    Iterative approach to arbitrary nonlinear optical response functions of graphene

    Two-dimensional materials constitute an exciting platform for nonlinear optics with large nonlinearities that are tunable by gating. Hence, gate-tunable harmonic generation and intensity-dependent refraction have been observed in e.g. graphene and transition-metal dichalcogenides, whose electronic structures are accurately modelled by the (massive) Dirac equation. We exploit on the simplicity of this model and demonstrate here that arbitrary nonlinear response functions follow from a simple iterative approach. The power of this approach is illustrated by analytical expressions for harmonic generation and intensity-dependent refraction, both computed up to ninth order in the pump field. Moreover, the results allow for arbitrary band gaps and gating potentials. As illustrative applications, we consider (i) gate-dependence of third- and fifth-harmonic generation in gapped and gapless graphene, (ii) intensity-dependent refractive index of graphene up to ninth order, and (iii) intensity-dependence of high-harmonic generation.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures.     Orientation-dependent ionization yields from strong-field ionization of fixed-in-space linear and asymmetric top molecules

    The yield of strong-field ionization, by a linearly polarized probe pulse, is studied experimentally and theoretically, as a function of the relative orientation between the laser field and the molecule. Experimentally, carbonyl sulfide, benzonitrile and naphthalene molecules are aligned in one or three dimensions before being singly ionized by a 30 fs laser pulse centered at 800 nm. Theoretically, we address the behaviour of these three molecules. We consider the degree of alignment and orientation and model the angular dependence of the total ionization yield by molecular tunneling theory accounting for the Stark shift of the energy level of the ionizing orbital. For naphthalene and benzonitrile the orientational dependence of the ionization yield agrees well with the calculated results, in particular the observation that ionization is maximized when the probe laser is polarized along the most polarizable axis. For OCS the observation of maximum ionization yield when the probe is perpendicular to the internuclear axis contrasts the theoretical results.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure

    Application-level performance of cross-layer scheduling for social VR in 5G

    Social VR aims at enabling people located at different places to communicate and interact with each other in a natural way. It poses extremely strong throughput and latency requirements on the underlying communication networks. This paper investigates the potential of using cross-layer design approaches for radio access scheduling in order to realize these challenging requirements in (beyond) 5G networks. In particular, we provide an in-depth simulation study of the performance/capacity gains that can be achieved by exploiting the end-to-end latency budget and/or video frame type as cross-layer information in the scheduling decisions, and show how the benefits depend on the actual social VR scenario. This study further reveals the importance of using application-level metrics such as PSNR or SSIM rather than traditional network-level metrics like the packet drop rate in the performance assessment.</p

    Factors affecting general practitioners' readiness to accept and use an electronic health record system in the republic of north Macedonia: a national survey of general practitioners

    Background: Electronic health records (EHRs) represent an important aspect of digital health care, and to promote their use further, we need to better understand the drivers of their acceptance among health care professionals. EHRs are not simple computer applications; they should be considered as a highly integrated set of systems. Technology acceptance theories can be used to better understand users' intentions to use EHRs. It is recommended to assess factors that determine the future acceptance of a system before it is implemented. Objective: This study uses a modified version of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology with the aim of examining the factors associated with intentions to use an EHR application among general practitioners (GPs) in the Republic of North Macedonia, a country that has been underrepresented in extant literature. More specifically, this study aims to assess the role of technology acceptance predictors such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, job relevance, descriptive norms, and satisfaction with existing eHealth systems already implemented in the country. Methods: A web-based invitation was sent to 1174 GPs, of whom 458 completed the questionnaire (response rate=40.2%). The research instrument assessed performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, and social influence in relation to the GPs' intentions to use future EHR systems. Job relevance, descriptive norms, satisfaction with currently used eHealth systems in the country, and computer/internet use were also measured. Results: Hierarchical linear regression analysis showed that effort expectancy, descriptive norms, social influence, facilitating conditions, and job relevance were significantly associated with intentions to use the future EHR system, but performance expectance was not. Multiple mediation modeling analyses further showed that social influence (z=2.64; P<.001), facilitating conditions (z=4.54; P<.001), descriptive norms (z=4.91; P<.001), and effort expectancy (z=5.81; P=.008) mediated the association between job relevance and intentions. Finally, moderated regression analysis showed that the association between social influence and usage intention was significantly moderated (P=.02) by experience (Bexperience×social influence=.005; 95% CI 0.001 to 0.010; β=.080). In addition, the association between social influence and intentions was significantly moderated (P=.02) by age (Bage×social influence=.005; 95% CI 0.001 to 0.010; β=.077). Conclusions: Expectations of less effort in using EHRs and perceptions on supportive infrastructures for enabling EHR use were significantly associated with the greater acceptance of EHRs among GPs. Social norms were also associated with intentions, even more so among older GPs and those with less work experience. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are also discussed

    The huge development of the digitized medical image has been steered to the enlargement and research of the Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) systems. Those systems retrieve and extract the images by their own low level features, like texture, shape and color. But those visual features did not aloe the users to request images by the semantic meanings. The image annotation or classification systems can be considered as the solution for the limitations of the CBIR, and to reduce the semantic gap, this has been aimed annotating or to make the classification of the image with few controlled keywords. In this paper, we suggest a new hierarchal classification for the X-ray medical image using the machine learning techniques, which are called the Support Vector Machine (SVM) and k-Nearest Neighbour (k-NN). Hierarchy classification design was proposed based on the main body region. Evaluation was conducted based on ImageCLEF2005 database. The obtained results in this research were improved compared to the previous related studies

    Acceptance of health information technology in health professionals: An application of the revised technology acceptance model

    The response of health professionals to the use of health information technology (HIT) is an important research topic that can partly explain the success or failure of any HIT application. The present study applied a modified version of the revised technology acceptance model (TAM) to assess the relevant beliefs and acceptance of HIT systems in a sample of health professionals (n = 133). Structured anonymous questionnaires were used and a cross-sectional design was employed. The main outcome measure was the intention to use HIT systems. ANOVA was employed to examine differences in TAM-related variables between nurses and medical doctors, and no significant differences were found. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to assess the predictors of HIT usage intentions. The findings showed that perceived ease of use, but not usefulness, relevance and subjective norms directly predicted HIT usage intentions. The present findings suggest that a modification of the original TAM approach is needed to better understand health professionals’ support and endorsement of HIT. Perceived ease of use, relevance of HIT to the medical and nursing professions, as well as social influences, should be tapped by information campaigns aiming to enhance support for HIT in healthcare settings
