A multi-axis accelerometer which utilizes a magnetically-suspended, high-TC proof mass is under development. The design and performance of a single axis device which is stabilized actively in the axial direction but which utilizes ring magnets for passive radial stabilization is discussed. The design of a full six degree-of-freedom device version is also described

A portrait of John P. and Georgianna Hopley seated in rocking chairs on their front porch with a dog, Bucyrus, Ohio, ca. 1890-1899. John Hopley (1821-1904) is reading a newspaper while Georgianna (1826-1904) looks toward the camera. At the time this photograph was taken, John and Georgianna would have been in their late sixties or seventies. A pug dog sits on a rug between them. The porch floor is carpeted. The upper half of the front door is ornate leaded glass. Born and educated in England, John Hopley emigrated to the United States in 1842 and settled in Ohio, where he remained for most of his adult life. He was a teacher, lawyer, newspaper owner, and postmaster. John and Georgianna had ten children, nine of whom survived to adulthood. Various members of the Hopley family were active in business, journalism, politics, the temperance movement, and woman suffrage
