Open String Wavefunctions in Warped Compactifications
We analyze the wavefunctions for open strings in warped compactifications,
and compute the warped Kahler potential for the light modes of a probe D-brane.
This analysis not only applies to the dynamics of D-branes in warped
backgrounds, but also allows to deduce warping corrections to the closed string
Kahler metrics via their couplings to open strings. We consider in particular
the spectrum of D7-branes in warped Calabi-Yau orientifolds, which provide a
string theory realizations of the Randall-Sundrum scenario. We find that
certain background fluxes, necessary in the presence of warping, couple to the
fermionic wavefunctions and qualitatively change their behavior. This modified
dependence of the wavefunctions are needed for consistency with supersymmetry,
though it is present in non-supersymmetric vacua as well. We discuss the
deviations of our setup from the RS scenario and, as an application of our
results, compute the warping corrections to Yukawa couplings in a simple model.
Our analysis is performed both with and without the presence of D-brane

Gauge-Invariant Resummation Formalism and Unitarity in Non-Commutative QED
We re-examine the perturbative properties of four-dimensional non-commutative
QED by extending the pinch techniques to the theta-deformed case. The explicit
independence of the pinched gluon self-energy from gauge-fixing parameters, and
the absence of unphysical thresholds in the resummed propagators permits a
complete check of the optical theorem for the off-shell two-point function. The
known anomalous (tachyonic) dispersion relations are recovered within this
framework, as well as their improved version in the (softly broken) SUSY case.
These applications should be considered as a first step in constructing
gauge-invariant truncations of the Schwinger-Dyson equations in the
non-commutative case. An interesting result of our formalism appears when
considering the theory in two dimensions: we observe a finite gauge-invariant
contribution to the photon mass because of a novel incarnation of IR/UV mixing,

Gauge thresholds in the presence of oblique magnetic fluxes
We compute the one-loop partition function and analyze the conditions for
tadpole cancellation in type I theories compactified on tori in the presence of
internal oblique magnetic fields. We check open - closed string channel duality
and discuss the effect of T-duality. We address the issue of the quantum
consistency of the toroidal model with stabilized moduli recently proposed by
Antoniadis and Maillard (AM). We then pass to describe the computation of
one-loop threshold corrections to the gauge couplings in models of this kind.

Is There A String Theory Landscape
We examine recent claims of a large set of flux compactification solutions of
string theory. We conclude that the arguments for AdS solutions are plausible.
The analysis of meta-stable dS solutions inevitably leads to situations where
long distance effective field theory breaks down. We then examine whether these
solutions are likely to lead to a description of the real world. We conclude
that one must invoke a strong version of the anthropic principle. We explain
why it is likely that this leads to a prediction of low energy supersymmetry
breaking, but that many features of anthropically selected flux

No Exit? Withdrawal Rights and the Law of Corporate Reorganizations
Bankruptcy scholarship is largely a debate about the comparative merits of a mandatory regime on one hand and bankruptcy by free design on the other. By the standard account, the current law of corporate reorganization is mandatory. Various rules that cannot be avoided ensure that investors’ actions are limited and they do not exercise their rights against specialized assets in a way that destroys the value of a business as a whole. These rules solve collective action problems and reduce the risk of bargaining failure. But there are costs to a mandatory regime. In particular, investors cannot design their rights to achieve optimal monitoring as they could in a system of bankruptcy by free design. This Article suggests that the academic debate has missed a fundamental feature of the law. Bankruptcy operates on legal entities, not on firms in the economic sense. For this reason, sophisticated investors do not face a mandatory regime at all. The ability of investors to place assets in separate entities gives them the ability to create specific withdrawal rights in the event the firm encounters financial distress. There is nothing mandatory about rules like the automatic stay when assets can be partitioned off into legal entities that are beyond the reach of the bankruptcy judge. Thus, by partitioning assets of one economic enterprise into different legal entities, investors can create a tailored bankruptcy regime. In this way, legal entities serve as building blocks that can be combined to create specific and varied but transparent investor withdrawal rights. This regime of tailored bankruptcy has been unrecognized and underappreciated and may be preferable to both mandatory and free design regimes. By allowing a limited number of investors to opt out of bankruptcy in a particular, discrete, and visible way, investors as a group may be able to both limit the risk of bargaining failure and at the same time enjoy the disciplining effect that a withdrawal right brings with it
