Quantum correlations and Nash equilibria of a bi-matrix game
Playing a symmetric bi-matrix game is usually physically implemented by
sharing pairs of 'objects' between two players. A new setting is proposed that
explicitly shows effects of quantum correlations between the pairs on the
structure of payoff relations and the 'solutions' of the game. The setting
allows a re-expression of the game such that the players play the classical
game when their moves are performed on pairs of objects having correlations
that satisfy the Bell's inequalities. If players receive pairs having quantum
correlations the resulting game cannot be considered another classical
symmetric bi-matrix game. Also the Nash equilibria of the game are found to be
decided by the nature of the correlations.Comment: minor correction
Nifurtimox Is Effective Against Neural Tumor Cells and Is Synergistic with Buthionine Sulfoximine.
Children with aggressive neural tumors have poor survival rates and novel therapies are needed. Previous studies have identified nifurtimox and buthionine sulfoximine (BSO) as effective agents in children with neuroblastoma and medulloblastoma. We hypothesized that nifurtimox would be effective against other neural tumor cells and would be synergistic with BSO. We determined neural tumor cell viability before and after treatment with nifurtimox using MTT assays. Assays for DNA ladder formation and poly-ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) cleavage were performed to measure the induction of apoptosis after nifurtimox treatment. Inhibition of intracellular signaling was measured by Western blot analysis of treated and untreated cells. Tumor cells were then treated with combinations of nifurtimox and BSO and evaluated for viability using MTT assays. All neural tumor cell lines were sensitive to nifurtimox, and IC50 values ranged from approximately 20 to 210 μM. Nifurtimox treatment inhibited ERK phosphorylation and induced apoptosis in tumor cells. Furthermore, the combination of nifurtimox and BSO demonstrated significant synergistic efficacy in all tested cell lines. Additional preclinical and clinical studies of the combination of nifurtimox and BSO in patients with neural tumors are warranted

Toolbox Value Creation Handbook : Charting People, Planet and Profit in Value Chains
To create a sustainable society companies need new data and information regarding e.g. environmental and societal impacts of new products or processes are necessary, but these are often missing. Information systems can play an important role here and many tools are already developed. It became clear that one crucial tool was lacking: One that (a) integrates People, Planet, and Profit value (b) focuses on the whole production chains and (c) allows flexible data input. A new tool, QChain, was born. QChain is meant for anybody who works on sustainability issues, aiming to create a sustainable production chain. In practice this will often be policy makers, champions, consultants and network coordinators that work on a sustainability problem or valorisation issues. The tool is especially useful in organizations that feel the need or want to create the need to not only focus on profit, but also reckon with people and planet value – their licence to produce. QChain is a drawing tool that supports shared value creation for sustainable production chains
The Kinematics of CIV in Star-Forming Galaxies at z~1.2
We present the first statistical sample of rest-frame far-UV spectra of
star-forming galaxies at z~1. These spectra are unique in that they cover the
high-ionization CIV{\lambda}{\lambda}1548, 1550 doublet. We also detect
low-ionization features such as SiII{\lambda}1527, FeII{\lambda}1608,
AlII{\lambda}1670, NiII{\lambda}{\lambda}1741, 1751 and SiII{\lambda}1808, and
intermediate-ionization features from AlIII{\lambda}{\lambda}1854, 1862.
Comparing the properties of absorption lines of lower- and higher- ionization
states provides a window into the multi-phase nature of circumgalactic gas. Our
sample is drawn from the DEEP2 survey and spans the redshift range 1.01 < z <
1.35 ( = 1.25). By isolating the interstellar CIV absorption from the
stellar P-Cygni wind profile we find that 69% of the CIV profiles are
blueshifted with respect to the systemic velocity. Furthermore, CIV shows a
small but significant blueshift relative to FeII (offset of the best-fit linear
regression -76 26 km/s). At the same time, the CIV blueshift is on
average comparable to that of MgII{\lambda}{\lambda}2796, 2803. At this point,
in explaining the larger blueshift of CIV absorption at the ~ 3-sigma level, we
cannot distinguish between the faster motion of highly-ionized gas relative to
gas traced by FeII, and filling in on the red side from resonant CIV emission.
We investigate how far-UV interstellar absorption kinematics correlate with
other galaxy properties using stacked spectra. These stacking results show a
direct link between CIV absorption and the current SFR, though we only observe
small velocity differences among different ionization states tracing the
