    Effect of directional solidification rate on the microstructure and properties of deformation-processed Cu-7Cr-0.1Ag in situ composites

    The influence of directional solidification rate on the microstructure, mechanical properties and conductivity of deformation-processed Cu-7Cr-0.1Ag in situ composites produced by thermo-mechanical processing was systematically investigated. The microstructure was analyzed by optical microscopy and scanning electronic microscopy. The mechanical properties and conductivity were evaluated by tensile-testing machine and micro-ohmmeter, respectively. The results indicate that the size, shape and distribution of second-phase Cr grains are significantly different in the Cu-7Cr-0.1Ag alloys with different growth rates. At a growth rate of 200 ÎĽm s-1, the Cr grains transform into fine Cr fiber-like grains parallel to the pulling direction from the Cr dendrites. The tensile strength of the Cu-7Cr-0.1Ag in situ composites from the directional solidification (DS) alloys is significantly higher than that from the as-cast alloy, while the conductivity of the in situ composites from the DS alloys is slightly lower than that from the as-cast alloy. The following combinations of tensile strength, elongation to fracture and conductivity of the Cu-7Cr-0.1Ag in situ composites from the DS alloy with a growth rate of 200 ÎĽm s-1 and a cumulative cold deformation strain of 8 after isochronic aging treatment for 1 h can be obtained respectively as: (i) 1067 MPa, 2.9% and 74.9% IACS; or (ii) 1018 MPa, 3.0%, and 76.0% IACS or (iii) 906 MPa, 3.3% and 77.6% IACS

    Influence of Ag micro-alloying on the thermal stability and ageing characteristics of a Cu–14Fe in-situ composite

    This paper studied the influence of Ag micro-alloying on the thermal stability and ageing characteristics of a deformation-processed Cu–14Fe in-situ composite prepared by thermo-mechanical processing. Heat treatment caused (i) edge recession, longitudinal splitting, cylinderization, break-up and spheroidisation of the Fe fibres in the Ag micro-alloyed Cu–14Fe in-situ composite, and (ii) recovery, recrystallisation and precipitation in the Cu matrix. Ag micro-alloying caused these processes to occur at lower temperatures. The index Z (a combination figure of merit that assesses the service performance) reached the peak value of 3.3×10 MPa·% IACS after isothermal heat treatment at 500 °C for 1 h, where IACS is the International Annealed Copper Standard, a measure of conductivity. The optimum combinations of tensile strength and conductivity were 1033 MPa and 56.6% IACS; 931 MPa and 58.9% IACS; or 851 MPa and 60.6% IACS. The tensile strength and conductivity of Ag micro-alloyed Cu–14Fe in-situ composite at η=7.8 after isochronal heat treatments were higher than those of the Cu–14Fe in-situ composite at each temperature

    Symmetry guaranteed Dirac-line semimetals in two-dimensions against strong spin-orbit coupling

    Several intriguing electronic phenomena and electric properties were discovered in three-dimensional Dirac nodal line semimetals (3D-DNLSM), which are, however, easy to be perturbed under strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC). While two-dimensional (2D) layers are an emerging material category with many advantages, 2D-DNLSM against SOC is yet to be uncovered. Here, we report a 2D-DNLSM in odd-atomic-layer Bi (the brick phase, another Bi allotrope), whose robustness against SOC is protected by the little co-group C_2v \times Z^T_2, the unique protecting symmetry we found in 2D.Specially, (4n+2) valence electrons fill the electronic bands in the brick phase, so that the Dirac nodal line with fourfold degeneracy locates across the Fermi level. There are almost no other low energy states close to the Fermi level; this allows to feasibly observe the neat DNLSM-induced phenomena in transport measurements without being affected by other bands. In contrast, Other VA-group elements also form the brick phases, but their DNL states are mixed with the extra states around the Fermi level.     Cu-7Cr-0.07Ag alloys were prepared by casting and directional solidification, from which deformation-processed in situ composites were prepared by thermo-mechanical processing. The microstructure, mechanical properties, and electrical properties were investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, tensile testing, and a micro-ohmmeter. The second-phase Cr grains of the directional solidification Cu-7Cr-0.07Ag in situ composite were parallel to the drawing direction and were finer, which led to a higher tensile strength and a better combination of properties

    High prevalence of Rickettsia spp. in ticks from wild hedgehogs rather than domestic bovine in Jiangsu province, Eastern China

