design study. It is important to use rigorous frameworks and gather comprehensive evidence using multiple methods to develop interventions for small heterogeneous populations. The developed occupational therapy program for persons with both Down syndrome and dementia and their informal caregivers appears feasible to be implemented within the Australian disability services; however, funding limitations imposes barriers for its implementation in clinical practice

    Dust Properties in the FUV in Ophiuchus

    We have derived the albedo (aa) and phase function asymmetry factor (gg) of interstellar dust grains at 1100 \AA ~ using archival {\it Voyager} observations of diffuse radiation in Ophiuchus. We have found that the grains are highly forward scattering with g=g = 0.55 ±\pm 0.25 and a=a = 0.40 ±\pm 0.10. Even though most of the gas in this direction is in the Ophiuchus molecular cloud, the diffuse FUV radiation is almost entirely due to scattering in a relatively thin foreground cloud.
