Boundary Asymptotic Analysis for an Incompressible Viscous Flow: Navier Wall Laws
We consider a new way of establishing Navier wall laws. Considering a bounded
domain of R N , N=2,3, surrounded by a thin layer ,
along a part 2 of its boundary , we consider a
Navier-Stokes flow in with
Reynolds' number of order 1/ in . Using
-convergence arguments, we describe the asymptotic behaviour of the
solution of this problem and get a general Navier law involving a matrix of
Borel measures having the same support contained in the interface 2. We
then consider two special cases where we characterize this matrix of measures.
As a further application, we consider an optimal control problem within this
context
Effect of polarized gluon distribution on spin asymmetries for neutral and charged pion production
A longitudinal double spin asymmetry for \pi^0 production has been measured
by the PHENIX collaboration. The asymmetry is sensitive to the polarized gluon
distribution and is indicated to be positive by theoretical predictions. We
study a correlation between behavior of the asymmetry and polarized gluon

All-optical delay line using semiconductor cavity solitons
An all-optical delay line based on the lateral drift of cavity solitons in semiconductor microresonators is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The functionalities of the device proposed as well as its performance is analyzed and compared with recent alternative methods based on the decrease of group velocity in the vicinity of resonances. We show that the current limitations can be overcome using broader devices with tailored material responses
A branch-point approximant for the equation of state of hard spheres
Using the first seven known virial coefficients and forcing it to possess two
branch-point singularities, a new equation of state for the hard-sphere fluid
is proposed. This equation of state predicts accurate values of the higher
virial coefficients, a radius of convergence smaller than the close-packing
value, and it is as accurate as the rescaled virial expansion and better than
the Pad\'e [3/3] equations of state. Consequences regarding the convergence
properties of the virial series and the use of similar equations of state for

Evaluation of patients treated with natalizumab for progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
Background: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) was reported to have developed in three patients treated with natalizumab. We conducted an evaluation to determine whether PML had developed in any other treated patients.
Methods: We invited patients who had participated in clinical trials in which they received recent or long-term treatment with natalizumab for multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, or rheumatoid arthritis to participate. The clinical history, physical examination, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and testing of cerebrospinal fluid for JC virus DNA were used by an expert panel to evaluate patients for PML. We estimated the risk of PML in patients who completed at least a clinical examination for PML or had an MRI.
Results: Of 3417 patients who had recently received natalizumab while participating in clinical trials, 3116 (91 percent) who were exposed to a mean of 17.9 monthly doses underwent evaluation for PML. Of these, 44 patients were referred to the expert panel because of clinical findings of possible PML, abnormalities on MRI, or a high plasma viral load of JC virus. No patient had detectable JC virus DNA in the cerebrospinal fluid. PML was ruled out in 43 of the 44 patients, but it could not be ruled out in one patient who had multiple sclerosis and progression of neurologic disease because data on cerebrospinal fluid testing and follow-up MRI were not available. Only the three previously reported cases of PML were confirmed (1.0 per 1000 treated patients; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.2 to 2.8 per 1000).
Conclusions: A detailed review of possible cases of PML in patients exposed to natalizumab found no new cases and suggested a risk of PML of roughly 1 in 1000 patients treated with natalizumab for a mean of 17.9 months. The risk associated with longer treatment is not known
Psychopathological Course Typology in Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders: A Heuristic Approach in a Sample of 100 Patients
Background: Despite several previous attempts at subtyping schizophrenia, a typology that reflects neurobiological knowledge and reliably predicts course and outcome is lacking. We applied the system-specific concept of the Bern Psychopathology Scale (BPS) to generate a course typology based on three domains: language, affectivity, and motor behaviour. Sampling and Methods: A cohort of 100 patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorders according to DSM-IV criteria underwent psychopathological assessment, and all their available medical records were retrospectively analysed on the basis of the BPS. Results: Overall, 39% of the patients showed dominant abnormalities in only one domain, 37% in two domains, and 24% in all three domains. The motor domain was affected in the majority of patients (76%), followed by affectivity (63%) and language (46%). Eighty-six percent of patients showed a bipolar course pattern in at least one domain. Conclusions: In a retrospective analysis of 100 patient records we described system-specific course patterns of schizophrenia by using a neurobiologically informed psychopathological assessment. The results showed a surprisingly high proportion of bipolar courses and a pattern of pure and mixed subtypes, which speaks for an overlap of domains with regards to psychopathological symptoms. A limitation of this heuristic and retrospective approach is that it was largely based on clinical judgement. Prospective studies with more rigorous threshold definitions are needed to clarify the neurobiological and clinical implications of the proposed reorganization of psychotic disorders. (C) 2016 S. Discovery of an Optical Jet in the BL Lac Object 3C 371
We have detected an optical jet in the BL Lac object 3C 371 that coincides
with the radio jet in this object in the central few kpc. The most notable
feature is a bright optical knot 3 arcsec (4 kpc) from the nucleus that occurs
at the location where the jet apparently changes its direction by ~30 degrees.
The radio, near-infrared and optical observations of this knot are consistent
with a single power-law spectrum with a radio-optical spectral index alpha =
-0.81. One possible scenario for the observed turn is that the jet is
interacting with the material in the bridge connecting 3C 371 to nearby
galaxies and the pressure gradient is deflecting the jet significantly.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX, 4 figures (1 eps, 3 gifs), accepted for publication

Superconductivity mediated by a soft phonon mode: specific heat, resistivity, thermal expansion and magnetization of YB6
The superconductor YB6 has the second highest critical temperature Tc among
the boride family MBn. We report measurements of the specific heat,
resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and thermal expansion from 2 to 300 K,
using a single crystal with Tc = 7.2 K. The superconducting gap is
characteristic of medium-strong coupling. The specific heat, resistivity and
expansivity curves are deconvolved to yield approximations of the phonon
density of states, the spectral electron-phonon scattering function and the
phonon density of states weighted by the frequency-dependent Grueneisen
parameter respectively. Lattice vibrations extend to high frequencies >100 meV,
but a dominant Einstein-like mode at ~8 meV, associated with the vibrations of
yttrium ions in oversized boron cages, appears to provide most of the
superconducting coupling and gives rise to an unusual temperature behavior of
several observable quantities. A surface critical field Hc3 is also observed.Comment: 29 pages, 5 tables, 17 figures. Accepted for publication in Phys.

On the relation between virial coefficients and the close-packing of hard disks and hard spheres
The question of whether the known virial coefficients are enough to determine
the packing fraction at which the fluid equation of state of a
hard-sphere fluid diverges is addressed. It is found that the information
derived from the direct Pad\'e approximants to the compressibility factor
constructed with the virial coefficients is inconclusive. An alternative
approach is proposed which makes use of the same virial coefficients and of the
equation of state in a form where the packing fraction is explicitly given as a
function of the pressure. The results of this approach both for hard-disk and
hard-sphere fluids, which can straightforwardly accommodate higher virial
coefficients when available, lends support to the conjecture that
is equal to the maximum packing fraction corresponding to an ordered
