An Ecological Dynamics perspective on Adventure Tourism
Traditional definitions for adventure tourism have focused on the adventure tourism activity or the adventure tourism environment. In these cases the activity is most often associated with risk and the environment associated with unfamiliarity and natural terrains. Critiques of these definitions have pointed out that this traditional perspective is limited. The risk focus is paradoxical as clients purchase adventure experiences involving risk and uncertainty, whereas tour operators must minimize the risk and emphasize safety. Additionally, adventure tourism can also take place in urban or man-made environments. Furthermore, the traditional definitions mostly ignore the lived experience of the adventure consumer. Individuals undertake adventure for a variety of reasons, including risk and thrills, health and well-being, connection to others and nature, recreational mastery, and personal development. We propose a nuanced conceptual understanding of adventure tourism within an ecological dynamics perspective that considers the relationship between the person, the adventure activity and the surrounding environment, and the recognition of affordances that support well-being. This theoretical approach provides a useful framework for operators and researchers that encourages a more personalized and meaningful experience for the tourist
Thermally assisted domain walls quantum tunneling at the high temperature range
A theoretical and numerical investigations of the quantum tunneling of the
domain walls in ferromagnets and weak ferromagnets was performed taking into
account the interaction between walls and thermal excitations of a crystal. The
numerical method for calculations of the probability of a thermally stimulated
quantum depinning as the function of temperature at the wide temperature range

Inventory Locating with Quuppa: The Design and Development of a Real-Time Process Monitoring Web Application Solution
Viasat, Inc. requires precise inventory tracking at their production facility in San Diego, CA. Viasat has installed the Quuppa indoor real-time locating system (RTLS), which it uses to track the real-time position of high-value work-in-process items. In its current state, the system only displays in-the-moment location information, with no available functionality for storing historical data for review, analysis, or visualization. In addition, the data displayed is noisy and prone to significant random error. This paper provides an overview of RTLS methods and technologies, assesses alternative solutions to Viasat’s issue, demonstrates our RTLS integrated web app solution, analyzes its impact, and offers recommendations for future development
Limited Impact of Awareness-Raising Campaigns on Hepatitis C Testing Practices among General Practitioners
Effective field theory and the quark model
We analyze the connections between the quark model (QM) and the description
of hadrons in the low-momentum limit of heavy-baryon effective field theory in
QCD. By using a three-flavor-index representation for the effective baryon
fields, we show that the ``nonrelativistic'' constituent QM for baryon masses
and moments is completely equivalent through O(m_s) to a parametrization of the
relativistic field theory in a general spin--flavor basis. The flavor and spin
variables can be identified with those of effective valence quarks. Conversely,
the spin-flavor description clarifies the structure and dynamical
interpretation of the chiral expansion in effective field theory, and provides
a direct connection between the field theory and the semirelativistic models
for hadrons used in successful dynamical calculations. This allows dynamical
information to be incorporated directly into the chiral expansion. We find, for
example, that the striking success of the additive QM for baryon magnetic
moments is a consequence of the relative smallness of the non-additive
spin-dependent corrections.Comment: 25 pages, revtex, no figure
