Extracting Touristic Information from Online Image Collections
In this paper, we present a Geographical
Information Retrieval system, which aims to automatically
extract and analyze touristic information from photos of
online image collections (in our case of study Flickr). Our
system collect all the photos, and the related information,
that are associated to a specific city. We then use Google
Maps service to geolocate the retrieved photos, and finally
we analyze geo-referenced data to obtain our goals: 1)
determining and locating the most interesting places of the
city, i.e. the most visited locations, and 2) reconstructing
touristic routes of the users visiting the city. Information is
filtered by using a set of constraints, which we apply to select
only the users that reasonably are tourists visiting the city.
Tests were performed on an Italian city, Palermo, that is rich
in artistic and touristic attractions, but preliminary tests
showed that our technique could successfully be applied to
any city in the world with a reasonable number of touristic
landmarks
Efficiency Enhancement of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drives by on-Line Loss Minimization Approaches
In this paper, a new loss minimization control algorithm for inverter-fed permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), which allows for the reduction of the power losses of the electric drive without penalty on its dynamic performance, is analyzed, experimentally realized, and validated. In particular, after a brief recounting of two loss minimization control strategies, namely, the "search control" and the "loss-model control," both a new modified dynamic model of the PMSM (which takes into account the iron losses) and an innovative "loss-model" control strategy are presented. Experimental tests on a specific PMSM drive employing the proposed loss minimization algorithm have been performed, aiming to validate the actual implementation. The main results of these tests confirm that the dynamic performance of the drive is maintained, and in small motors enhancement up to 3.5% of the efficiency can be reached in comparison with the PMSM drive equipped with a more traditional control strategy
L\u2019utilizzo dei farmaci analgesici oppiacei per il trattamento del dolore in Italia: un\u2019analisi empirica
The International association for the study of pain and the World medical association stated
that receiving a fair treatment of pain is a right of each individual. Moderate or high intensity cases of
pain are treated with opiates. In Italy, in 2010, a new legislation has been issued, one of the most advanced
on the topic of the treatment of pain and the usage of opiates. Although the legislative progresses,
the consumption of opiates is not so common and ranks far behind the other European countries. The
analysis of the spread of opiates in the treatment of pain pointed out relevant differences in terms of gender,
age, region, cancer, type of opioid prescribed. It should then take action to make consistent use of
opiates in pain therapy, focusing in particular on cancer patients and territorial differences. The analysis
of religiosity as a potential barrier to pain management and opiates usage allowed us to conclude, however,
that it is a factor that influences the number of prescriptions of opiates, even if the moderate effect.
Public policies should respect personal choices (also religious ones), but it is important broadcasting
some appropriate information campaigns which allow to make independent and informed choices.
Key words. Opioids, pain, religiosity.

Prospective double-blind randomised controlled trial protocol comparing bone marrow aspirate concentrate intra-articular injection combined with subchondral injection versus intra-articular injection alone for the treatment of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis
Introduction: Subchondral and intra-articular injections of bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) showed promising results for knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. To date, there is no evidence to demonstrate whether the combination of these treatments provides higher benefits than the intra-articular injection alone. Methods and analysis: Eighty-six patients with symptomatic knee OA (aged between 40 and 70 years) are randomised to BMAC intra-articular injection combined with subchondral BMAC injection or BMAC intra-articular injection alone in a ratio of 1:1. The primary outcome is the total Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, the secondary outcomes are the International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective and Objective Knee Evaluation Form, the Tegner activity scale, the EuroQol-Visual Analogue Scale, and the health questionnaire European Quality of Life Five Dimension score. Additional CT and MRI evaluations are performed at the baseline assessment and at the final 12-month follow-up. The hypothesis is that the combined injections provide higher knee pain and function improvement compared with BMAC intra-articular injection alone. The primary analysis follows an intention to treat principle. Ethics and dissemination: The study protocol has been approved by the Emilia Wide Area Ethical Committee of the Emilia-Romagna Region (CE-AVEC), Bologna, Italy. Written informed consent is obtained from all the participants. Findings of this study will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Protocol version: Version 1 (14 May 2018). Trial registration number: NCT03876795

We announce here the draft genome sequence of Pseudomonas sp. strain EpS/L25, isolated from the stem/leaves of the medicinal plant Echinacea purpurea This genome will allow for comparative genomics in order to identify genes associated with the production of bioactive compounds and antibiotic resistance
Involvement of GTA protein NC2β in Neuroblastoma pathogenesis suggests that it physiologically participates in the regulation of cell proliferation

Abstract

Background

The General Transcription Apparatus (GTA) comprises more than one hundred proteins, including RNA Polymerases, GTFs, TAFs, Mediator, and cofactors such as heterodimeric NC2. This complexity contrasts with the simple mechanical role that these proteins are believed to perform and suggests a still uncharacterized participation to important biological functions, such as the control of cell proliferation.

Results

To verify our hypothesis, we analyzed the involvement in Neuroblastoma (NB) pathogenesis of GTA genes localized at 1p, one of NB critical regions: through RT-PCR of fifty eight NB biopsies, we demonstrated the statistically significant reduction of the mRNA for NC2β (localized at 1p22.1) in 74% of samples (p = 0.0039). Transcripts from TAF13 and TAF12 (mapping at 1p13.3 and 1p35.3, respectively) were also reduced, whereas we didn't detect any quantitative alteration of the mRNAs from GTF2B and NC2α (localized at 1p22-p21 and 11q13.3, respectively). We confirmed these data by comparing tumour and constitutional DNA: most NB samples with diminished levels of NC2β mRNA had also genomic deletions at the corresponding locus.

Conclusion

Our data show that NC2β is specifically involved in NB pathogenesis and may be considered a new NB biomarker: accordingly, we suggest that NC2β, and possibly other GTA members, are physiologically involved in the control of cell proliferation. Finally, our studies unearth complex selective mechanisms within NB cells.</p
Sutureless and rapid deployment implantation in bicuspid aortic valve: results from the sutureless and rapid-deployment aortic valve replacement international registry.
Background
Benefits of sutureless and rapid deployment (SURD) bioprostheses in bicuspid aortic valves (BAV) are controversial. The aim of this study is to report the outcomes of patients undergoing aortic valve replacement (AVR) for BAV from the Sutureless and Rapid-Deployment Aortic Valve Replacement International Registry (SURD-IR).
Methods
Of the 4,636 patients who received primary isolated SURD-AVR between 2007 and 2018, 191 (4.1%) BAV patients underwent AVR with SURD valve.
Results
Overall 30-day mortality was 1.6%. The Intuity valve was implanted in 53.9% of cases, whereas the Perceval was implanted in 46.1%. Rate of stroke for isolated AVR was 4.2%. No case of endocarditis, thromboembolism, myocardial infarction, valve dislocation or structural valve deterioration was reported in the early phase. Rate of pacemaker implantation and moderate-severe aortic regurgitation (AR) were 7.9% and 3.7%, respectively.
Conclusions
BAV is not considered a contraindication for the implantation of SURD valves. However, detailed information of aortic root geometry as well as the knowledge of some technical considerations are mandatory for a good outcome
