Generally, scales on the market still use manual models which often produce a measurement with the inappropriate result because of the accuracy problem or still have trouble with the level of precision. Furthermore, other measuring instruments are also only pendulum balances or analog scales whose output measurement results are only indicated by the pointer. The results of reading each person have different measurement results. In addition to requiring energy and a long time, the manual weighing process also has a negative impact that can harm consumers where the trader in the market usually cheats in trading. To address this problem, a digital rice weighing device is designed that is controlled by Arduino Uno by using a load cell sensor that having a capacity of 10kg (1/2 - 2.5 liters) which provides a change of resistance when there is a pressure. Changes in resistance can change the output voltage of a load cell. The voltage change that is too small so it is amplified using the HX711 and will convert it to digital in units of weight per liter. The level heavy of rice is calculated at prices corresponding to rice selected through pushbutton. The calculation results are displayed on the LCD if the rice is not enough 1 liter so the price and weight will not be displayed on the LCD. The output sound of Mini Df will mention the price based on the type of rice

International Legal Protection for Climate Refugees: Where Lies the Haven for the Maldivian People?

    Get PDF
Climate change and sea level rise are not just mere words for the Maldivian people; they are a grim reality that is consuming their nation. Sea level rise presents one of the gravest dangers for the Maldives because of its already low-lying characteristics. As the levels continue to rise, the nation is sinking into extinction. Some 300,000 people of the Maldives are on the brink of losing their homes and becoming climate change refugees. The existing international laws are not only ill-equipped to provide protections or the much-needed relief, they also make no mention of climate change refugees. Therefore, as the Maldivians await the result of the 2015 Paris Convention whose purpose is to achieve a binding universal agreement on climate change, they continue to face numerous human rights violations. Additionally, the loss of a nation does not only mean the loss of a home, it also means the loss of sovereignty at the international level. However, at the present time, finding a safe haven for its people is at the top of the Maldives agenda. The former president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, fought vigorously to bring the issue of sea level rise and climate change to the forefront. Knowing that such a day where he would have to move his people was not far in the distance, he also made plans to relocate. India and Australia have both been considered possible new homes; however, are both countries willing to take in such a large infiltration of refugees? What are the repercussions of moving to these countries? Would an artificial island possibly be the home the Maldivians are looking for? This article examines the options the Maldives has for relocation and why perhaps an artificial island may be a better solution

A study was conducted at Wolaita zone Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Regional State, Ethiopia with the objective of evaluating the effect of anti-nutritional factors and mineral contents on nutritional quality of kocho-fababean blended product. The experiment consisted of a completely randomized design in factorial arrangements with 25, 15 and 5% fababean blending ratios in kocho and 30 day fermentation conditions. The fermentation conditions included (co-fermentation of fababean and kocho for 30 days, fababean added on the 15th day and fababean added after 30 days kocho fermentation). Fababean at 25% kocho showed a significant effect (p<0.001), that resulted in an increased iron, zinc, phytic acid and condensed tannin content from 5.06, 4.62, 12.06, 2.00 mg/100 g to 7.22, 4.97, 120.05, 8.03 mg/100 g, respectively. Phytic acid content decreased from 120.05 to 67.03 and 67.05 and condensed tannin content also decreased from 8.03 to 3.42 and 3.73 mg/100 g. The  iron, zinc, phytic acid and condensed tannin content of this products (15% fababean per100 g kocho blend subjected to fababean added on the 15th day of kocho fermentation) were  4.48, 4.19, 51.07, 2.04 mg/100 g, respectively. Thus, 15% fababean per 100 g kocho blend subjected to fababean added on the 15th day of kocho fermentation produce acceptable kocho-fababean blended product. CASTE AND VIEWS TOWARD MARRIAGE AMONG TWO SIKH GENERATIONS IN GREATER VANCOUVER, CANADA

My research explores the relevance of caste in marriage and how the importance one places on caste is influenced by intersections of age, gender and level of education. Focusing on the Sikh population in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, I examine how the Sikh religion influences perceptions of marriage in relation to the caste system. I ask about attitudes toward marriage among a sample of married and unmarried people. The Sikh religion was formed to promote a particular vision of equality and I contend that this foundation may have shifted due to the organizing cultural framework of the caste system in India at that time. Over the years the caste system became a part of Sikhism but it is a system that creates a divide amongst people. If caste is still of central importance to people’s marriage, my research lays the foundation for asking, Why and how does caste still matter in modern times and to the Sikhs, particularly those in the diaspora? In this study, 20 interviews were conducted of Canadian born Sikh children (aged 22-30) and Sikh immigrant parents (with children aged 22-30). Based on these interviews, three themes emerged: (1) The way that Sikhism is practiced and interpreted differs from the teachings of the religion (2) Caste is not always taught but is a concept that can be socially engrained and transmitted intergenerationally (3) Conversations of caste arise around discussions of partnering and marriage, but beliefs concerning the caste system vary from family to family. Given that there is a large Sikh immigrant population in Canada that has Canadian-born Sikh children, I intend for this study to contribute to knowledge development in the field and to shed light on the struggles or conflict that Canadian-born Sikh children may face as they contemplate marriage

Background: Breastfeeding is accepted as the natural infant feeding, with provision of benefits both for the mothers and infants. World Health Organization (WHO) recommends timely initiation of breastfeeding after birth and only feeding breast milk to infants during the first 6 months of life. It was estimated that exclusive breastfeeding can reduce infant deaths by 13%. The practice of exclusive breastfeeding is suboptimal in many parts of Ethiopia to a varied extent. Factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding practice and the proportion of its practice was not well documented in Boditi town. Therefore, this study was aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice on exclusive breastfeeding of childbearing mothers in Boditi town, Southern Ethiopia. Methods: The community based descriptive cross-sectional study and systematic random sampling technique was used to assess knowledge, attitude and practice on exclusive breast feeding among mothers of childbearing age. A total of 351 respondents were taken and data was collected by face-to-face interview with structured questionnaire. Results: The study result showed that 331(94.3%) respondents knew what EBF mean while 298(85%) don’t think BF limit activity and 197(56.1%) had fed EBF for the first 6 month. Conclusions: This study has revealed that the majority of mothers in childbearing age of study area had high level of favorable knowledge, attitude and practice towards exclusive breastfeeding. This study documented a discrepancy between mother’s knowledge, attitude and practice of EBF. It is therefore recommended that efforts should be made by all concerned bodies to support and promote EBF in addition further large scale research needs to be conducted to identify determinant factors contributing to the discrepancy of practicing EBF in the study area. Prequalification in municipal solid waste management public-private partnerships of India

    Get PDF
Prequalification (PQ) is a significant process in the selection of private sector for the delivery of civil infrastructure projects.  But, the extant literature, for the most part, focused on PQ of construction projects.  The need for setting proper PQ, i.e., criteria and corresponding limits in public-private partnership (PPP) infrastructure projects, especially municipal solid waste (MSW) projects is still a lacuna in the body of knowledge of Indian PPPs.  To this end, this paper identified PQ criteria using content analysis of the sample of MSW projects. These identified criteria were subjected to regression modeling. These results were compared with the results of well-matured highway sector to draw comparison with MSW projects.  The practical implications are that urban local bodies (ULBs) are but less competent and less uniform in the rationale of setting the PQ criteria and limits.  This paper suggests that lowering the technical and financial PQ limits considering the market orientation will help in bringing more competitive bidders into the bidding.   Since MSW is in a very nascent stage of application of PPP, the study results could lay directions for future project procurement to discern right limits for right project sizes
