Conserved quantities for a charged rotating black holes in 5D Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory

Indexación: Scopus. In this work, we compute the conserved quantities of a charged rotating black hole which appears as the solution of Einstein-Maxwell action in five dimensions coupled to a Chern-Simons term for U(1) field. The addition of the Chern-Simons term will modify the Maxwell equations and the definition of charge but not the Einstein field equations. Upon the addition of suitable boundary terms for the pure gravity sector of the theory, which depend on the extrinsic and intrinsic curvatures (Kounterterms), we obtain the correct conserved quantities of the solution. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.We thank Giorgos Anastasiou and David Rivera-Betancour for insightful discussions. Transient lateral photovoltaic effect in patterned metal-oxide-semiconductor films

The time dependent transient lateral photovoltaic effect has been studied with us time resolution and with chopping frequencies in the kHz range, in lithographically patterned 21 nm thick, 5, 10 and 20 um wide and 1500 um long Co lines grown over naturally passivated p-type Si (100). We have observed a nearly linear dependence of the transitorial response with the laser spot position. A transitorial response with a sign change in the laser-off stage has been corroborated by numerical simulations. A qualitative explanation suggests a modification of the drift-diffusion model by including the in uence of a local inductance. Our findings indicate that the microstructuring of position sensitive detectors could improve their space-time resolution.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Renormalization Group and Grand Unification with 331 Models

By making a renormalization group analysis we explore the possibility of having a 331 model as the only intermediate gauge group between the standard model and the scale of unification of the three coupling constants. We shall assume that there is no necessarily a group of grand unification at the scale of convergence of the couplings. With this scenario, different 331 models and their corresponding supersymmetric versions are considered, and we find the versions that allow the symmetry breaking described above. Besides, the allowed interval for the 331 symmetry breaking scale, and the behavior of the running coupling constants are obtained. It worths saying that some of the supersymmetric scenarios could be natural frameworks for split supersymmetry. Finally, we look for possible 331 models with a simple group at the grand unification scale, that could fit the symmetry breaking scheme described above.Comment: 18 pages. 3 figures. Analysis of CMB maps with 2D wavelets

We consider the 2D wavelet transform with two scales to study sky maps of temperature anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB). We apply this technique to simulated maps of small sky patches of size 12.8 \times 12.8 square degrees and 1.5' \times 1.5' pixels. The relation to the standard approach, based on the cl's is established through the introduction of the scalogram. We consider temperature fluctuations derived from standard, open and flat-Lambda CDM models. We analyze CMB anisotropies maps plus uncorrelated Gaussian noise (uniform and non-uniform) at idfferent S/N levels. We explore in detail the denoising of such maps and compare the results with other techniques already proposed in the literature. Wavelet methods provide a good reconstruction of the image and power spectrum. Moreover, they are faster than previously proposed methods.Comment: latex file 7 pages + 5 postscript files + 1 gif file; accepted for publication in A&A

Giant Gastroduodenal Duplication Cyst with Juxta-Pancreatic Communication

    Get PDF
Enteric duplication cysts are rare congenital malformations with a low incidence and there are only a few reports in the literature. Their clinical presentation varies according to the location and the type of duplication. T heir overall prognosis is good if early surgical intervention is provided. We report a 2-month-old boy who presented with a case of a giant gastroduodenal duplication cyst with a juxta-pancreatic communication and was successfully treated surgically. It is imperative to be aware of this rare congenital malformation that can present clinically with a wide range of non-specific symptoms that can cause significant morbidity and mortality if the treatment is delayed
