Detection and imaging of the oxygen deficiency in single crystalline YBa2_{\text{2}}Cu3_{\text{3}}O7δ_{\text{7}-\delta} thin films using a positron beam

Single crystalline YBa2_{\text{2}}Cu3_{\text{3}}O7δ_{\text{7}-\delta} (YBCO) thin films were grown by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) in order to probe the oxygen deficiency δ\delta using a mono-energetic positron beam. The sample set covered a large range of δ\delta (0.191<δ\delta<0.791) yielding a variation of the critical temperature TcT_{\text{c}} between 25 and 90\,K. We found a linear correlation between the Doppler broadening of the positron electron annihilation line and δ\delta determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Both, the origin of the found correlation and the influence of metallic vacancies, were examined with the aid of ab-initio calculations that allowed us (i) to exclude the presence of Y vacancies and (ii) to ensure that positrons still probe δ\delta despite the potential presence of Ba or Cu vacancies. In addition, by scanning with the positron beam the spatial variation of δ\delta could be analyzed. It was found to fluctuate with a standard deviation of up to 0.079(5)0.079(5) within a single YBCO film

Objective: Many existing tests of social cognition are not appropriate for clinical use, due to their length, complexity or uncertainty in what they are assessing. The Edinburgh Social Cognition Test (ESCoT) is a new test of social cognition that assesses affective and cognitive Theory of Mind as well as inter- and intrapersonal understanding of social norms using animated interactions.Method: To support the development of the ESCoT as a clinical tool, we derived cut-off scores from a neurotypical population (n = 236) and sought to validate the ESCoT in a sample of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD; n = 19) adults and neurotypical controls (NC; n = 38) matched on age and education. The ESCoT was administered alongside established tests and questionnaire measures of ASD, empathy, systemizing traits and intelligence. Results: Performance on the subtests of the ESCoT and ESCoT total scores correlated with performance on traditional tests, demonstrating convergent validity. ASD adults performed poorer on all measures of social cognition. Unlike the ESCoT, performance on the established tests was predicted by verbal comprehension abilities. Using a ROC curve analysis, we showed that the ESCoT was more effective than existing tests at differentiating ASD adults from NC. Furthermore, a total of 42.11% of ASD adults were impaired on the ESCoT compared to 0% of NC adults. Conclusions: Overall these results demonstrate that the ESCoT is a useful test for clinical assessment and can aid in the detection of potential difficulties in ToM and social norm understanding

OBJECTIVES: We studied discordance between health literacy of people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) and assessment of health literacy by their treating health professionals, and explored whether discordance is associated with the patients' socioeconomic background. METHODS: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), spondyloarthritis (SpA), or gout from three Dutch outpatient rheumatology clinics completed the nine-domain Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ). Treating health professionals assessed their patients on each HLQ domain. Discordance per domain was defined as a ≥ 2-point difference on a 0-10 scale (except if both scores were below three or above seven), leading to three categories: "negative discordance" (i.e. professional scored lower), "probably the same", or "positive discordance" (i.e. professional scored higher). We used multivariable multilevel multinomial regression models with patients clustered by health professionals to test associations with socioeconomic factors (age, gender, education level, migration background, employment, disability for work, living alone). RESULTS: We observed considerable discordance (21-40% of patients) across HLQ domains. Most discordance occurred for "Critically appraising information" (40.5%, domain 5). Comparatively, positive discordance occurred more frequently. Negative discordance was more frequently and strongly associated with socioeconomic factors, specifically lower education level and non-Western migration background (for five HLQ domains). Associations between socioeconomic factors and positive discordance were less consistent. CONCLUSION: Frequent discordance between patients' scores and professionals' estimations indicates there may be hidden challenges in communication and care, which differ between socioeconomic groups. Successfully addressing patients' health literacy needs cannot solely depend on health professionals' estimations but will require measurement and dialogue

Cross section ratio and angular distributions of the reaction p + d -> 3He + eta at 48.8 MeV and 59.8 MeV excess energy

We present new data for angular distributions and on the cross section ratio of the p + d -> 3He + eta reaction at excess energies of Q = 48.8 MeV and Q = 59.8 MeV. The data have been obtained at the WASA-at-COSY experiment (Forschungszentrum J\"ulich) using a proton beam and a deuterium pellet target. While the shape of obtained angular distributions show only a slow variation with the energy, the new results indicate a distinct and unexpected total cross section fluctuation between Q = 20 MeV and Q = 60 MeV, which might indicate the variation of the production mechanism within this energy interval.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figure

