    [ES] El taller sobre Tecnologías Disruptivas de la Información y la Comunicación para la Innovación y la Transformación Digital, organizado en el ámbito del proyecto DISRUPTIVE (disruptive.usal.es) y celebrado el 12 de septiembre de 2022 en Valladolid, tiene como objetivo debatir sobre los problemas, retos y beneficios del uso de tecnologías digitales disruptivas, a saber, Internet de las Cosas, Big data, computación en la nube, sistemas multiagente, aprendizaje automático, realidad virtual y aumentada y robótica colaborativa, para apoyar la transformación digital en curso en la sociedad. El programa del taller incluyó 6 papers técnicos aceptados, 2 charlas de invitados y una sesión de networking. Este volumen contiene 6 de las ponencias presentadas en el taller sobre Tecnologías Disruptivas de la Información y la Comunicación para la Innovación y la Transformación Digital. Este taller fue organizado por ICE (Instituto para la Competitividad Empresarial de Castilla y León), UVa (Universidad de Valladolid) y apoyado principalmente por el Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER) a través del Programa Interreg España-Portugal V-A (POCTEP) bajo la subvención 0677_DISRUPTIVE_2_E (Dinamización de los Digital Innovation Hubs dentro de la región PocTep para el impulso de las TIC disruptivas y de última generación a través de la cooperación en la región transfronteriza).[EN] The workshop on Disruptive Information and Communication Technologies for Innovation and Digital transformation, organized under the scope of the DISRUPTIVE project (disruptive.usal.es) and held on September 12, 2022 in Valladolid, aims to discuss problems, challenges and benefits of using disruptive digital technologies, namely Internet of Things, Big data, cloud computing, multi-agent systems, machine learning, virtual and augmented reality, and collaborative robotics, to support the on-going digital transformation in society. The main topics included: Intelligent Manufacturing Systems; Industry 4.0 and digital transformation; Internet of Things; Cyber-security; Collaborative and intelligent robotics; Multi-Agent Systems; Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems; Virtualization and digital twins; Predictive maintenance; Virtual and augmented reality, Big Data and advanced data analytics; Edge and cloud Computing; Digital Transformation. The workshop program included 6 accepted technical papers, 2 invited talks and a networking session.     Revealing the Impact of Dynamic Traffic on NFV Networks Planned Under Static Assumptions

    Producción Científica5G/6G networks offer high-capacity, low-latency and high-speed communications to new services associated with vertical industries like smart cities, automotive and energy sectors. To achieve this objective, new networking and computing paradigms such as Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) are required to bring flexibility and adaptability to networks, while optical networks are envisioned to build the backhaul of 5G/6G networks thanks to their high capacity. Current studies on NFV-5G network planning with MEC resources follow either the online trend or the offline trend. In the online trend, resource allocation to service connection requests is determined upon request arrival based on the available resources. Conversely, in the offline trend, network planning is conducted assuming that the expected traffic (or the full set of service requests) is known in advance. However, to the best of our knowledge, previous works have not assessed the performance of these static offline network plannings when operating under dynamic traffic. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a previously proposed static planning algorithm for NFV-5G networks under dynamic traffic conditions and analyze the impact of dynamic traffic on the request blocking ratio. Moreover, we also examine the performance of the static planning for each individual service type in a dynamic network scenario with three different available services. The simulation results show that overdimensioning is necessary when planning NFV-5G networks statically, and that the overdimensioning should consider different criteria based on the network expected performance objectives.Consejería de Educación de la Junta de Castilla y León y FEDER (Ref.     [ES] El intercambio de ideas entre científicos y técnicos, tanto del ámbito académico como empresarial, es fundamental para facilitar el desarrollo de sistemas que puedan satisfacer las demandas de la sociedad actual. La transferencia de tecnología en este campo sigue siendo un reto y, por ello, este tipo de aportaciones se consideran de forma destacada en esta recopilación. Este libro trae debates y publicaciones sobre el desarrollo de técnicas innovadoras de problemas complejos de IoT. El programa técnico se centra tanto en la alta calidad como en la diversidad, con contribuciones en áreas de investigación bien establecidas y en evolución. Específicamente, 10 capítulos fueron presentados a este libro. Los editores alentaron y agradecieron particularmente las contribuciones sobre IA y computación distribuida en aplicaciones de IoT. Los editores agradecen especialmente el apoyo financiero del proyecto “Virtual-Ledgers-Tecnologías DLT/Blockchain y Cripto-IOT sobre organizaciones virtuales de agentes ligeros y su aplicación en la eficiencia en el transporte de última milla”, ID SA267P18, financiado por Junta de Castilla y León y fondos FEDER.[EN] The exchange of ideas between scientists and technicians, from both academic and business areas, is essential in order to ease the development of systems which can meet the demands of today’s society. Technology transfer in this field is still a challenge and, for that reason, this type of contributions are notably considered in this compilation. This book brings in discussions and publications concerning the development of innovative techniques of IoT complex problems. The technical program focuses both on high quality and diversity, with contributions in well-established and evolving areas of research. Specifically, 10 chapters were submitted to this book. The editors particularly encouraged and welcomed contributions on AI and distributed computing in IoT applications.     Next Generation Flexible and Cognitive Heterogeneous Optical Networks:Supporting the Evolution to the Future Internet

    Optical networking is the cornerstone of the Future Internet as it provides the physical infrastructure of the core backbone networks. Recent developments have enabled much better quality of service/experience for the end users, enabled through the much higher capacities that can be supported. Furthermore, optical networking developments facilitate the reduction of complexity of operations at the IP layer and therefore reduce the latency of the connections and the expenditures to deploy and operate the networks. New research directions in optical networking promise to further advance the capabilities of the Future Internet. In this book chapter, we highlight the latest activities of the optical networking community and in particular what has been the focus of EU funded research. The concepts of flexible and cognitive optical networks are introduced and their key expected benefits are highlighted. The overall framework envisioned for the future cognitive flexible optical networks are introduced and recent developments are presented

    Deep Reinforcement Learning Applied to Computation Offloading of Vehicular Applications:A Comparison

    Producción CientíficaAn observable trend in recent years is the increasing demand for more complex services designed to be used with portable or automotive embedded devices. The problem is that these devices may lack the computational resources necessary to comply with service requirements. To solve it, cloud and edge computing, and in particular, the recent multi-access edge computing (MEC) paradigm, have been proposed. By offloading the processing of computational tasks from devices or vehicles to an external network, a larger amount of computational resources, placed in different locations, becomes accessible. However, this in turn creates the issue of deciding where each task should be executed. In this paper, we model the problem of computation offloading of vehicular applications to solve it using deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and evaluate the performance of different DRL algorithms and heuristics, showing the advantages of the former methods.
