Plant-Parasitic Nematodes in Iowa: Longidoridae and Trichodoriadae
Plant-parasitic nematodes, although common, are little known in Iowa. Many are important plant pathogens. This paper documents the nine species of Longidoridae and Trichodoridae known in Iowa. These are Longidorus breviannulatus, L. crassus, L. macromucronatus, L. sylphus, Xiphinema americanum, X. bakeri, X. chambersi, Paratrichodorus minor, and Trichodorus proximus
Hall carrier density and magnetoresistance measurements in thin film vanadium dioxide across the metal-insulator transition
Temperature dependent magneto-transport measurements in magnetic fields of up
to 12 Tesla were performed on thin film vanadium dioxide (VO2) across the
metal-insulator transition (MIT). The Hall carrier density increases by 4
orders of magnitude at the MIT and accounts almost entirely for the resistance
change. The Hall mobility varies little across the MIT and remains low,
~0.1cm2/V sec. Electrons are found to be the major carriers on both sides of
the MIT. Small positive magnetoresistance in the semiconducting phase is
measured
How young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds experience mental health: some insights for mental health nurses
This article reports on a part of a study which looked at the mental health of
culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) young people. The research sought to learn
from CALD young people, carers, and service providers experiences relevant to the
mental health of this group of young people. The ultimate goal was to gain insights that
would inform government policy, service providers, ethnic communities and most
importantly the young people themselves. To this end, qualitative interviews were
undertaken with 123 CALD young people, 41 carers and 14 mental health service
providers in Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia.
Only one aspect of the study will be dealt with here, namely the views of the
young CALD participants, which included risk factors, coping strategies and
recommendations about how they could be supported in their struggle to maintain
mental health. One of the most important findings of the study relates to the resilience
of these young people and an insight into the strategies that they used to cope. The
efforts of these young people to assist us in our attempts to understand their situation
deserve to be rewarded by improvements in the care that we provide. To this end this
article sets out to inform mental health nurses of the results of the study so that they will
be in a position to better understand the needs and strengths of their CALD clients and
be in a better position to work effectively with them

Quantifying Forest Ground Flora Biomass Using Proximal Sensing
Current focus on forest conservation and forest sustainability has increased the level of attention given to measures of ground flora in forest ecosystems. Traditionally, such data are collected via time- and resource-intensive methods of field identification, clipping, and weighing. With increased focus on community composition and structure measures of forest ground flora, the manner in which these data are collected must change. This project uses color and color infrared digital cameras to proximally sense forest ground flora and to develop regression models to predict green and dry biomass (g/m^) from the proximally sensed data. Traditional vegetative indices such as the Normalized Difference Vegetative Index (NDVI) and the Average Visible Reflectance Index (AVR) explained 35-45% of the variation in forest ground flora biomass. Adding individual color band variables, especially the red and near infrared bands, to the regression model allowed the model to explain 66% and 58% of the variation in green and dry biomass, respectively, present
Rotating Black Holes in Higher Dimensions with a Cosmological Constant
We present the metric for a rotating black hole with a cosmological constant
and with arbitrary angular momenta in all higher dimensions. The metric is
given in both Kerr-Schild and Boyer-Lindquist form. In the Euclidean-signature
case, we also obtain smooth compact Einstein spaces on associated S^{D-2}
bundles over S^2, infinitely many for each odd D\ge 5. Applications to string
