Limits on the neutron-antineutron oscillation time from the stability of nuclei
We refute a recent claim by Nazaruk that the limits placed on the free--space
neutron--antineutron oscillation time can be improved by
many orders of magnitude with respect to the estimate , where is a measured limit on the annihilation
lifetime of a nucleus and MeV is a typical antineutron-nucleus

Lessons from Learning the Craft of Theory-Driven Research
This article presents a case study of the structure and logic of the author’s dissertation, with a focus on theoretical content. Designed for use in proposal writing seminars or research methods courses, the article stresses the value of identifying the originating, specifying and subsidiary research questions; clarifying the subject and object of the research; situating research within a particular research tradition, and using a competing theories approach. The article stresses the need to identify conceptual problems and empirical problems and their associated conceptual and operational definitions. The primary theoretical perspective is drawn from emerging sociology of externalities rooted in ecological theory, within the institutionalist tradition
The moment of microaggression: The experience of acts of oppression, dehumanization and exploitation
After a brief introduction and review of recent literature on microaggressions, a theoretical typology of three sources of social injustice (oppression, dehumanization, and exploitation) contributes to the theorization of the sources of microaggressions. A selected compendium of words and affective phrases generated in classroom exercises illustrates the nature of the experience of the moment of microaggression. Future research on microaggressions as well as evaluation of practice should examine the experience of microaggression, including being subjected to microaggression, initiating such acts, and observing such acts

Creating learning solutions for executive education programs
Executive education is both a growing and increasingly competitive industry. The traditional business school, once a dominant player in this space, now faces competition from sophisticated and focused consultants and for-profit training specialists offering a variety of face-to-face and on-line instructional vehicles. An abiding question has become ever more prevalent for business schools – are executive education clients getting meaningful, long-term value for their significant investments? Demonstrating value and building capabilities is different for a generic, open enrolment course than for a custom program. This paper proposes a solutions-based approach to the development and implementation of customized executive programs, arguing that the tailored customer focus and the operational rigor of a solutions perspective leads to sustainable and measurable client value both at the individual and corporate level. A case study involving a global high technology company is used to demonstrate the steps required to apply a solutions roadmap. The results show that a solutions approach – carefully and collaboratively undertaken in selected settings – can provide considerable benefits to both client and provider. Further research is proposed to validate and develop the learning points
Neutron--Antineutron Oscillations at the Surface of Nuclei
We discuss some aspects of possible neutron--antineutron oscillations in
nuclei. The phenomenon occurs mostly at the surface of nuclei, and hence {\sl
i)} is not very sensitive to medium corrections and {\sl ii)} makes use of the

Mutual information for examining correlations in DNA
This paper examines two methods for finding whether long-range correlations
exist in DNA: a fractal measure and a mutual information technique. We evaluate
the performance and implications of these methods in detail. In particular we
explore their use comparing DNA sequences from a variety of sources. Using
software for performing in silico mutations, we also consider evolutionary
events leading to long range correlations and analyse these correlations using
the techniques presented. Comparisons are made between these virtual sequences,
randomly generated sequences, and real sequences. We also explore correlations

On the determination of the pion effective mass in nuclei from pionic atoms
The binding energies of the deeply bound 1s and 2p states in pionic atoms of
Pb, recently established experimentally in the Pb(d,He)
reaction, have been used by several groups to derive the pion effective mass in
nuclear matter. We show that these binding energies are fully consistent with
`normal' pionic atoms and that the real part of the pion-nucleus potential at
the center of Pb is 283 MeV and not 20 MeV as suggested

Measuring the Integrative Impact of Managers, Entrepreneurs and Leaders in Sustaining innovation: A Tool for Customized Executive Education Programs
Three major decision-making archetypes exist in an organization: managers who focus mainly on the complexity of current issues, leaders who are responsible for facilitating change, and entrepreneurs who identify and develop opportunities. A measurement tool was designed (the MEL-Index) that allows a firm to assess the managerial, entrepreneurial and leadership capabilities of its key personnel as well as for the company as a whole. The current paper describes the application of the MEL-Index during an extended executive education program with a mid-sized German high-technology company. A one-hour face-to-face interview was conducted with 22 senior executives within two of the company’s business units. All participants provided a self-evaluation of their own MEL capabilities as well as a peer evaluation of their colleagues. In addition, they evaluated their current job, their own business unit and the entire company based on the MEL typologies. The MEL results were used as a diagnostic instrument where each participant received feedback in both written and graphic form. We show the examples of individual as well as the cumulative ratings for each of the business units. The executive education setting allowed for reflection on both individual and group scores. The response to the Tool has been overwhelmingly positive with the result that the remaining business units will complete the executive program, along with the embedded MEL process, over the next two years
