The most effective PR/advertising techniques in disseminating an alcohol social norms campaign
The purpose of this study was to determine the most effective PR/Advertising techniques to disseminate an Alcohol Social Norms Campaign at college campuses. The techniques used were analyzed for their effectiveness in reaching students and decreasing binge drinking rates. Three New Jersey colleges were studied: Rowan University, Ramapo College of New Jersey and The College of New Jersey.
The researcher collected primary data from the brag books of the three colleges for the fiscal year 2004 Alcohol Social Norms Campaigns, personal interviews with the Project Directors of these campaigns, and focus groups comprised of college students. The research supported the hypotheses that certain PR/Advertising techniques applied to an Alcohol Social Norms Campaign will more effectively reach the greatest number of students and that by using the most effective techniques binge drinking rates will decrease
A new assessment of the archaeological significance of the Ashworth site (15Bu236).
Reinvestigation of a National Register property, the Ashworth Rockshelter (15BU236), northeast of Shepardsville, Bullitt Co., Kentucky, revealed stratified Early Archaic through Mississippian components (ca. 7900 B.C.-1500 A.D.). Primary occupation occurred under the shelter and eight meters (horizontally) of talus were located. The depth of the deposit is two meters, the lowest third representing the Early Archaic period. Forty-five culturally-diagnostic projectile points delineated the strata. Seven well-preserved burials indicate early mortality, severe physical conditions, and a preference to bury under the shelter. Well-preserved mollusks and vertebrate remains indicate a subsistence shift from aquatic to forest-edge communities from Early to Late Archaic periods. Federal legislation relevant to the significance statement must be observed if sites such as Ashworth are to be fully assessed and their priority determined in an archaeological planning design for the region
While the Diva Wasn\u27t Looking: An Analytical Survey of Late-Romantic Italian Chamber Music
This dissertation examines a selection of late-romantic Italian chamber music works, particularly Giovanni Sgambati\u27s two piano quintets and Giuseppe Martucci\u27s piano quintet and two piano trios, and places them within the context of instrumental music\u27s resurgence in post-unification Italy. By establishing how Italy\u27s strongest sense of unification was its shared culture and how the standard of that culture began to evolve following the Risorgimento, I hope to draw attention to a body of chamber music that has been mostly overlooked. The introdctory chapter examines the background for the cultural evolution that surrounded the Risorgimento\u27s political goals, highlighting those threads which directly impacted the arts including Giuseppe Mazzini, Verdi and Italian opera, and Arrigo Boito and the scapigliatura. The second chapter focuses on Rome and, specifically, the work of Giovanni Sgambati with an in-depth, analytical look at both of his piano quintets. The third chapter moves forward chronologically, but with a shift to Naples and Bologna to concentrate on Giuseppe Martucci and his piano quintet and two piano trios. The conclusion follows, bookending the survey with Verdi\u27s Otello and the Italian state\u27s restructuring of its conservatories. It also recommends late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century Italian chamber works yet to be explored before Italy\u27s shift to Futurism. My goal is to bring attention to the chamber works of Sgambati and Martucci by thoroughly discussing what the works possess and thereby offering them greater definition. By accurately categorizing what these works display, the hope is that they may then begin to be placed in context of other late-romantic chamber music works
Instituting issue-based civics in the 11th grade classroom
There were several goals of this study. The first goal of this study was to identify if issue-based civics would produce any difference in a student\u27s attitude for and appreciation in civics. The second goal was to identify if issue-based civics would produce any difference in a student\u27s comprehension levels in civics. The last of these goals was to identify if the school a student attended had any impact on their attitude toward and appreciation of civics and comprehension levels in civics. The study was conducted on a sample of 70 11th grade students enrolled in American History II college prep classes available during a spring 2002 student teaching placement. The study was conducted at two different area high schools in southern New Jersey. An attitudinal survey was used to assess the participants\u27 attitude toward and appreciation of civics before and after treatment. The surveys were administered to both a traditional lecture-based group and an issue-based group. Results of the survey revealed that the participants of the issue-based group did not have a greater attitude toward and appreciation of civics as the researchers predicted. The results did not show a level of statistical significance (p\u3c.05) but did approach a level of statistical significance with a score of .086. A test was also administered to both groups before and after treatment
Operationally efficient propulsion system study (OEPSS) data book
A preliminary development plan for an integrated propulsion module (IPM) is described. The IPM, similar to the Space Transportation Main engine (STME) engine, is applicable to the Advanced Launch System (ALS) baseline vehicle. The same STME development program ground rules and time schedule were assumed for the IPM. However, the unique advantages of testing an integrated engine element, in terms of reduced number of hardware and number of system and reliability tests, compared to single standalone engine and MPTA, are highlighted. The potential ability of the IPM to meet the ALS program goals for robustness, operability and reliability is emphasized
Analysing a pricing policy for a home centre: A case study
One critical aspect of retailer category management is pricing the items in order to maximize total profits. To define an appropriate pricing policy, a retailer should evaluate how changes in prices of a set of items may impact their shelves or inter demands. In this setting, elasticities play a major role. In addition, a proper policy can be defined from different points of view. In this paper, estimation of a profit function and its maximization under different scenarios is used as a tool to analyze such policy. Estimation of this function is performed through a previous selection of items within a home center category. Then, an adequate AIDS model allowing calculation of elasticities is fitted. Moreover, a profit function is defined in terms of prices and demands. This functionis linearized for the following two purposes, to express it in terms of elasticities, and to maximize it more easily under the consideration of different sets of item prices defined in a convex set. Then, confidence intervals for the total and marginal profits were built to gather the randomness of demands. The results are applied to the selected items in a home center that behaves as a monopoly in the area.Fil: Maglione, Dora Silvia. Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia Austral. Bioclimatic map for the travesías (vast plains) of Mendoza province (Argentina) based on foliar phenology
The aim was to propose a bioclimatic
map of the plain of Mendoza province reflecting
the climatic differences expressed by
vegetation activity (foliar phenology) at regional
scale. The digital image of the bioclimatic
aridity index P/ETP, resulting from a previous
research on time series of NDVI images, was
recoded into bioclimatic classes. Each class
was analysed, assessing whether factors such
as soil or human activities are influencing aridity,
as expressed by vegetation. Mean annual
phenological rhythm was graphed for each
bioclimate by reconstructing the yearly NDVI
curve. Results show that humid and subhumid
classes are due to irrigation. The proposed
map presents five classes: subdesert (8.4%),
lower arid (15.3%), upper arid (24.2%), lower
semiarid (25%) and upper semiarid (27.1%).
Each climatic class has a different expression
of vegetation activity under natural conditions,
all year long. The phenological rhythm shows
that aridity reduces the contrast between
minimum and maximum NDVI and that time
of maximal vegetation cover varies from
January, under semiarid climate, to April, in
subdesert climate. This proposal allows enhancement
and optimization of meteorological
data throughout the whole plain by means of
vegetation phenology.Fil: González Loyarte, María Margarita.
