Effect of Knife Jointing on the Gluing Properties of Wood

    Get PDF
Jointing is a common practice required to produce the same cutting circle for all knives mounted in a culterhead of a peripheral knife planer. This practice also is sometimes used wrongly to refresh slightly dulled knives. Initially the jointed land at the cutting edge has a 0 degree clearance angle, which becomes negative with the workpiece motion relative to the cutterhead and as the cutting edge wears. The jointing operation potentially could crush a thin layer of the planed board and affect the wood quality and performance. The gluing properties of sugar maple, red oak, and spruce woods were evaluated using four jointed land widths. A wider jointed land affected the surface quality and resulting gluing shear strength differently depending on anatomical differences of the specific woods. The effect of knife jointing was more pronounced where the moisture content of the samples had fluctuated

Effect of Re-Wetting Treatment on the Dimensional Changes of Sugar Maple Wood

    Get PDF
Air-dry wood samples are often simply re-wetted by direct immersion in order to raise the moisture content above the fiber saturation point. It is assumed that this treatment has no effect on the properties of wood and is equivalent to the green condition. A preliminary study was undertaken here to evaluate the influence of water re-saturation processes on the dimensional changes in sugar maple wood. Matched samples were subjected to three different full-water saturation treatments, from a four-step mild procedure to a one-step drastic procedure. Results showed that the re-wetting process had a significant effect on swelling and shrinkage of sugar maple wood

The new record of a puffer fish “Takifugu oblongus Bloch, 1786” (Tetraodontiformes, Tetraodontidae) is recorded for the first time the muddy shores of the inter-tidal zone of Bandar-e-Abbas city, in the northern Persian Gulf, Iran in March 2011. The morphological features of Takifugu oblongus are described. This species has previously been recorded from Indo-West Pacific, South Africa to Indonesia, Japan, China, and Korea (locality type). This finding considerably extends our knowledge of the distribution of Takifugu oblongus

The mammals of Anzali Wetland in the Southern Caspian Sea

Anzali Wetland as a listed habitat in Montreux Record, was investigated for the mammal fauna during Jan. 2015 - Jan. 2016. About 165 km of water bodies and 200 km around Anzali Wetland were patrolled, respectively. By applying different methods, such as direct observation, different signs recording, using different sampling traps, nets and camera traps, twenty mammal species were identified from 5 orders and 13 families. While Wild boar,Golden Jackal and Common otter were widely distributed, Common badger, Asiatic wildcat and Jungle cat were observed in some parts of this wetland. Six rodent species were recognized in different parts of the wetland. Among four identified bat species, Nathusius’s pipistrelle has been reported only from this region in Iran. The most commonly recorded bat species was the Soprano pipistrelle, a species hereto recorded only from two Iranian localities. Two recognized species from order Eulipotyphla; Caspian shrew and a mysterious mole are important due to their narrow geographical distribution range as well as their taxonomic situation. Although there was no quantitative or qualitative data from the past, our results show that the situation of many mammal species are not suitable, and some of them are being increasingly threatened

Synthesis of ytterbium tungstate with excellent pseudocapacitive behavior and a high cycling stability material for supercapacitors

    Get PDF
Nanoparticles of ytterbium tungstate prepared through the direct addition of an Yb3+ solution to a tungstate solution, were computed through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Further the supercapacitive characteristics of the nanoparticles, as a potential material for constructing electrodes, were evaluated through cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge/discharge (GCD) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Electrodes made of the Yb2(WO4)3 had a specific capacitance (SC) value of 336 F g-1 in a 2.0 M H2SO4 solution at a potential scan rate of 2 mV s-1; and 298 F g-1 at a current density of 1 A g-1 based on GCD tests. The electrodes also revealed to have a 95.8 cycling durability after 4000 potential cycles. © 2020 by CEE (Center of Excellence in Electrochemistry)

A review of IPv6 multihoming solutions

    Get PDF
Abstract -Multihoming is simply defined as having connection to the Internet through more than one Internet service provider. Multihoming is a desired functionality with a growing demand because it provides fault tolerance and guarantees a continuous service for users. In the current Internet, which employs IPv4 as the network layer protocol, this functionality is achieved by announcing multihomed node prefixes through its all providers. But this solution, which employs Border Gateway Protocol, is not able to scale properly and adapt to the rapid growth of the Internet. IPv6 offers a larger address space compared to IPv4. Considering rapid growth of the Internet and demand for multihoming, the scalability issues of the current solution will turn into a disaster in the future Internet with IPv6 as the network layer protocol. A wide range of solutions have been proposed for multihoming in IPv6. In this paper, we briefly review active solutions in this area and perform an analysis, from deployability viewpoint, on them

Influence of gravitational field on quantum-nondemolition measurement of atomic momentum in the dispersive Jaynes-Cummings model

    Get PDF
We present a theoretical scheme based on su(2) algebra to investigate the influence of homogeneous gravitational field on the quantum nondemolition measurement of atomic momentum in dispersive Jaynes-Cummings model. In the dispersive Jaynes-Cummings model, when detuning is large and the atomic motion is in a propagating light wave, we consider a two-level atom with quantized cavity-field in the presence of a homogeneous gravitational field. We derive an effective Hamiltonian describing the dispersive atom-field interaction in the presence of gravitational field. We can see gravitational influence both on the momentum filter and momentum distribution. Moreover, gravitational field decreases both tooth spacing of momentum and the width of teeth of momentum.Comment: 21 pages, 8 figure

A consensus prognostic gene expression classifier for ER positive breast cancer.

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: A consensus prognostic gene expression classifier is still elusive in heterogeneous diseases such as breast cancer. RESULTS: Here we perform a combined analysis of three major breast cancer microarray data sets to hone in on a universally valid prognostic molecular classifier in estrogen receptor (ER) positive tumors. Using a recently developed robust measure of prognostic separation, we further validate the prognostic classifier in three external independent cohorts, confirming the validity of our molecular classifier in a total of 877 ER positive samples. Furthermore, we find that molecular classifiers may not outperform classical prognostic indices but that they can be used in hybrid molecular-pathological classification schemes to improve prognostic separation. CONCLUSION: The prognostic molecular classifier presented here is the first to be valid in over 877 ER positive breast cancer samples and across three different microarray platforms. Larger multi-institutional studies will be needed to fully determine the added prognostic value of molecular classifiers when combined with standard prognostic factors
