Accurate estimations of circumstellar and interstellar lines of quadruply ionized vanadium using the coupled cluster approach

Accurate {\it ab initio} calculations have been carried out to study the valence electron removal energies and oscillator strengths of astrophysically important electromagnetic transitions of quadruply ionized vanadium, V4+V^{4+}. Many important electron correlations are considered to all-orders using the relativistic coupled-cluster theory. Calculated ionization potentials and fine structure splittings are compared with the experimental values, wherever available. To our knowledge, oscillator strengths of electric dipole transitions are predicted for the first time for most of the transitions. The transitions span in the range of ultraviolet, visible and near infrared regions and are important for astrophysical observations.Comment: Submitted in Astrophysical

Thermal stresses in functionally graded hollow sphere due to non-uniform internal heat generation

    Get PDF
In this article, the thermal stresses in a hollow thick sphere of functionally graded material subjected to non-uniform internal heat generation are obtained as a function of radius to an exact solution by using the theory of elasticity. Material properties and heat generation are assumed as a function of radius of sphere and Poisson’s ratio as constant. The distribution of thermal stresses for different values of the powers of the module of elasticity and varying power law index of heat generation is studied. The results are illustrated numerically and graphically

Abruptio placentae: impact of early treatment on maternal and fetal outcomes

    Get PDF
Background: Haemorrhage is the leading cause for maternal mortality in India as well as the world. Abruptio placenta is the second most common cause of antepartum haemorrhage and it is associated with sudden, severe and devastating maternal and fetal complications. The main objective of this study is to study the impact of early treatment on maternal and fetal outcomes. Methods: This single center retrospective study includes all patients admitted at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, a tertiary referral hospital, diagnosed to have abruptio placenta (grade II and grade III) from 01 July 2019 to 31 December 2019. In this study a total of 48 cases were included and data regarding time duration between onset of symptoms and initiation of treatment, clinical course and maternal and fetal outcomes was noted. Results: A total of 5059 deliveries occurred over six months. The incidence of placental abruption was found to be 0.94%. Patients receiving early care (30 cases, 62.5%) were found to have significantly better maternal outcomes (p=0.006, Chi square test) as well as fetal outcomes (p=0.007, Fischer’s exact test) than patients who received delayed care (18 cases, 37.5%).Conclusions: Abruptio placentae is an obstetric emergency and early diagnosis as well as initiation of treatment plays an important role in curbing complications. Strengthening of peripheral centers, availability of multi-disciplinary approach and educating health care staff as well as patients form the cornerstones of improved maternal and fetal outcomes

Thermal stresses in an infinite body with spherical cavity due to an arbitrary heat flux on its internal boundary surface

    Get PDF
In this paper we consider an elastic infinite body with a spherical cavity subjected to a arbitrary heat flux on its internal boundary which is assumed to be traction free. The displacement and thermal stresses are obtained and results are compared using constant and time dependent heat flux. Laplace transform technique is used to obtain the temperature distribution. The mathematical model is obtained for copper material. The results are illustrated numerically and graphically

Environmental Management for Sustainable Growth in an Integrated Iron and Steel Plant

    Get PDF
The manufacture of steel involves a large number of processing which lead to complex problems of environme-ntal pollution. Coke making and sintering are two of the major areas in so far as pollution is concerned. Slag constitutes the major portion of solid wastes. Waste generation adversely affects productivity and contributes to the high cost of production. It has been shown that improving the efficiency of operation and fuel saving measures help in reducing pollution in steel plants. Utilization of slag, mill scale, sludge and dusts, safe disposal of hazardous wastes and minimization of emissions of CO, C02, 502, NOx, cyanides, volatile organic compounds (VOC), NH3, suspended particulate matters (SPM) etc, are essential steps towards environmental management

Application of RSM to optimise single locking cotton feeder for enhancing ginning efficiency of double roller gin

    Get PDF
Spike cylinder single locking cotton feeder has been developed and optimized to enhance the ginning efficiency of doubleroller (DR) gin. The feeder is developed with an aim to unlock the cotton bolls and maintain constant feeding rate of individuallocules at the ginning point of DR gin. Spike cylinder speed and cotton moisture content are optimized by using responsesurface methodology. Ginning efficiency of DR gin is improved with the use of developed feeder. Quadratic models forprediction of ginning output and specific energy and linear model for prediction of reduction in bulk density are generated byusing response surface methodology following central composite design that show excellent agreement with the experimentalvalues. Multiple response analysis shows the optimum level of moisture content (7.49%) and spike cylinder speed (317 rpm)with desirability of 0.904695 by maximizing the output and minimizing the specific energy. The ginning output, cleaningefficiency and reduction in bulk density are increased by 23.25%, 16% and 30.5% respectively, whereas the specific energy isdecreased by 12% without any adverse effect on fibre quality. Colour grade of the cotton improves from middling to strictmiddling. Thus, the developed feeder would be highly useful for cotton ginneries

Minimum days taken to emergence of flower bud (39.57), duration of flowering (24.07), days to 50% fruit set (6.54) and days taken to fruit maturity (145.90) were observed with application of GA3 50ppm + Paclobutrazol 3.5g a.i./tree (soil application) + KNO3 0.2% + Zn 0.3% + Boron 0.1% (T5), whereas, fruit drop (5.92%) was minimum with GA3 50ppm + Cycocel 2000ppm + KNO3 0.2% + Zn 0.3% + Boron 0.1% (T3). Treatment T3 also increased the number of flowers per meter length of shoot (49.65) as well as fruit yield (8.90)
