    Tablica u nastavi povijesti

    Get PDF

The Relationship between Change of Direction Speed in the Frontal Plane, Power, Reactive Strength, and Strength

International Journal of Exercise Science 7(4) : 260-270, 2014. Change-of-direction speed (CODS) is an important quality to performance in multi-direction sports. The relationship between CODS in the frontal plane and power, strength, and reactive strength is largely unstudied. Twenty-three male college students participated in this study. The study used a Pearson’s product-moment correlation to measure the relationship between CODS, power, strength, and reactive strength. A lateral shuffle test was used as the measure of CODS. A lateral hop for distance was used as the measure of power in the frontal plane. A countermovement vertical jump test was used as the measure of power in the sagittal plane. A depth jump was used as the measure of reactive strength in the sagittal plane. A 3RM squat test was used as the measure of strength. There was a moderate relationship between the lateral shuffle test and the lateral hop (r =.541, p = .008 and r =.567, p = .005), but no significant relationships with the countermovement vertical jump, depth jump, or squat test. These results suggest that power should be trained in all planes to improve CODS performance in multi-direction sports, and that CODS should be trained in its sport-specific context

The SGS-LTER research site was established in 1980 by researchers at Colorado State University as part of a network of long-term research sites within the US LTER Network, supported by the National Science Foundation. Scientists within the Natural Resource Ecology Lab, Department of Forest and Rangeland Stewardship, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, and Biology Department at CSU, California State Fullerton, USDA Agricultural Research Service, University of Northern Colorado, and the University of Wyoming, among others, have contributed to our understanding of the structure and functions of the shortgrass steppe and other diverse ecosystems across the network while maintaining a common mission and sharing expertise, data and infrastructure.Includes bibliographical references.Soil mounds around burrows are natural disturbances in plant communities where prairie dogs (Cynomys spp.) occur. We hypothesized that one or more sub-dominant plant species are more abundant on black-tailed prairie dog (C. ludovicianus) mounds than on inter-mound areas or off-prairie-dog-town areas, and that soil mixing results in enhanced N-mineralization which increases N-content of plants growing on mounds. During summer 2000, we measured plant cover and biomass by species in on-mound, inter-mound, and off-town plots on three active prairie dog towns in each Texas, Colorado, and Montana. In Montana and Colorado, Solanum triflorum was found only on mounds, and Sphaeralcea coccinea was more frequent on prairie dog mounds than on inter-mound and off-town areas. In Texas, Achillea millefolium and Amaranthus blitoides was found only on prairie dog mounds, and Hoffmanseggia glauca was more frequent on mounds than on inter-mound and off-town areas. Biomass of grasses increased from on-mound to off-town sites while biomass of most forbs decreased. Plant nitrogen concentration showed a general decline from mounds to off-town areas. These findings support the hypothesis that soil disturbance caused by C. ludovicianus during construction and maintenance of their mounds contributes to plant species diversity and enhanced N-mineralization in grasslands

Countribution to biography and bibliography of Stjepan Srkulj

The Museum of Slavonia holds 15 librarian items by Stjepan Srkulja (1869 – 1951), mostly textbook literature. Nowadays his name is referred to textbook literature. He wrote textbooks in almost all state boundaries that he had lived in. They are are a striking example of history policy. He was a secondary school teacher in Zagreb, a long-term editor of the Teaching journal and the president of the Croatian secondary school teacher association. His bibliography comprises over 60 titles. Besides being professionally active he was also politically active – a mayor of Zagreb in some crucial periods of Croatian history (1917 - 1919 and 1928 - 1932), one of the leading persons of Croatian community, a minister in governments of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Some inhabitants of Zagreb put him in connection with the Dolac market, once a pride of Zagreb, but at the same time not a single street in Zagreb is named after him. All these facts arise interest in Stjepan Srkulja, moreover there are very few data about him in literature (and the Internet) akthough such a person undoubtedly deserves to be historiographically evaluated. This paper attempts to add a contribution to some future research on Stjepan Srkulja in a trial to reconstruct his biography on a basis of already published information

Cooperation between Museum (Of Slavonia) and Science

Starting from the premises of G.E. Lessing in the discussion “Laokoon or on the boundaries of fine arts and poetry” and mapping them to science and museology, the author of the presentation provides the basis for cooperation between museums and scientists starting from the Museum of Slavonia, a museum with the most diverse collection in Croatia, the largest museum library in Croatia and a long tradition of professional - scientific publishing, which provides a large space for scientific work

Observations of cattle use of prairie dog towns

Abstract in English and Spanish.Includes bibliographical references (pages 416-417).We investigated the use of prairie dog towns by cattle (Bos taurus) on the shortgrass steppe of northeastern Colorado by conducting surveys of cattle and vegetation from June to August 1999. Cattle presence and behavior were recorded 3 times a week during driving surveys of 15 black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) towns. A subset of 3 pastures with prairie dog towns was intensively surveyed twice weekly wherein the habitat and activity of a randomly chosen focal animal was recorded every 6 minutes for 3.5 hours. Bite and step counts of other individuals were recorded for 5-minute intervals. Vegetation height and cover data were collected monthly on each of 6 habitats. Results from driving surveys and intensively surveyed pastures were similar; cattle neither significantly preferred nor avoided prairie dog towns. Bare ground cover on prairie dog towns did not significantly differ from most other habitats, but vegetation on prairie dog towns was significantly shorter on (mean = 6.7 cm) than that off (mean = 11.9 cm) prairie dog towns. Nevertheless, foraging observations indicated that there was no significant difference between cattle foraging rates on swales (70.9 bites/min) and prairie dog towns (69.5 bites/min). Thus, cattle on the shortgrass steppe appear to use prairie dog towns in proportion to their availability and, while there, they graze as intensively as they do on habitats not inhabited by prairie dogs
