Industrialization and De-industrialization in Indonesia 1983-2008: a Kaldorian Approach

Economists have for a long time discussed the causes of economic growth and the mechanisms behind it. Kaldor viewed advanced economies as having a dual nature verysimilar to that of developing countries, with an agricultural sector with low productivity and surplus labour, and a capital intensive industrial sector characterized by rapid technical change and increasing returns. The transfer of labour resources from the agricultural sector to the industrial sector depends on the growth of the latter's derived demand for labour. With this background this study attempts to show the periods when the Indonesian economy indicated the processes of industrialization and deindustrialization. Italso attempts to identify whether the economy experienced positive deindustrialization (i.e., showed signs of economic maturity where service sector substituted the role of industrial sector as the engine of growth) or negative deindustrialization (i.e., showed signs of economic stagnancy where industrial sector could not grow rapidly enough to absorb surplus labour from agricultural sector). Lastly, this study attemps to analyze several factors that might be responsible for the process of the deindustrialization

Effect of Radiation Dose and Foaming Agent Concentration Onto Synthesis and Characteristic of Superabsorbent Polyacrilamide-sodium Carboxy Methyl Celulose Copolymer Hydrogel

Effect of radiation dose and foaming agent concentration onto synthesis and characteristic of superabsorbent hydrogel based on copolymer of polyacrylamide and sodium carboxyl methyl Cellulose (PAAm-co-CMCNa ) was studied. In order to improve the swelling ratio of PAAm-co-CMCNa hydrogel sodiumbicarbonate (NaHCO3) was added, due to its capability to form pores in the polymer matrix. The concentration of acrylamide (AAm) and sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose (CMCNa) used were 7.5 % and 3 % respectively while the concentration of NaHCO3 used was 1, 2 and 3 %. Samples were irradiated at irradiation dose of 15, 20, 25 and 30 kGy with a dose rate of 10 kGy/hours. Hydrogel PAAm-co-CMCNa was examined for several items such as physical appearance, gel fraction, effects of immersion time and temperature on the swelling ratio, as well as the equilibrium degree swelling (EDS). The functional groups were characterized by using infrared spectrophotometer (FT-IR). FT-IR analysis of PAAm-co-CMCNa showed an appearance of new peaks appeared at wave numbers of 3643 and 1782 cm-1 which belong to N-H group of NH2 and C=O group respectively. Whereas the intensity of wave number 1606 cm-1 which belong to C=C group decreased, due to the occurrence of crosslinking between C=C group of AAm with CMCNa. The hydrogel characterization results also showed that the optimum irradiation dosage was 30 kGy with a concentration of NaHCO3 was 3 %. The EDS value was obtained at 240th minutes. The PAAm-co-CMCNa hydrogel had a high swelling ratio with increasing temperature from 27 °C to 50 °C

The Height of bikers are not supported by supporting bicycle facilities. This matter causes the bikers to be uncomfortable and unsafe. To face the condition, the local government of Pekalongan regency should give more attention to the bikers' need. Thus, the bikers' comfort and safety can increase, so the quantity of the bikers will increase as well. This study aims to analyze bicycle using characteristics in Medono village. The writer of this study uses descriptive qualitative research method. The writer analyzes the primary data and the secondary data by making frequency distribution table. Besides that, those all data are collected by conducting an observation and by distributing questionnaires to some samples. The samples are the local residents of Medono village who use bicycle as their main daily transportation. Meanwhile, the samples are taken by using Simple Random Sampling Technique. In addition, the writer uses Taro Yamane (Slovin) to determine the sample measure. The result of this study shows that there are bicycle using characteristics in Medono village that are identified by the writer. The identified hypothesis shows that the characteristics of bicycle using in Medono village are: 1) the majority of the bikers are 19-27 years - old - male residents who work as laborers; 2) the majority of the bikers' trip destination is working trip; 3) the bikers' speed is around 15 km/hours to take short mileage (≤2,5 km) in <10 minutes. Then, after knowing the description and the result of this study, the writer hopes that this study can become a recommendation for transportation policies that lead to sustainable transportation materialization of bicycle using as a pro-environmental transportation
