Galanin and galanin receptor expression in neuroblastic tumours: correlation with their differentiation status

Neuroblastoma and its benign differentiated counterpart, ganglioneuroma, are paediatric neuroblastic tumours arising in the sympathetic nervous system. Their broad spectrum of clinical virulence is mainly related to heterogeneous biologic background and tumour differentiation. Neuroblastic tumours synthesize various neuropeptides acting as neuromodulators. Previous studies suggested that galanin plays a role in sympathetic tissue where it could be involved in differentiation and development. We investigated the expression and distribution of galanin and its three known receptors (Gal-R1, Gal-R2, Gal-R3) in 19 samples of neuroblastic tumours tissue by immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and fluorescent-ligand binding. This study provides clear evidence for galanin and galanin receptor expression in human neuroblastic tumours. The messengers coding for galanin, Gal-R1 and -R3 were highly expressed in neuroblastoma and their amount dramatically decreased in ganglioneuroma. In contrast, Gal-R2 levels remained unchanged. Double labelling studies showed that galanin was mainly co-expressed with its receptors whatever the differentiation stage. In neuroblastic tumours, galanin might promote cell-survival or counteract neuronal differentiation through the different signalling pathways mediated by galanin receptors. Finally, our results suggest that galanin influences neuroblastoma growth and development as an autocrine/paracrine modulator. These findings suggest potential critical implications for galanin in neuroblastic tumours development

Introduction: Human ecology in the Himalaya

Knowledge of human adaptation in the Himalayas has developed more slowly than that for other world mountain systems. At the same time, the opening of the region to research has focused attention toward description in a “natural history” mode until quite recently. Where these studies have addressed issues of adaptation they have tended to do so more as a heuristic tool rather than in terms of contributing to the development of adaptive perspectives from a uniquely Himalayan vantage point. Opérations locales agri-environnement en montagne. Analyse des conditions d'élaboration et de suivi à partir d'entretiens auprès d'experts locaux

In order to contribute to the evaluation of the mountain policies some talks with local experts have been realized, to analyse the development and implementation conditions of the local agri-environmental schemes in the French mountains. Two to three experts have been consulted for every local operation. The talks guide includes the following subjects : elaboration of the operation and problematics, the environmental stakes, preliminary inventory of the local conditions before the agri-environmental schemes, recommanded farm practices, techno-economic estimate of the overcosts for the farmers which sign an agri-environmental contract, animation and evaluation modalities, difficulties after the application. About these different subjects this study specifies the characteristics and principal teachings, which come from the analysis of 39 mountain agri-environmental local operations (including ''Article 19'' operations). / Afin de contribuer à l'évaluation de la politique montagne, des entretiens auprès d'experts locaux ont été effectués pour apprécier les conditions d'élaboration et de déroulement des opérations locales agri-environnement en montagne. En moyenne, deux à trois experts locaux ont été consultés pour chaque opération sur la base d'un guide d'entretien, abordant notamment les points suivants : le montage et la problématique de l'opération, la définition des enjeux environnementaux et la réalisation d'un état des lieux préalable à l'élaboration du dossier de l'opération agri-environnement, les pratiques préconisées et l'estimation des surcoûts pour les exploitations agricoles signataires d'un contrat agri-environnemental, les modalités d'animation et d'évaluation de l'opération et les difficultés éventuelles rencontrées dans la mise en oeuvre sur le terrain. Sur ces différents points, cette étude précise les caractéristiques et les principaux enseignements qui peuvent être dégagés à partir de l'analyse de 39 opérations locales agri-environnement situées en montagne et sélectionnées parmi les opérations élaborées avant 1995 (en y incluant les premières opérations intitulées " Article 19 ")

Analyse économique des systèmes de production agricole en montagne (Résultats RICA - année 1992)

Using the 1992 FADN results, this report brings some elements of answer to the following questions, before the application of the Common Agricultural Policy reform: what are the economic results of the main mountain production systems ? What is the weight of subsidies, especially ISM, in the income of mountain farms ? Analyses are presented by sub-samples as a function of the farming system orientation (on the basis of the OTEX technical and economic orientation criterion), of the farm size and by inter-massif comparison. Comparative studies with plain samples which use similar systems have also been performed. / A partir des résultats 1992 du R.I.C.A., ce rapport apporte des éléments de réponse aux questions suivantes, avant que s'applique la réforme de la Politique Agricole Commune : quels sont les résultats économiques dégagés par les principaux systèmes de production en montagne ? Quel est le poids des subventions, et en particulier de l'ISM, dans le revenu des exploitations de montagne ? Les analyses sont présentées par sous-échantillons en fonction de l'orientation du système d'élevage (sur la base du critère orientation technico-économique OTEX), de la taille des élevages et par comparaison inter-massifs. Des analyses comparatives avec des échantillons de plaine pratiquant des systèmes analogues sont également effectuées

This project is a more thorough survey and a specific valorization of a European research program ended in 1983: a finer analysis of the main adaptation ways of a sample of 307 couples of farmers between 1987 and 1993. It is thus possible to provide individual trajectories based on a representative sample as compared to available statistical sources. / Ce travail constitue un approfondissement et une valorisation spécifique d'un programme de recherches européen achevé en 1993 : analyse plus fine des principales voies d'adaptation suivies par un échantillon de 307 ménages agricoles, enquêtés en 1987 et 1991. Il est ainsi possible de disposer d'un suivi de trajectoires individuelles sur un échantillon, constitué avec le souci de représentativité par rapport aux sources statistiques disponibles

La pluriactivité des chefs d'exploitation agricole : analyse du recensement général de l'agriculture (1988)

The goal of this study is to characterize the pluriactivity of farm managers based on results of the last agricultural census (1988). Pluridisciplinar farm managers are compared to " exclusive " farm managers. The analysis is conducted at a national scale but also as a function of the different administrative areas. Pluriactivity is analyzed as a function of the nature of the external activities and also as a function of the relations with the socio-structural characteristics of the farms. / L'objectif de cette étude est de caractériser la pluriactivité des chefs d'exploitation agricole à partir des résultats du dernier recensement agricole (1988). Les chefs d'exploitation pluriactifs sont comparés à la catégorie des chefs d'exploitation à titre "exclusif agricole". L'analyse est conduite au niveau national, mais aussi en fonction du découpage en zones administratives. La pluriactivité est analysée en fonction de la nature des activités extérieures et en fonction des relations avec les caractéristiques socio-structuelles des exploitations agricoles

Diversité de l'agriculture du massif Vosgien : les combinaisons professionnelles des ménages agricoles

This report is a survey of the different ways to practice an agricultural activity and the way this diversity is taken into account by agricultural institutions. The results show the extreme plurality of French agriculture. The survey included not only the massif but also the Thillot and Munster valleys. / Ce rapport étudie les différentes manières d'exercer l'activité agricole et la manière dont la diversité de situations est prise en compte par les organismes agricoles. Les résultats de ce travail illustrent l'extrême pluralité de l'agriculture. Les investigations ont porté à la fois sur l'ensemble du massif et à niveau plus fin, sur les vallées du Thillot et de Munster
