Nuclear magnetic resonance of paramagnetic metalloporphyrins
The present article reviews and discusses proton magnetic resonance studies on metalloporphyrins which provide good models for heme proteins in their physical and chemical properties. Emphasis is given on the discussion of the 1HNMR work done in our laboratory
Electronic structure of spin-mixed iron(III) porphyrins: a proton magnetic resonance study
The proton magnetic resonance studies on the perchlorato iron(III) porphyrins in solution have been described. The isotropic proton shifts in these complexes show anomalous temperature dependence, consistent with its unusual properties in solid state. The NMR data have been analysed on the basis of a crystal field theory which includes lower asymmetric field and spin-orbit interaction. The analysis brings out that the ground state of the ferric ion in these porphyrin complexes exhibits the novel spin-mixed behaviour with spin-mixing between S = 3/2 and S = 5/2. The ground state is predominantly a spin quartet with the spin sextet being a very close lying excited state. Such a spin situation and spin-mixing have been speculated for the ferric ion in some ferricytochromec'. The present paper also highlights that the isotropic proton shift is very sensitive to the electronic structure of the metal ion and hence can be used to determine the electronic structure of the metal ion in heme systems in solution
Limits on WWgamma and WWZ Couplings from W Boson Pair Production
The results of a search for W boson pair production in pbar-p collisions at
sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV with subsequent decay to emu, ee, and mumu channels are
presented. Five candidate events are observed with an expected background of
3.1+-0.4 events for an integrated luminosity of approximately 97 pb^{-1}.
Limits on the anomalous couplings are obtained from a maximum likelihood fit of
the E_T spectra of the leptons in the candidate events. Assuming identical
WWgamma and WWZ couplings, the 95 % C.L. limits are -0.62<Delta_kappa<0.77
(lambda = 0) and -0.53<lambda<0.56 (Delta_kappa = 0) for a form factor scale
Lambda = 1.5 TeV.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review
A Quasi-Model-Independent Search for New Physics at Large Transverse Momentum
We apply a quasi-model-independent strategy ("Sleuth") to search for new high
p_T physics in approximately 100 pb^-1 of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
collected by the DZero experiment during 1992-1996 at the Fermilab Tevatron.
Over thirty-two e mu X, W+jets-like, Z+jets-like, and 3(lepton/photon)X
exclusive final states are systematically analyzed for hints of physics beyond
the standard model. Simultaneous sensitivity to a variety of models predicting
new phenomena at the electroweak scale is demonstrated by testing the method on
a particular signature in each set of final states. No evidence of new high p_T
physics is observed in the course of this search, and we find that 89% of an
ensemble of hypothetical similar experimental runs would have produced a final
state with a candidate signal more interesting than the most interesting
observed in these data.Comment: 28 pages, 17 figures. Submitted to Physical Review
Probing BFKL Dynamics in the Dijet Cross Section at Large Rapidity Intervals in ppbar Collisions at sqrt{s}=1800 and 630 GeV
Inclusive dijet production at large pseudorapidity intervals (delta_eta)
between the two jets has been suggested as a regime for observing BFKL
dynamics. We have measured the dijet cross section for large delta_eta in ppbar
collisions at sqrt{s}=1800 and 630 GeV using the DO detector. The partonic
cross section increases strongly with the size of delta_eta. The observed
growth is even stronger than expected on the basis of BFKL resummation in the
leading logarithmic approximation. The growth of the partonic cross section can
be accommodated with an effective BFKL intercept of
a_{BFKL}(20GeV)=1.65+/-0.07.Comment: Published in Physical Review Letter
A measurement of the W boson mass using large rapidity electrons
We present a measurement of the W boson mass using data collected by the D0
experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during 1994--1995. We identify W bosons by
their decays to e-nu final states where the electron is detected in a forward
calorimeter. We extract the W boson mass, Mw, by fitting the transverse mass
and transverse electron and neutrino momentum spectra from a sample of 11,089 W
-> e nu decay candidates. We use a sample of 1,687 dielectron events, mostly
due to Z -> ee decays, to constrain our model of the detector response. Using
the forward calorimeter data, we measure Mw = 80.691 +- 0.227 GeV. Combining
the forward calorimeter measurements with our previously published central
calorimeter results, we obtain Mw = 80.482 +- 0.091 GeV
Search for Squarks and Gluinos in Events Containing Jets and a Large Imbalance in Transverse Energy
Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79 pb-1, D0 has
searched for events containing multiple jets and large missing transverse
energy in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron
collider. Observing no significant excess beyond what is expected from the
standard model, we set limits on the masses of squarks and gluinos and on the
model parameters m_0 and m_1/2, in the framework of the minimal low-energy
supergravity models of supersymmetry. For tan(beta) = 2 and A_0 = 0, with mu <
0, we exclude all models with m_squark < 250 GeV/c^2. For models with equal
squark and gluino masses, we exclude m < 260 GeV/c^2.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, Submitted to PRL, Fixed typo on page bottom of

Search for First Generation Scalar Leptoquark Pairs in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV
We have searched for first generation scalar leptoquark (LQ) pairs in the
enu+jets channel using ppbar collider data (integrated luminosity= 115 pb^-1)
collected by the DZero experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during 1992-96. The
analysis yields no candidate events. We combine the results with those from the
ee+jets and nunu+jets channels to obtain 95% confidence level (CL) upper limits
on the LQ pair production cross section as a function of mass and of beta, the
branching fraction to a charged lepton. Comparing with the next-to-leading
order theory, we set 95% CL lower limits on the LQ mass of 225, 204, and 79
GeV/c^2 for beta=1, 1/2, and 0, respectively.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letters Replaced to
