    Preparation, investigation and studying the (physical, spectral and biological activity) of new monomers and heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen and oxygen

    This study involves the preparation of seven new compounds, some of them contain two functional groups that are considered condensation monomers. On the other hand, other compounds contain double bonds that are considered addition monomers. They started from 2- amino Thiazole with 2-hydroxy benzaldehyde (salicylaldehyde) in ethanol and hydrochloric acid to prepare azo compound (A), which reacted with acetophenone derivatives (p-bromo, p-chloro and p-hydroxy acetophenone) to prepare chalcone monomers derivatives (H1-H3). Also, the work includes preparing seven-membered heterocyclic rings through two consecutive steps; the first step includes the preparation of Schiff base compound (S). The second step includes the preparation of the oxazepine derivatives (Z1, Z2) through the cyclic closure of compound (S) with the (maleic, phthalic) anhydrides, respectively. All compounds were investigated with FT-IR, H1NMR, and 13CNMR techniques. The physical properties and the antibacterial activity were also studied for all the prepared compounds and showed good results

    In vitro regeneration of adult trees of Bambusa vulgaris

    We developed procedures for the regeneration of Bambusa vulgaris using nodal segments from adult plants. Optimal shoot growth was after 16 days cultivation on modified Murashige and Skoog (MMS) medium supplemented with 2 mg/l of BAP. Elongated shoots of B. vulgaris rooted (45.85%) when cultured in MMS + 20 mg/l IBA. The rooted and acclimated shoots were successfully transferred into the field with 100% of plantlets survival

    Benefits, challenges and success factors of water safety plan implementation: A review

    Drinking water supply is a preeminent to public health, environmental protection, quality of life, economic activity, and sustainable development. Many disasters are being recorded due to poor water quality every day. In this case, it is essential to assure safe water demand through continuous enhancement and improvement of all practices and processes related to the water supply. The Water Safety Plan (WSP) concept has become a globally recognized and accepted approach to drinking water supply management and operation. This study aims at reviewing the WSP as a risk management approach and the implementation status around the world. In addition, the four success factors of WSP implementation are discussed. The benefits, difficulties, as well as recommendation from recent studies that implemented WSP is presented. The benefits include Improved operational efficiency, improved water quality, reduced consumers, reduced production cost and reduced potential hazardous incidents. However, the main difficulties for effective WSP implementation were lack of staff training, insufficient time and fund were the main challenges. According to a literature scan, the water utilities in Arab gulf region countries do not implement WSP, thus, the author encourages water utilities in these countries to conduct WSP to improve water quality management. © 2022 Global NEST

    Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui Gambaran kemampuan literasi informasi dan pengaruh penerapan metode pembelajaran diskusi berbasis pro kontra dan lottery card terhadap kemampuan literasi informasi mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Kimia FKIP Universitas Tadulako. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu (quasy experiment). Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester IV prodi pendidikan kimia tahun akademik 2019/2020 sebanyak 86 orang. Sampel penelitian dipilih menggunakan teknik random class dan terpilih dua kelas dengan jumlah 62 orang.  Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah angket literasi informasi. Teknik analisis data yang terdiri dari analisis statistik deskriptif untuk mendeskripsikan karakteristik distribusi nilai kemampuan literasi informasi mahasiswa dan analisis statistik inferensial untuk menguji hipotesis penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Kemampuan literasi informasi mahasiswa prodi pendidikan Kimia FKIP Untad berada pada kategori  sedang,  2) Ada pengaruh metode pembelajaran diskusi berbasis pro kontra dan lottery card terhadap kemampuan literasi informasi mahasisw
