    A Class of Distal Functions on Semitopological Semigroups

    The norm closure of the algebra generated by the set {nλnk:\{n\mapsto {\lambda}^{n^k}: λT\lambda\in{\mathbb {T}} and kN}k\in{\mathbb{N}}\} of functions on (Z,+)({\mathbb {Z}}, +) was studied in \cite{S} (and was named as the Weyl algebra). In this paper, by a fruitful result of Namioka, this algebra is generalized for a general semitopological semigroup and, among other things, it is shown that the elements of the involved algebra are distal. In particular, we examine this algebra for (Z,+)({\mathbb {Z}}, +) and (more generally) for the discrete (additive) group of any countable ring.     Transfusion-related acute lung injury in multiple traumatized patients

    Background: Many of the multiple traumatized patients who refer to the hospital need transfusion. Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) is a serious clinical syndrome associated with the transfusion of plasma-containing blood components. In the article, we present a case of TRALI following transfusion of packed red blood cells Case Presentation: A 24 year old male referred to Shahid Beheshti Hospital due to multiple trauma with left femoral and humerus fractures. Due to severe anemia he received 3 units of packed red blood cells. The symptoms of TRALI began 2 hours after transfusion. He was transferred to intensive care unit (ICU) due to metabolic acidosis and severe hypoxia. The TRALI was confirmed after ruling out the other probable pulmonary diseases. He recovered and was discharged. Conclusion: Transfusion related acute lung injury should be considered in any case receiving transfusion of plasma containing blood components

    Benefits of using intrathecal buprenorphine

    Background: General anesthesia draws attention to the most commonly used modalities for post cesarean delivery pain relief in systemic administration of opioids, while the administration of small dose of intrathecal opioid during spinal anesthesia can be a possible alternative. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of buprenorphine on cesarean section prescribed intrathecally. Methods: This double blind randomized clinical trial study was conducted in patients for cesarean section under spinal anesthesia. The patients were randomly divided into case and control groups. Case group (208 patients) received 65-70 mg of 5% lidocaine plus 0.2 ml of buprenorphine while the same amount of 5% lidocaine diluted with 0.2 ml of normal saline was given to 234 cases in the control group. Hemodynamic changes and neonatal APGAR scores (Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, Respiration) were recorded. Pain score was recorded according to the visual analog scale. This study was registered in the Iranian Registry of clinical Trials; IRCT2013022112552N1. Results: The mean age of case and control groups was 24.4±5.38 and 26.84±5.42 years, respectively. Systolic blood pressure was not significantly different until the 45th minute but diastolic blood pressure showed a significant difference at the 15th and the 60th minutes (P<0.001). Heart rate changes were significantly different between cases and controls at the initial 5th, 15th and after 60th minutes (P<0.001). Pain-free period was significantly different between two groups (1.25 h versus 18.73 h) (P<0.001). Conclusion: The results show that prescription of intratechal buprenorphine prolongs the duration of analgesia without any significant considerable side effects

    Yang-Baxter Deformations Beyond Coset Spaces (a slick way to do TsT)

    Yang-Baxter string sigma-models provide a systematic way to deform coset geometries, such as AdSp×SpAdS_p \times S^p, while retaining the σ\sigma-model integrability. It has been shown that the Yang-Baxter deformation in target space is simply an open-closed string map that can be defined for any geometry, not just coset spaces. Given a geometry with an isometry group and a bivector that is assumed to be a linear combination of antisymmetric products of Killing vectors, we show the equations of motion of (generalized) supergravity reduce to the Classical Yang-Baxter Equation associated with the isometry group, proving the statement made in [1]. These results bring us closer to the proof of the "YB solution generating technique" for (generalized) supergravity advertised in [1] and in particular provide an economical way to perform TsT transformations.Comment: 33 pages; v2 typos fixed and reference added; v3 further improvements in text, matches published version; v4 typo in expression for B (4.9) correcte

    Suitable Na2O-SiO2, BaO-SiO2 Based Coatings for Stainless Steels

    Two frites with 40 wt.%SiO2-20 wt.%B2O3-17 wt.%Na2O (G1) and 42wt.%SiO2-24wt.%BaO-18 wt.%CoO (G2) compositions were prepared and applied on stainless steel by the slurry method. The samples were heated at 950ºC (G2) and 860ºC (G1). The XRD results revealed the sodium silicate and barium silicate phases as well as almost 770 HV, 543 HV microhardness in G1 and G2 coats respectively. The thermal expansion coefficients were α=10.9×10-6/K(G1) and α=13.31×10-6/K (G2) respectively. According to EDS results the alkaline earth ions (and CoO) migration into the glass- steel interface was occurred in both coats. The dry sliding friction and wear behavior were investigated using a 4mm diameter AISI52100 steel pin on disk geometry under 5,10 and 18 N loads. The average wear rate were w.r: 32 ×10-14(m3/N.m) and w.r:5×10-14(m3/N.m) in G1 and G2 coats. Then two frites were mixed and heat treated at 800ºC with high heating and cooling rate. The resulted composite (G1-G2) shows almost the average wear rate 4×10-14(m3/N.m), while the coefficient friction of G1-G2 composite was not improved significantly

    Nearing Extremal Intersecting Giants and New Decoupled Sectors in N = 4 SYM

    We study near-horizon limits of near-extremal charged black hole solutions to five-dimensional U(1)3U(1)^3 gauged supergravity carrying two charges, extending the recent work of Balasubramanian et.al. We show that there are two near-horizon decoupling limits for the near-extremal black holes, one corresponding to the near-BPS case and the other for the far from BPS case. Both of these limits are only defined on the 10d IIB uplift of the 5d black holes, resulting in a decoupled geometry with a six-dimensional part (conformal to) a rotating BTZ X S3S^3. We study various aspects of these decoupling limits both from the gravity side and the dual field theory side. For the latter we argue that there should be two different, but equivalent, dual gauge theory descriptions, one in terms of the 2d CFT's dual to the rotating BTZ and the other as certain large R-charge sectors of d=4,N =4 U(N) SYM theory. We discuss new BMN-type sectors of the N=4 SYM in the NN\to\infty limit in which the engineering dimensions scale as N3/2N^{3/2} (for the near-BPS case) and as N2N^2 (for the far from BPS case).Comment: 44 pages, references added, minor change
