This chapter describes a case study examining the potential of a community-driven Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform in a rural and depopulating area in the Netherlands. The aim of the 5-year project is to examine if a MaaS platform can be an effective and efficient solution to improve accessibility and liveability of rural areas. The potential for a MaaS is examined by addressing the current mobility patterns and mobility and accessibility barriers. We use a mixed method approach using a combination of small data (primary data) and big data (secondary data)

Influences of urban characteristics on cycling: Experiences of four cities

Cycling level was investigated for four cities with similar land area namely, Beijing, Berlin, Canberra and Singapore. Four characteristics namely, urban structure, transport policy, public transport service and cycling infrastructure, as affecting cycling activities in urban areas were compared. A cycling line was devised and used to position and compare each city by the stages of cycling level. Cycling level in Berlin is comparatively high and remains on an increasing trend which is at the promising stage. Recommendations are given for the other three cities (Beijing, Canberra and Singapore) that could improve cycling level

Prevention of alcohol problems in Dutch youth - Missed opportunities and ew developments

This article outlines the current Dutch approach to alcohol prevention in this target group. It is argued that well-enforced evidence-based control measures are lacking despite renewed political interest in them. Politicians often favor alcohol education, but to increase the effectiveness of alcohol prevention, a combined approach of policy measures, enforcement, and education is needed. Translation of education and policy-based measures is discussed