New data on quasifree polarized neutron-proton scattering, in the region of the recently observed dd^* resonance structure, have been obtained by exclusive and kinematically complete high-statistics measurements with WASA at COSY. This paper details the determination of the beam polarization, checks of the quasifree character of the scattering process, on all obtained AyA_y angular distributions and on the new partial-wave analysis, which includes the new data producing a resonance pole in the 3D3^3D_3-3G3^3G_3 coupled partial waves at (2380±10i40±52380\pm10 - i40\pm5) MeV -- in accordance with the dd^* dibaryon resonance hypothesis. The effect of the new partial-wave solution on the description of total and differential cross section data as well as specific combinations of spin-correlation and spin-transfer observables available from COSY-ANKE measurements at TdT_d = 2.27 GeV is discussed

Measurement of the pnppπ0πpn \to pp\pi^0\pi^- Reaction in Search for the Recently Observed Resonance Structure in dπ0π0d\pi^0\pi^0 and dπ+πd\pi^+\pi^- systems

Exclusive measurements of the quasi-free pnppπ0πpn \to pp\pi^0\pi^- reaction have been performed by means of pdpd collisions at TpT_p = 1.2 GeV using the WASA detector setup at COSY. Total and differential cross sections have been obtained covering the energy region s\sqrt s = (2.35 - 2.46) GeV, which includes the region of the ABC effect and its associated resonance structure. No ABC effect, {\it i.e.} low-mass enhancement is found in the π0π\pi^0\pi^--invariant mass spectrum -- in agreement with the constraint from Bose statistics that the isovector pion pair can not be in relative s-wave. At the upper end of the covered energy region tt-channel processes for Roper, Δ(1600)\Delta(1600) and ΔΔ\Delta\Delta excitations provide a reasonable description of the data, but at low energies the measured cross sections are much larger than predicted by such processes. Adding a resonance amplitude for the resonance at mm=~2.37 GeV with Γ\Gamma =~70 MeV and I(JP)= 0(3+)I(J^P)=~0(3^+) observed recently in pndπ0π0pn \to d\pi^0\pi^0 and pndπ+πpn \to d\pi^+\pi^- reactions leads to an agreement with the data also at low energies

Evidence for a New Resonance from Polarized Neutron-Proton Scattering

Exclusive and kinematically complete high-statistics measurements of quasifree polarized np\vec{n}p scattering have been performed in the energy region of the narrow resonance structure dd^* with I(JP)=0(3+)I(J^P) = 0(3^+), MM \approx 2380 MeV/c2c^2 and Γ\Gamma \approx 70 MeV observed recently in the double-pionic fusion channels pndπ0π0pn \to d\pi^0\pi^0 and pndπ+πpn \to d\pi^+\pi^-. The experiment was carried out with the WASA detector setup at COSY having a polarized deuteron beam impinged on the hydrogen pellet target and utilizing the quasifree process dpnp+pspectator\vec{d}p \to np + p_{spectator}. That way the npnp analyzing power AyA_y was measured over a large angular range. The obtained AyA_y angular distributions deviate systematically from the current SAID SP07 NN partial-wave solution. Incorporating the new AyA_y data into the SAID analysis produces a pole in the 3D33G3^3D_3 - ^3G_3 waves as expected from the dd^* resonance hypothesis

An exclusive measurement of the excitation function for the dd->3Heppi- reaction was performed at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY-Juelich with the WASA-at-COSY detection system. The data were taken during a slow acceleration of the beam from 2.185 GeV/c to 2.400 GeV/c crossing the kinematic threshold for the eta meson production in the dd->4He-eta reaction at 2.336 GeV/c. The corresponding excess energy with respect to the 4He-eta system varied from -51.4MeV to 22MeV. The integrated luminosity in the experiment was determined using the dd->3Hen reaction. The shape of the excitation function for the dd->3Heppi- was examined. No signal of the 4He-eta bound state was observed. An upper limit for the cross-section for the bound state formation and decay in the process dd->(4He-eta)bound->3Heppi- was determined on the 90% confidence level and it varies from 20nb to 27nb for the bound state width ranging from 5MeV to 35MeV, respectively.Comment: 8 pages, 9 figure
