Types of Grammatical Errors in the Essays Written by Fourth-semester Students of English Department, Petra Christian University
This study deals with errors which include tenses (verb forms), number agreement, and active-passive voice, word order, and word formation on students' essays. The purpose of this study is to find out the types of errors committed by the students in Written 4 class based on five categories which are addition, omission, misformation, misordering and blends. The writer found that the most frequent error is misformation, especially the misformation of verbs and nouns. In conclusion, the students committed misformation, misordering, addition, omission, and blends errors; and misformation is the most commonly committed error which is found in their essays
Inviscid helical magnetorotational instability in cylindrical Taylor-Couette flow
This paper presents the analysis of axisymmetric helical magnetorotational
instability (HMRI) in the inviscid limit, which is relevant for astrophysical
conditions. The inductionless approximation defined by zero magnetic Prandtl
number is adopted to distinguish the HMRI from the standard MRI in the
cylindrical Taylor-Couette flow subject to a helical magnetic field. Using a
Chebyshev collocation method convective and absolute instability thresholds are
computed in terms of the Elsasser number for a fixed ratio of inner and outer
radii \lambda=2 and various ratios of rotation rates and helicities of the
magnetic field. It is found that the extension of self-sustained HMRI modes
beyond the Rayleigh limit does not reach the astrophysically relevant Keplerian
rotation profile not only in the narrow- but also in the finite-gap
approximation. The Keppler limit can be attained only by the convective HMRI
mode provided that the boundaries are perfectly conducting. However, this mode
requires not only a permanent external excitation to be observable but also has
a long axial wave length, which is not compatible with limited thickness of
astrophysical accretion disks.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, published version with a few typos correcte
The white dwarf in dwarf nova SDSS J080434.20+510349.2: Entering the instability strip?
SDSS J080434.20+510349.2 is the WZ type binary that displayed rare outburst
in 2006 (Pavlenko et al., 2007). During the long-lasting tail of the late stage
of the outburst binary shown the two-humped or four-humped profile of the
orbital light modulation. The amplitude of orbital light curve decreased while
the mean brightness decreased, more over that occurred 10 times faster
during the fast outburst decline in respect to the late quiet state of slow
outburst fading. There were no white dwarf pulsations detected neither 1 - 1.5
months prior to the outburst nor in 1.5 - 2 months after the 2006 outburst in
this system. However the strong non-radial pulsations with period 12.6 minutes
and mean amplitude of 0.05^m were first detected in V band with 2.6-m Shajn
mirror telescope of the Crimean astrophysical observatory in ~ 8 months after
the outburst. The evolution of pulsations over two years in 2006 - 2008 is
considered. It is supposed that pulsations first appeared when the cooling
white dwarf (after the outburst) entered the instability strip although the
possibility of temporary lack of pulsations at some occasions also could not be
excluded.Comment: Submitted to Proceedings of 16th European White Dwarf Workshop

This is What it Means to be a DACA Recipient
Since 2012, over 800,000 DREAMers, like ourselves, have been given the legal right to work, apply for a driver’s license, and, most importantly, live without the fear of deportation. We complete background checks and pay $495 in fees every two years to maintain our DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) status. [excerpt
Light and stable triplet bipolarons on square and triangular lattices
We compute the properties of singlet and triplet bipolarons on
two-dimensional lattices using the continuous time quantum Monte Carlo
algorithm. Properties of the bipolaron including the total energy, inverse
mass, bipolaron radius and number of phonons associated with the bipolaron
demonstrate the qualitative difference between models of electron phonon
interaction with long-range interaction (screened Fr\"ohlich) and those with
purely local (Holstein) interaction. A major result of our survey of the
parameter space is the existence of extra-light hybrid singlet bipolarons
consisting of an on-site and an off-site component on both square and
triangular lattices. We also compute triplet properties of the bipolarons and
the pair dispersion. For pair momenta on the edge of the Brillouin zone of the
triangular lattice, we find that triplet states are more stable than singlets
BANKS CONSOLIDATION IN NIGERIA: A SYNERGISTIC HARVEST
In order to strengthen the competitive and operational capabilities of banks in Nigeria with a view
towards returning global and public confidence to the Nigerian banking sector and the economy
in general, the Central Bank of Nigeria instituted a banking reform which saw most of the then
existing 89 banks merging with each other. It was earlier speculated in some financial analysis
quarters that the exercise might turn out to be one of those overblown hypes of an ailing
economy. This, however, has turned out to be the opposite as most post-merger results tend to
highlight that financial synergies exist. This paper tries to evaluate the authenticity of this
assertion. To do this, pre-merger and post merger financial statements of 4 consolidated banks
were obtained, adjusted, carefully analyzed and compared. The result revealed that all the four
merger groups produced in addition to operational and relational synergy, financial gains far more
than the 2+2=5 synergistic effects. The validating two-way ANOVA test also revealed that
variations in shareholders funds can significantly affect the value of total assets of a bank
