    Dense breast on screening mammography: utility and futility of additional ultrasound.

    High breast density decreases the sensitivity of mammography. Regardless of masking effect, it is also a stronger predictor for breast cancer than most other risk factors, including family history. Up to 50% of women have dense breast (categories C+D). The relative risk is 2.1 to 2.3 in women with extremely dense breast (category d). There is little consensus on the potential need of additional measures. Breast Ultrasound (US) may be proposed as an adjunctive test, as it is non-invasive and non-irradiating. Since 2012, our program for breast cancer screening propose to realise an additional US to the women with category d breasts. An evaluation of the data of the first year showed that less 50% of the women act upon the recommendation. In spite of the low compliance supplementary cancers were found. Since, no more evaluation was performed. The aim of this study was: To evaluate the effect of the recommendation in term of additional cancer's identification, additional biopsies and additional investigations.     Insights on Fission Products behaviour in Nuclear Severe Accident Conditions by X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy

    International audienceMany research programs have been carried out aiming to understand the fission products behaviour during a Nuclear Severe Accident. Most of these programs used highly radioactive irradiated nuclear fuel, which requires complex instrumentation. Moreover, the radioactive character of samples hinders an accurate chemical characterisation. In order to overcome these difficulties, SIMFUEL stand out as an alternative to perform complementary tests. A sample made of UO2_2 doped with 11 fission products was submitted to an annealing test up to 1973 K in reducing atmosphere. The sample was characterized before and after the annealing test using SEM-EDS and XAS at the MARS beam-line, SOLEIL Synchrotron. It was found that the overall behaviour of several fission products (such as Mo, Ba, Pd and Ru) was similar to that observed experimentally in irradiated fuels and consistent with thermodynamic estimations. The experimental approach presented in this work has allowed obtaining information on chemical phases evolution under nuclear severe accident conditions, that are yet difficult to obtain using irradiated nuclear fuel samples

    Limits on WWgamma and WWZ Couplings from W Boson Pair Production

    The results of a search for W boson pair production in pbar-p collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV with subsequent decay to emu, ee, and mumu channels are presented. Five candidate events are observed with an expected background of 3.1+-0.4 events for an integrated luminosity of approximately 97 pb^{-1}. Limits on the anomalous couplings are obtained from a maximum likelihood fit of the E_T spectra of the leptons in the candidate events. Assuming identical WWgamma and WWZ couplings, the 95 % C.L. limits are -0.62<Delta_kappa<0.77 (lambda = 0) and -0.53<lambda<0.56 (Delta_kappa = 0) for a form factor scale Lambda = 1.5 TeV.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review

    Headache prevalence in the population of L’Aquila (Italy) after the 2009 earthquake

    Stress induced by the events of daily life is considered a major factor in pathogenesis of primary tension-type headache. Little is known about the impact that could have a more stressful event, like a natural disaster, both in patients with chronic headache, both in people that do not had headache previously. The aim of the present study was to observe the prevalence of headache in the population following the devastating earthquake that affected the province of L’Aquila on April 6, 2009. The study population was conducted in four tent cities (Onna, Bazzano, Tempera-St. Biagio, Paganica). Sanitary access is recorded in the registers of medical triage, in the first 5 weeks, after the April 6, 2009. The prevalence of primary headache presentation was 5.53% (95% CI 4.2–7.1), secondary headache was 2.82% (95% CI 1.9–4.9). Pain intensity, assessed by Numerical Rating Scale score showed a mean value of 7 ± 1.1 (range 4–10). The drugs most used were the NSAIDs (46%) and paracetamol (36%), for impossibility of finding causal drugs. This study shows how more stressful events not only have an important role in determining acute exacerbation of chronic headache, but probably also play a pathogenic role in the emergence of primary headache. Also underlines the lack of diagnostic guidelines or operating protocols to early identify and treat headache in the emergency settings

    Search for W~1Z~2\widetilde{W}_1\widetilde{Z}_2 Production via Trilepton Final States in ppˉp\bar{p} collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV

    We have searched for associated production of the lightest chargino, W~1\widetilde{W}_1, and next-to-lightest neutralino, Z~2\widetilde{Z}_2, of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model in ppˉp\bar{p} collisions at \mbox{s\sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV} using the \D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 12.5±0.7\pm 0.7 \ipb were examined for events containing three isolated leptons. No evidence for W~1Z~2\widetilde{W}_1\widetilde{Z}_2 pair production was found. Limits on σ(W~1Z~2)\sigma(\widetilde{W}_1\widetilde{Z}_2)Br(W~1lνZ~1)(\widetilde{W}_1\to l\nu\widetilde{Z}_1)Br(Z~2llˉZ~1)(\widetilde{Z}_2\to l\bar{l}\widetilde{Z}_1) are presented.Comment: 17 pages (13 + 1 page table + 3 pages figures). 3 PostScript figures will follow in a UUEncoded, gzip'd, tar file.     Second Generation Leptoquark Search in p\bar{p} Collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV

    We report on a search for second generation leptoquarks with the D\O\ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppˉp\bar{p} collider at s\sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV. This search is based on 12.7 pb1^{-1} of data. Second generation leptoquarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and to decay into a muon and quark with branching ratio β\beta or to neutrino and quark with branching ratio (1β)(1-\beta). We obtain cross section times branching ratio limits as a function of leptoquark mass and set a lower limit on the leptoquark mass of 111 GeV/c2^{2} for β=1\beta = 1 and 89 GeV/c2^{2} for β=0.5\beta = 0.5 at the 95%\ confidence level.Comment: 18 pages, FERMILAB-PUB-95/185-

    Measurement of the WW Boson Mass

    A measurement of the mass of the WW boson is presented based on a sample of 5982 WeνW \rightarrow e \nu decays observed in ppp\overline{p} collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 1.8~TeV with the D\O\ detector during the 1992--1993 run. From a fit to the transverse mass spectrum, combined with measurements of the ZZ boson mass, the WW boson mass is measured to be MW=80.350±0.140(stat.)±0.165(syst.)±0.160(scale)GeV/c2M_W = 80.350 \pm 0.140 (stat.) \pm 0.165 (syst.) \pm 0.160 (scale) GeV/c^2.Comment: 12 pages, LaTex, style Revtex, including 3 postscript figures (submitted to PRL

    Search for Top Squark Pair Production in the Dielectron Channel

    This report describes the first search for top squark pair production in the channel stop_1 stopbar_1 -> b bbar chargino_1 chargino_1 -> ee+jets+MEt using 74.9 +- 8.9 pb^-1 of data collected using the D0 detector. A 95% confidence level upper limit on sigma*B is presented. The limit is above the theoretical expectation for sigma*B for this process, but does show the sensitivity of the current D0 data set to a particular topology for new physics.Comment: Five pages, including three figures, submitted to PRD Brief Report

    We report on a search for bottom squarks produced in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at Fermilab. Bottom squarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and to decay to the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and a b quark with branching fraction of 100%. The LSP is assumed to be the lightest neutralino and stable.
