    Empirical Studies on Eva and Profitability Ratios Association with Annual Stock Return for Indonesia Companies

    This research analyzes the influence of Economic Value Added (EVA) and profitability ratios measurement on Indonesian public companies stock returns. The companies are firms that are listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and that take part in the LQ45 group. The profitability ratios that are used in this research are profit margin (PM), return on sales (ROS), return on equity (ROE), and return on assets (ROA). The aim of this research is to prove the claim that EVA is associated more with company annual stock return rather than profitability ratios. The methodology that is used in this research is a multiple regression test to measure the significance between EVA, profit margin (PM), return on sales (ROS), return on equity (ROE), and return on assets (ROA) with the company annual stock returns. The research result shows that in the end the research prove that EVA does not influence profitability ratios in association with company stock returns. The evidence indicates that profitability ratios are closely associated with company stock returns with the highest significance. More specificly, return on equity (ROE) is the most associated profitability ratio with stock returns followed by return on assets (ROA)

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Genetic disease studies investigate relationships between changes in chromosomes and genetic diseases. Single haplotypes provide useful information for these studies but extracting single haplotypes directly by biochemical methods is expensive. A computational method to infer haplotypes from genotype data is therefore important. We investigate the problem of computing the minimum number of recombination events for general pedigrees with a small number of sites for all members.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We show that this NP-hard problem can be parametrically reduced to the Bipartization by Edge Removal problem with additional parity constraints. We solve this problem with an exact algorithm that runs in <inline-formula><graphic file="1748-7188-6-8-i1.gif"/></inline-formula> time, where <it>n </it>is the number of members, <it>m </it>is the number of sites, and <it>k </it>is the number of recombination events.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This algorithm infers haplotypes for a small number of sites, which can be useful for genetic disease studies to track down how changes in haplotypes such as recombinations relate to genetic disease.</p

    Biomechanical Tolerance of Whole Lumbar Spines in Straightened Posture Subjected to Axial Acceleration

    Quantification of biomechanical tolerance is necessary for injury prediction and protection of vehicular occupants. This study experimentally quantified lumbar spine axial tolerance during accelerative environments simulating a variety of military and civilian scenarios. Intact human lumbar spines (T12‐L5) were dynamically loaded using a custom‐built drop tower. Twenty‐three specimens were tested at sub‐failure and failure levels consisting of peak axial forces between 2.6 and 7.9 kN and corresponding peak accelerations between 7 and 57 g. Military aircraft ejection and helicopter crashes fall within these high axial acceleration ranges. Testing was stopped following injury detection. Both peak force and acceleration were significant (p \u3c 0.0001) injury predictors. Injury probability curves using parametric survival analysis were created for peak acceleration and peak force. Fifty‐percent probability of injury (95%CI) for force and acceleration were 4.5 (3.9–5.2 kN), and 16 (13–19 g). A majority of injuries affected the L1 spinal level. Peak axial forces and accelerations were greater for specimens that sustained multiple injuries or injuries at L2–L5 spinal levels. In general, force‐based tolerance was consistent with previous shorter‐segment lumbar spine testing (3–5 vertebrae), although studies incorporating isolated vertebral bodies reported higher tolerance attributable to a different injury mechanism involving structural failure of the cortical shell. This study identified novel outcomes with regard to injury patterns, wherein more violent exposures produced more injuries in the caudal lumbar spine. This caudal migration was likely attributable to increased injury tolerance at lower lumbar spinal levels and a faster inertial mass recruitment process for high rate load application.
