An Empirical study on the competitiveness and innovation in four sectors of the Turkish manufacturing industry

In this paper, we report on some of the results of the Innovations in Manufacturing Industries in Turkey Study (IMITS). This study is an empirical investigation into the innovation performance and competitive strategies of manufacturing firms in Turkey. The data was gathered in nine different cities in Turkey during the period August 2004 – January 2005. The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews due to the complex nature of the survey and was implemented in 135 manufacturing firms operating in four sectors: Textiles, chemicals, food processing, and metal. The study has been an extension of the European Manufacturing Survey 2004 (EMS 2004) coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research and covering nine countries: Germany, Turkey, Austria, Switzerland, France, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, and United Kingdom. Some of the basic results concerning competitive priorities, modernization of manufacturing, new product development, and quality management are presented

Dinlediğini Anlama ve Dinlemeye Etki Eden Faktörler Arasındaki İlişkiler

Listening is a process during which what is spoken is heard and comprehended. There are many cognitive, affective and psychological factors that can affect this process. Anxiety, which is one of the psychological factors, is a distressing emotionarising from the individual and has a direct impact on listening comprehension skills. The aim of this research is to investigate the relationship among elementary school students' listening comprehension skills, factors affecting listening. The research was designed and conducted within the framework of causal comparison method. The study group of the study consisted of 130 fourth grade primary school students. The listening comprehension test, listening anxiety scale and the form of other factors affecting listening, which were developed by the researchers and tested for validity and reliability in the scope of the research, were used as data collection tools. According to the results of the research; it was found that listening anxiety and other factors affecting listening processes negatively affect listening comprehension skills of students.It was found that the other factors affecting listening, along with listening anxiety reveal more than half of the variance in their listening comprehension skills.Dinleme konuşulanların işitildiği ve anlamlandırıldığı bir süreçtir. Bu sürece etki edebilecek pek çok bilişsel, duyuşsal ve psikolojik faktör bulunmaktadır. Psikolojik faktörlerden biri olan kaygı; bireyden kaynaklanan tedirgin edici bir duygudur ve dinlediğini anlama becerisine doğrudan etki eder. Bu araştırmanın amacı; ilkokul öğrencilerinin dinlediğini anlama becerileri ile dinlemeye etki eden faktörler arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesidir. Araştırma nedensel karşılaştırma yöntemi çerçevesinde tasarlanıp yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 130 ilkokul dördüncü sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilerek geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmaları yapılan dinlediğini anlama testi, dinleme kaygısı ölçeği ve dinlemeye etki eden diğer faktörler formu veri toplama araçları olarak kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; öğrencilerin dinleme kaygılarının ve dinleme süreçlerine etki eden diğer faktörlerin dinlediğini anlama becerilerini olumsuz etkilediği bulunmuştur. Dinlemeye etki eden diğer faktörlerin dinleme kaygısı ile birlikte öğrencilerin dinlediğini anlama becerisindeki varyansın yarısından fazlasını açıkladığı belirlenmiştir
