Some Correlation Functions of Minimal Superconformal Models Coupled to Supergravity
We compute general three-point functions of minimal superconformal models
coupled to supergravity in the Neveu-Schwarz sector for spherical topology thus
extending to the superconformal case the results of Goulian and Li and of

On the AdS/CFT Dual of Deconstruction
We consider a class of non-supersymmetric gauge theories obtained by
orbifolding the N=4 super-Yang-Mills theories. We focus on the resulting quiver
theories in their deconstructed phase, both at small and large coupling, where
a fifth dimension opens up. In particular we investigate the r\^ole played by
this extra dimension when evaluating the rectangular Wilson loops encoding the
interaction potential between quarks located at different points in the
orbifold. The large coupling potential of the deconstructed quiver theory is
determined using the AdS/CFT correspondence and analysing the corresponding
minimal surface solution for the dual gravitational metric. At small coupling,
the potential between quarks decreases with their angular distance while at
strong coupling we find a linear dependence at large distance along the
(deconstructed) fifth dimension.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figure
Screening disability insurance applications
This paper investigates the effects of stricter screening of disability insurance applications. A large-scale experiment was setup where in two of the 26 Dutch regions case workers of the disability insurance administration were instructed to screen applications more stringently. The empirical results show that stricter screening reduces long-term sickness absenteeism and disability insurance applications. We find evidence for direct effects of stricter screening on work resumption during the period of sickness absence and for self-screening by potential disability insurance applicants. Stricter screening seems to improve targeting efficiency, without inducing negative spillover effects to the inflow into unemployment insurance. Estimating Be Star Disk Radii using H-alpha Emission Equivalent Widths
We present numerical models of the circumstellar disks of Be stars, and we
describe the resulting synthetic H-alpha emission lines and maps of the
wavelength-integrated emission flux projected onto the sky. We demonstrate that
there are monotonic relationships between the emission line equivalent width
and the ratio of the angular half-width at half maximum of the projected disk
major axis to the radius of the star. These relationships depend mainly upon
the temperatures of the disk and star, the inclination of the disk normal to
the line of sight, and the adopted outer boundary for the disk radius. We show
that the predicted H-alpha disk radii are consistent with those observed
directly through long baseline interferometry of nearby Be stars (especially
once allowance is made for disk truncation in binaries and for dilution of the
observed H-alpha equivalent width by continuum disk flux in the V-band).Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, ApJL in pres
Topological Structure of the SU(3) Vacuum
We investigate the topological structure of the vacuum in SU(3) lattice gauge
theory. We use under-relaxed cooling to remove the high-frequency fluctuations
and a variety of "filters" to identify the topological charges in the resulting
smoothened field configurations. We find a densely packed vacuum with an
average instanton size, in the continuum limit, of about 0.5 fm. The density at
large sizes decreases as a large inverse power of the size. At small sizes we
see some sign of a trend towards the asymptotic perturbative behaviour. We find
that an interesting polarisation phenomenon occurs: the large topological
charges tend to have, on the average, the same sign and are over-screened by
the smaller charges which tend to have, again on the average, the opposite sign
to the larger instantons. We also calculate the topological susceptibility for
which we obtain a continuum value of about 187 MeV. We perform the calculations
for various volumes, lattice spacings and numbers of cooling sweeps, so as to
obtain some control over the associated systematic errors. The coupling range
is from beta=6.0 to beta=6.4 and the lattice volumes range from 16x16x16x48 to

Longitudinal effects of integrated treatment on alcohol use for persons with serious mental illness and substance use disorders
A randomized experimental design was used to assign participants to an integrated mental health and substance use treatment program or to standard hospital treatment. A multilevel, nonlinear model was used to estimate hospital treatment effects on days of alcohol use for persons with serious mental illness and substance use disorders over 18 months. The integrated treatment program had a significant effect on the rate of alcohol use at 2 months postdischarge, reducing the rate of use by 54%. Motivation for sobriety at hospital discharge, posttreatment self-help attendance, and social support for sobriety were also found to reduce the rate of use during the follow-up period. Suppression of Ground-State Magnetization in Finite-Sized Systems Due to Off-Diagonal Interaction Fluctuations
We study a generic model of interacting fermions in a finite-sized disordered
system. We show that the off-diagonal interaction matrix elements induce
density of states fluctuations which generically favor a minimum spin ground
state at large interaction amplitude, . This effect competes with the
exchange effect which favors large magnetization at large , and it
suppresses this exchange magnetization in a large parameter range. When
off-diagonal fluctuations dominate, the model predicts a spin gap which is
larger for odd-spin ground states as for even-spin, suggesting a simple
experimental signature of this off-diagonal effect in Coulomb blockade

Symmetries of Large N Matrix Models for Closed Strings
We obtain the symmetry algebra of multi-matrix models in the planar large N
limit. We use this algebra to associate these matrix models with quantum spin
chains. In particular, certain multi-matrix models are exactly solved by using
