A Life History Study of Caecilius Aurantiacus (Hagen) (Psocoptera: Caeciliidae)

    Get PDF
Caecilius aurantiacus is a common, widely distributed psocid in well established forested areas of North America. Published information on this species is fragmentary and limited primarily to taxonomy. This paper is a description of the habits and biology of this small, little-known, but common insect. Of the 212 named species in the genus Caecilius (Smithers, 1967), the bionomics of only Caecilius manteri have been published

Calculation of Cu/Ta interface electron transmission and effect on conductivity in nanoscale interconnect technology

    Get PDF
Resistivity augmentation in nanoscale metal interconnects is a performance limiting factor in integrated circuits. Here we present calculations of electron scattering and transmission at the interface between Cu interconnects and their barrier layers, in this case Ta. We also present a semiclassical model to predict the technological impact of this scattering and find that a barrier layer can significantly decrease conductivity, consistent with previously published measurements.Comment: To appear in Appl. Phys. Lett., Nov. 2009. Replaced with version accepted for publication, clarifies discussion of semiclassical model. Conclusions unchange

Charge carrier induced lattice strain and stress effects on As activation in Si

We studied lattice expansion coefficient due to As using density functional theory with particular attention to separating the impact of electrons and ions. Based on As deactivation mechanism under equilibrium conditions, the effect of stress on As activation is predicted. We find that biaxial stress results in minimal impact on As activation, which is consistent with experimental observations by Sugii et al. [J. Appl. Phys. 96, 261 (2004)] and Bennett et al.[J. Vac. Sci. Tech. B 26, 391 (2008)]

State Taxation—Privately Held Leaseholds in Publicly Owned Land—Ch. 187, [1973] Wash. Laws 1st Ex. Sess.

In April 1973 the Washington State Legislature enacted the Leasehold Exemption Act, providing special tax treatment for certain leasehold interests in publicly owned, tax-exempt land. This measure was a response to the 1970 Washington Supreme Court decision which held that, in valuing these leasehold interests for ad valorem property tax purposes, the same standards of assessment were to be utilized as were used for valuing taxable property in general. The Legislature chose to apply the court\u27s 1970 decision prospectively only. In so doing, it has placed serious strains on the assessment process. This note will discuss these administrative problems, as well as constitutional and equitable concerns raised by the Act

Highly parallelizable electronic transport calculations in periodic Rhodium and Copper nanostructures

We extend the highly-parallelizable open-source electronic transport code TRANSEC to perform real-space atomic-scale electronic transport calculations with periodic boundary conditions in the lateral dimensions. We demonstrate the use of TRANSEC in periodic Cu and Rh bulk structures and in large periodic Rh point contacts, in preparation to perform calculations of reflection probability across Rh grain boundaries

Student managed investment fund: Preparing future Oklahoma State University finance professionals

    Get PDF
This study is intended to determine whether or not the Student Managed Investment Fund at Oklahoma State University properly prepares its students for a career in the financial industry. As part of my research, I have gathered data from former SMIF students that are now participating in various financial career paths. I asked each former student a series of questions that would help to determine the effectiveness of the course. The questions that were given covered topics such as improvement in business related skills, preparation for the financial industry, and testimonies regarding the effectiveness of the class. The hypothesis of this study was that, on average, students that participated in the SMIF course were positively impacted and better prepared for their current occupation in finance. The statistically significant results provided by the survey supported this hypothesis

Oxyspirura petrowi infection leads to pathological consequences in Northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus)

    Get PDF
AbstractDebilitating ocular diseases are often reported in avian species. By and large, helminth parasites have been overlooked in avian diseases and regarded as inconsequential. The decline of Northern bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus) in the Rolling Plains ecoregion of Texas has prompted an investigation of the factors influencing their disappearance. Infection by the eyeworm (Oxyspirura petrowi) has been documented in many avian species; however, the effect it has on its host is not well understood. Heavy eyeworm infection has been documented in Northern bobwhites throughout this ecoregion, leading to eye pathology in this host species. The present study further documents and supports the pathological changes associated with O. petrowi in bobwhites
