    Microwave photoresistance of a high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas in a triangular antidot lattice

    The microwave (MW) photoresistance has been measured on a high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas patterned with a shallow triangular antidot lattice, where both the MW-induced resistance oscillations (MIRO) and magnetoplasmon (MP) resonance are observed superposing on sharp commensurate geometrical resonance (GR).     Deforming Maps for Lie Group Covariant Creation and Annihilation Operators

    Any deformation of a Weyl or Clifford algebra A can be realized through a `deforming map', i.e. a formal change of generators in A. This is true in particular if A is covariant under a Lie algebra g and its deformation is induced by some triangular deformation UhgU_h g of the Hopf algebra UgUg. We propose a systematic method to construct all the corresponding deforming maps, together with the corresponding realizations of the action of UhgU_h g. The method is then generalized and explicitly applied to the case that UhgU_h g is the quantum group Uhsl(2)U_h sl(2). A preliminary study of the status of deforming maps at the representation level shows in particular that `deformed' Fock representations induced by a compact UhgU_h g can be interpreted as standard `undeformed' Fock representations describing particles with ordinary Bose or Fermi statistics.Comment: Latex file, 26 pages, no figures.     Kinetic simulations of X-B and O-X-B mode conversion

    We have performed fully-kinetic simulations of X-B and O-X-B mode conversion in one and two dimensional setups using the PIC code EPOCH. We have recovered the linear dispersion relation for electron Bernstein waves by employing relatively low amplitude incoming waves. The setups presented here can be used to study non-linear regimes of X-B and O-X-B mode conversion.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Piezoelectric mechanism of orientation of stripe structures in two-dimensional electron systems

    A piezoelectric mechanism of orientation of stripes in two-dimensional quantum Hall systems in GaAs heterostructures is considered. The anisotropy of the elastic moduli and the boundary of the sample are taken into account. It is found that in the average the stripes line up with the [110] axis. In double layer systems the wave vector of the stripe structure rotates from the [110] to [100] axis if the period of density modulation becomes large than the interlayer distance. From the experimental point of view it means that in double layer systems anisotropic part of resistivity changes its sign under variation of the external magnetic field.Comment: 8 page

    Pharmacokinetics of Scopolamine Intranasal Gel Formulation (INSCOP) During Antiorthostatic Bedrest

    Space Motion Sickness (SMS) is experienced during early flight days of space missions and on reduced gravity simulation flights which require treatment with medications. Oral administration of scopolamine tablets is still a common practice to prevent SMS symptoms. Bioavailability of medications taken by mouth for SMS is often low and variable. Intranasal (IN) administration of medications has been reported to achieve higher and more reliable bioavailability than from an equivalent oral dose. In this FDA reviewed phase II clinical trial, we evaluated pharmacokinetics of an investigative new drug formulation, INSCOP during ambulatory (AMB) and antiorthostatic bedrest (HBR), a ground-based microgravity analog. Twelve subjects including 6 males and 6 females received 0.2 and 0.4 mg doses of INSCOP on separate days during AMB and ABR in a randomized, double blind cross over experimental design. Blood samples were collected at regular time intervals for 24 h post dose and analyzed for free scopolamine concentrations by an LC-MS-MS method. Pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated using concentration versus time data and compared between AMB and ABR conditions. Results indicated that maximum concentration and relative bioavailability increased marginally during ABR compared to AMB; differences in PK parameters between AMB and ABR were greater with 0.2 mg than with 0.4 mg dose. Gender specific differences in PK parameters was observed both during AMB and ABR with differences higher in females between the two conditions than in males. A significant observation is that while gender differences in PK appear to exist, the differences in primary PK parameters between AMB and ABR after IN administration, unlike oral administration, are minimal and may not be clinically significant for both genders
