Writing as life performed
In this chapter I explore the interrelatedness of practice, rehearsal, and performance and their applicability in the domain of “life.” These relationships are complicated when, in reference to Adorno’s Minima Moralia, the content of critical-essayistic production (which is analogous to aesthetic production in many ways) is ultimately that of the life of the author. I propose that to a large extent, the categories of practicing, rehearsing, and performing that are derivable from artistic-productive experience can be extended to lived experience. Working and living seriously and critically have significant points of convergence. What I attempt to disrupt is the presupposition of any “natural” hierarchy between these categories, whereby, for example, performance – connoting the tangible accomplishment of goals and the visibility of that accomplishment – takes precedence over the open-ended tasks of practice and rehearsal

Twistfield Perturbations of Vertex Operators in the Z_2-Orbifold Model
We apply Kadanoff's theory of marginal deformations of conformal field
theories to twistfield deformations of Z_2 orbifold models in K3 moduli space.
These deformations lead away from the Z_2 orbifold sub-moduli-space and hence
help to explore conformal field theories which have not yet been understood. In
particular, we calculate the deformation of the conformal dimensions of vertex
operators for p^2<1 in second order perturbation theory.Comment: Latex2e, 19 pages, 1 figur
Effects of experience on voluntary intake of supplements by cattle
Experiments examined the effects of prior experience of young cattle on their voluntary intake of supplements, and variability among animals in intake of supplements. Variability was measured using supplement labelled with lithium salts. Experiment 1 examined the effects of offering a concentrate supplement to calves before and/or after weaning on their subsequent intake of the same supplement and of a loose mineral mix supplement. Experience of the concentrate supplement increased acceptance and reduced variability in intake of the loose mineral mix supplement. However, neither voluntary intake (mean is 105 g DM/head.day) nor variability in intake of loose mineral mix supplement was affected by prior experience. Experiments 2 and 3 examined variability in intake of loose mineral mix supplement by weaners in larger groups or offered molasses–urea supplement, respectively. Experiment 4 examined the effects of provision of supplements and/or exposure to human activity and handling on subsequent intake of loose mineral mix supplement. Supplementing grazing weaners with concentrates had a transient effect by increasing voluntary intake of loose mineral mix supplement, but increased exposure to supplements, and human activity and handling while held in yards after weaning had no effects. Variability among animals in intake of loose mineral mix supplement (CV is 52–103%) tended to be greater than with the concentrate or molasses-based supplements (CV is 23–43%), irrespective of previous experience. There were fewer than 1% non-eaters of concentrate supplement and 0–7% non-eaters of loose mineral mix supplement. In experiment 5, prior experience of loose mineral mix supplements increased intake of such supplements by weaners during weeks 1 and 2 but not from weeks 3 to 9. In experiment 6, intake of loose mineral mix supplement by adult cattle was not affected by their experience as weaners of a similar supplement. In conclusion, although prior experience of supplements by young cattle sometimes increased their initial acceptance and voluntary intake of supplements, longer-term intake of supplements was not affected
Soft-gluon effects in WW production at hadron colliders
We consider QCD radiative corrections to WW pair production in hadron
collisions. We perform a calculation that consistently combines next-to-leading
order predictions with soft-gluon resummation valid at small transverse momenta
ptWW of the WW pair. We present results for the ptWW distribution at the LHC up
to (almost) next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, and study the effect
of resummation on the charged-lepton distributions. Soft-gluon effects are
typically mild, but they can be strongly enhanced when hard cuts are applied.
The relevant distributions are generally well described by the MC@NLO event

A new mechanism for a naturally small Dirac neutrino mass
A mechanism is proposed in which a right-handed neutrino zero mode and a
right-handed charged lepton zero mode can be localized at the same place along
an extra compact dimension while having markedly different spreads in their
wave functions: a relatively narrow one for the neutrino and a rather broad one
for the charged lepton. In their overlaps with the wave function for the
left-handed zero modes, this mechanism could produce a natural large hierarchy
in the effective Yukawa couplings in four dimensions, and hence a large

Two-Loop g -> gg Splitting Amplitudes in QCD
Splitting amplitudes are universal functions governing the collinear behavior
of scattering amplitudes for massless particles. We compute the two-loop g ->
gg splitting amplitudes in QCD, N=1, and N=4 super-Yang-Mills theories, which
describe the limits of two-loop n-point amplitudes where two gluon momenta
become parallel. They also represent an ingredient in a direct x-space
computation of DGLAP evolution kernels at next-to-next-to-leading order. To
obtain the splitting amplitudes, we use the unitarity sewing method. In
contrast to the usual light-cone gauge treatment, our calculation does not rely
on the principal-value or Mandelstam-Leibbrandt prescriptions, even though the
loop integrals contain some of the denominators typically encountered in
light-cone gauge. We reduce the integrals to a set of 13 master integrals using
integration-by-parts and Lorentz invariance identities. The master integrals
are computed with the aid of differential equations in the splitting momentum
fraction z. The epsilon-poles of the splitting amplitudes are consistent with a
formula due to Catani for the infrared singularities of two-loop scattering
amplitudes. This consistency essentially provides an inductive proof of
Catani's formula, as well as an ansatz for previously-unknown 1/epsilon pole
terms having non-trivial color structure. Finite terms in the splitting
amplitudes determine the collinear behavior of finite remainders in this

Prime ideals in nilpotent Iwasawa algebras
Let G be a nilpotent complete p-valued group of finite rank and let k be a
field of characteristic p. We prove that every faithful prime ideal of the
Iwasawa algebra kG is controlled by the centre of G, and use this to show that
the prime spectrum of kG is a disjoint union of commutative strata. We also
show that every prime ideal of kG is completely prime. The key ingredient in
the proof is the construction of a non-commutative valuation on certain
filtered simple Artinian rings
Universal structure of subleading infrared poles at strong coupling
Recently a concise expression for the subleading infrared singularity of
dimensional-regularized gauge theories has been proposed. For conformal
theories, such relation involves a universal eikonal contribution plus a
non-eikonal contribution, related to the subleading term in the anomalous
dimension of twist two operators with large spin. In this note we make use of
the AdS/CFT correspondence in order to check such conjecture at strong coupling
for the case of N=4 SYM.Comment: 13 page