    BackgroundSpotted fever group Rickettsia (SFGR), containing various pathogenic Rickettsia spp., poses remarkable negative influences to public health by causing various severe or mild diseases. Information regarding prevalence of SFGR in ticks in Jiangsu province, Eastern China, is still limited and needs urgent investigations.MethodsHedgehog- and bovine-attached ticks were collected from Jiangsu province, Eastern China. DNA of individual ticks was extracted for nested polymerase chain reaction amplifications targeting gltA, 16S ribosomal RNA (rrs), ompA, ompB, and sca4 genes following with sequencing. SFGR-specific IgG antibodies in sera of local donators were evaluated using ELISA.ResultsOverall, 144 (83.2%) of the 173 ticks from hedgehogs and 2 (1.2%) of the 168 ticks from bovine were positive for one of the three identified Rickettsia spp., with significant difference between the two groups (P = 3.6e-52). Candidatus Rickettsia principis (9; 5.2%) and R. heilongjiangensis (135; 78.0%) were detected in Haemaphysalis flava rather than in H. longicornis ticks from hedgehogs. R. heilongjiangensis (1; 0.6%) and Candidatus R. jingxinensis (or Candidatus R. longicornii) (1; 0.6%) were identified in H. longicornis and Rhipicephalus microplus ticks from bovine, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis indicated Candidatus R. jingxinensis belonged to R. japonica subgroup, whereas Candidatus R. principis belonged to a novel subgroup. Higher serological prevalence of spotted fever and SFGR-specific IgG antibody level in humans were observed around the investigated area than in urban areas, without significant difference.ConclusionCandidatus R. principis and Candidatus R. jingxinensis were identified in Jiangsu province, Eastern China, and fully genetically characterized for the first time. The higher prevalence of SFGR in hedgehog-attached ticks as well as the higher SFGR-specific IgG antibody level and seropositive rate in humans around the investigated area suggested that more attention should be paid to SFGR. This pathogen is usually transmitted or harbored by wild animals and ticks. This study provides important epidemiological data for both physicians and public health officers in developing early prevention and control strategies against potential Rickettsia infections and in the preparation of suitable testing and treatment needs for rickettsiosis in the endemic areas

    Fungal diversity notes 929–1035: taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions on genera and species of fungi

    This article is the ninth in the series of Fungal Diversity Notes, where 107 taxa distributed in three phyla, nine classes, 31 orders and 57 families are described and illustrated. Taxa described in the present study include 12 new genera, 74 new species, three new combinations, two reference specimens, a re-circumscription of the epitype, and 15 records of sexualasexual morph connections, new hosts and new geographical distributions. Twelve new genera comprise Brunneofusispora, Brunneomurispora, Liua, Lonicericola, Neoeutypella, Paratrimmatostroma, Parazalerion, Proliferophorum, Pseudoastrosphaeriellopsis, Septomelanconiella, Velebitea and Vicosamyces.     Portraying the Influence Factor of Urban Vibrancy at Street Level Using Multisource Urban Data

    Exploring the factors influencing urban vibrancy can help policy development and advance urban planning and sustainable development. Previous studies have typically focused on the effects of physical environmental factors (e.g., built environment, urban landscape) on urban vibrancy, ignoring the role of non-physical environmental factors (e.g., urban psychological perceptions). In addition, these studies remain focused on relatively coarse spatial units and lack the exploration of finer-grained spatial structures. In this study, a novel framework is proposed to analyze urban vibrancy and its influencing factors at a more fine-grained street level. Firstly, two types of urban sensing data, POIs and Weibo check-ins, are integrated to portray the spatial distribution patterns of urban vibrancy on the streets. Secondly, a full convolutional network (FCN-8s) is used to segment the streetscape images of Beijing and use them as a basis to extract potential visual–spatial features and urban psychological perceptual features that influence urban vibrancy. Thirdly, we reveal the deeper causes of the impact of psychological perception on urban vibrancy. Finally, an improved ridge regression model is proposed to model the relationship between features and vibrancy, reducing the covariance between features while avoiding the reduction of important features. Satisfactory regression model performances were attained with adjusted R2 values of 0.706, 0.743, and 0.807 at each characteristic level. The results of the study show that: Urban vibrancy is highly dependent on the proposed visual–spatial and urban psychological perception characteristics at the street level. In particular, positive urban psychological perceptions (safety, lively, wealthy) are positively correlated with urban vibrancy, while negative street perceptions (boring) are negatively correlated with urban vibrancy. Unlike previous research scales, our study shows that urban vibrancy portrayal based on the street scale has a greater potential to demonstrate fine-grained vibrancy distribution compared to the neighborhood scale. These findings may provide important insights for people-oriented urban development and planning

    Effect of “through-hole” on porous aluminum alloy compressive mechanical properties

    International audienceIn accordance with preparation process of open-cell aluminum foam, a novel simplified model of pore s structure was proposed to exploit the performance of the through-holes, which connect neighboring cells, on the elastic module and compressive collapse stress of porous aluminum alloy. It is shown that the results coincide with experiments in terms of elastic module and plastic collapse stress. Stress concentration neighboring the through-hole between neighboring cells was manifested by unit cell model. On account of significant effect of through-hole’s variation on porosity, the sensitivity of mechanical properties of open-cell aluminum alloy on porosity could be explained by stress concentration on the through-hole between neighboring cells
