The maritime state of Karnataka is situated between 11° 31' and 18° 45' N and 74° 12‘ and 78° 40' E along the south-western peninsular India. The state consists of three coastal districts, namely Uttara Kannda, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. There are eight islands off Karwar, the district head quarter of Uttara Kannada District. These tropical islands are confined between 140 45’ N to 140 55’ N and 740 00’ to 740 07’ 30” E. The vicinities of these islands are key areas where commercial fishing is concentrated and these islands also act as refuges for many commercial and ecologically important flora and fauna. Devagad Island, regionally known as Devagadagudda Island, is one of the important Oyster rock Islands, with light house in it. This island is a reserve forest which covers 2.5 sq. km. with 41m elevation above MSL. The climate is wet monsoon type, with average total rainfall of around 3000mm/yr and temperature range between 20 0C to 38 0C. Though this island is important from the ecological and economic point of view, no detailed study is conducted to know the floral and faunal diversity of this island. Hence a study was conducted to assess the floral diversity of the island with special emphasis on the wetland floral diversity

Background: The postpartum period is an important time in a woman’s life to promote the health of the newborn and the mother. In INDIA, the unmet need for contraception in the first year postpartum is as high as 65%. Hence, this study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of immediate postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device (PPIUCD) as a method of contraception. Methods: The study was undertaken in KIMS Hospital and Research Centre, Bangalore. A total of 60 patients were recruited following complete evaluation. 30 patients had immediate postpartum post placental insertion and 30 patients had intracesarean insertion of Cu T 380A.Results: The patients who accepted PPIUCD mostly belonged to the age group 19-24 years, multigravida with one living issue. Insertion of IUCD was easy in 96.7% of the patients. Only 8.3% of the patients were anxious post insertion. 20% of the patients had minor complications, most commonly, bleeding and pain. There was only one case (1.7%) of infection (vaginitis). There were 23.3% of cases with missing strings but in all these cases IUCD was found in-situ on ultrasonography. Removal rate and expulsion rate were 6.7% and 5% respectively. Continuation rate was 88.3%.Conclusions: We can conclude from this study, that immediate PPIUCD is an effective and inexpensive contraceptive for all delivered women, as it can be easily provided by trained midwives due to its ease of insertion, high continuation rate and no major complications. Thus, we can prevent unwanted pregnancies, abortions and its untoward effects

Purpose: To develop and optimize carvedilol transdermal delivery system. Methods: Solvent casting method was used to prepare patches using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and Eudragit E100 (EE100) polymers, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) penetration enhancer, dibutylphthalate (DBP) plasticizer and Tween 80 surfactant. A 23 factorial design was used based on three variables (PMMA, EE100, DMSO). at two levels Second order polynomial equations indicating interplay of ingredients were obtained by factorial design using SigmaTech software for 1, 4, 8 and 20 h release data. so the design was extended to central composite design (CCD). The target formulation was obtained from contour plots and evaluated for various physicochemical parameters. including in-vitro dissolution studies. Results: Curvature effect was observed in F1 to F8 formulations, highlighting the interplay of ingredients. The interaction term (X2X3)exhibited highest Sum of Squares SS ratio at 1, 4, and 8 h data with positive coefficients indicating interaction; and so extended to CCD. From contour plots target formulation, F19, was identified and evaluated. The release data, were subjected to kinetic analysis, which followed Higuchi (diffusion) model (R2 = 0.9886).Conclusion: F19 yielded release profile nearer to the theoretical predictions with R2 of 0.9888 and followed Higuchi kinetics. Thus, a diffusion-mediated carvedilol matrix patch was successfully developed. Keywords: Carvedilol, Central composite design, Drug release, Transdermal patch

Now-a-days there are many matrimonial websites which are not used properly due to the problems like they are commercial and not reliable. The proposed system, Lifemate, is a matrimonial website developed to enhance reliability with less problems. This helps in searching for genuine brides and grooms as this is only for known group which involved registration with reference. The system enables to decide on to remain honest in efforts of marital and deliver the most effective results while not charging something. The seriousness about the concern is finding the suitable right life partner basing on preferences. Finally, matrimonial matchmaking is not just a business, but also a social cause. This attitude makes Lifemate unique amongst hundreds of other Matrimony and Matrimonial web sites. Reliable matches are selected by drawing decision tree by using Hunt’s algorithm. A decision tree may be a structure that has a root node, branches, and leaf nodes. Every internal node denotes a check on associate degree attribute, every branch denotes the end result of a check, and each leaf node holds a category label. The top node within the tree is that the root node. The decision making using Hunt’s algorithm is reliable and the preferences are not hindered

Background: Ovarian malignancy is one of the most common cancer in women and is diagnosed at later stage in majority. The limiting factor for early diagnosis is lack of standardized terms and procedures in gynaecological sonography. Recently, IOTA simple rules have been externally validated to have an increased sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing ovarian malignancy. Methods: This is a prospective study in the Department of obstetrics and gynaecology conducted at ESIC-MC & PGIMSR Hospital, Bangalore from January 2020 to June 2021. 50 women diagnosed with ovarian mass and scheduled for surgery were admitted and evaluated for nature of ovarian mass using IOTA simple rules on ultrasonography and correlated with their histopathological diagnosis. Results: Among 50 ovarian masses, all 38 masses (76%) characterized as benign by IOTA simple rules were true benign (100%) on histopathological diagnosis. 10 masses (20%) characterized as malignant, 9 were true malignant and 1 was false malignant on histopathological diagnosis. 2 cases which were inconclusive by IOTA simple rules were characterized as benign on histopathological diagnosis. Thus in our study test sensitivity was 100%, specificity 97.56%, positive predictive value 90% and negative predictive value 100%. Conclusions: In clinical practice, IOTA simple rules as a diagnostic tool helps in characterization of most ovarian masses, which aids in optimal management and enhance better outcome. In ovarian masses for which the rules yielded an inconclusive results, subjective assessment by an experienced sonologist is advocatedd

Hypertension, elevated blood pressure, is a noteworthy public health concern worldwide clue to its significant contribution to the global health burden and its role as a prominent risk factor for development of number of disease processes. The negative impact of hypertension on health status is very clear, especially taking into account of disability, decreased quality of life and mortality associated with stroke and cardiovascular disease and organ failure. Non-pharmacological interventions also effective in treating essential hypertension. Agitation management strategy is a nonpharmacologic modalities and its a relaxation technique that reaches the body to respond verbal commands. These commands tell the body to relax and control breathing rate, blood pressure, and body temperature. It is known that regular practice of breathing exercise and pleasant visualization which helps to increase parasympathetic tone, decrease sympathetic activity, improve physical and mental health. This study under taken to assess the effectiveness of agitation management strategy on blood pressure and stress level among patients with Hypertension admitted in Sree Mookambika Medical College Hospital, Kulasekharam. The objective of the study is to determine the effectiveness of agitation management in reducing blood pressure and stress among hypertensive clients. The researcher adopted a quantitative approach with two group pretest post test design. The study subjects were 60 patients with Hypertension admitted in Sree Mookambika Medical College Hospital who were selected by purposive sampling technique.
