With the advancing technology, the hardware gain of computers and the increase in the processing capacity of processors have facilitated the processing of instantaneous and real-time images. Face recognition processes are also studies in the field of image processing. Facial recognition processes are frequently used in security applications and commercial applications. Especially in the last 20 years, the high performances of artificial intelligence (AI) studies have contributed to the spread of these studies in many different fields. Education is one of them. The potential and advantages of using AI in education; can be grouped under three headings: student, teacher, and institution. One of the institutional studies may be the security of educational environments and the contribution of automation to education and training processes. From this point of view, deep learning methods, one of the sub-branches of AI, were used in this study. For object detection from images, a pioneering study has been designed and successfully implemented to keep records of students' entrance to the educational institution and to perform class attendance with images taken from the camera using image processing algorithms. The application of the study to real-life problems will be carried out in a school determined in the 2022-2023 academic year.Comment: International LET-IN 2022 Conference Proceedings Book, October 06-08, 2022, Ankara, T\"urkiye. Objectives:The study aimed to investigate inner retinal changes in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients by comparing them with healthy controls. The study also aimed to assess regional differences of inner retinal layer involvement in eyes with and without optic neuritis (ON).Materials and Methods:This retrospective, cross-sectional study consisted of 141 eyes of 74 relapsing-remitting MS patients and 80 eyes of 40 healthy controls. The study group was separated into two subgroups according to the presence of ON history. Peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness, total macular thickness, and thicknesses of the macular retinal nerve fiber layer (mRNFL), ganglion cell layer (GCL), inner plexiform layer (IPL), and inner nuclear layer were compared between the MS and healthy control groups and between eyes with and without ON history. Results:Mean pRNFL, total macular, mRNFL, GCL, and IPL thicknesses were significantly thinner in the MS group than in the control group (p<0.001) and in eyes with ON compared to those without ON (p<0.05). Comparison of inner retinal layer thicknesses in the inner 3-mm ring subfields of the ETDRS grid revealed significant thinning in all subfields of the GCL and IPL of eyes with ON (p<0.05). The inferior subfield demonstrated the highest difference. Conclusion:The study demonstrated that GCL and IPL thinning is a robust and reliable biomarker in all MS patients. The thinning was significantly greater in eyes with ON than in eyes without ON. The study also documented that the inferior region showed significantly greater GCL and IPL thinning in eyes with previous ON attacks

In this study, effects of rice husk (RH) application on mechanical properties and cultivation of a clay textured soil were investigated with and without barley planting. A rate of 5% (w/w) rice husk as a dry weight basis was added to a clay textured soil by alone (RH) and with 5 kg N/da of ammonium sulphate (RHN) in order to increase the biological activity and the decomposition rate of rice husk in soil. Rice husk applied soils including control treatment were incubated at field capacity under greenhouse conditions for 2 months. After this period, barley was sown in a half number of the pots. All pots having barley planted and without planted were incubated together for 6 more months. Study was carried out in a factorial experimental design on barley planting and without planting pots in 3 treatments (control, RH and RHN) with 3 replications. At the end of the study, liquid limit (LL), plastic limit (PL), plasticity index (PI), consistency index (Ic), field capacity (FC), permanently wilting point (PWP) and organic matter (OM) contents of soils were determined. The highest values were determined for LL in RH+nitrogen+barley planting (RHNP), for PL in RH application without planting and for PI in control application with barley planting (CP). Barley planting increased LL and PI values of soil significantly. LL values of soils significantly correlated with PL (0.664**), PI (0.880**) and PWP (0.948**). PL values of soils significantly correlated with OM (0.699**) and PWP (0.821**). PI values of soils significantly correlated with FC (0.654**) and PWP (0.713**). Ic values gave the significant correlations with PL (0.908**), OM (0.787**), FC (-0.611**) and PWP (0.615**). Ic values in all RH treatments were higher than that in control treatments. It was concluded that clay textured soil in control treatment can have deformation when it is cultivated at the field capacity without RH application; however clay soils can be cultivated without deformation after application of RH

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and lockdown period may induce an impairment in quality of life (QoL), disruption in treatment (DIT), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in chronic neurological diseases (CNDs). To reach this information, a multicenter, cross-sectional study (COVQoL-CND) was planned. Parkinson's disease (PD), headache (HA), multiple sclerosis (MS), epilepsy (EP), polyneuropathy (PNP), and cerebrovascular disease (CVD) were selected as the CND. Methods: The COVQoL-CND study includes demographic data, the World Health Organization Quality of Life short form (WHOQOL-BREF), and Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) forms. Results: The mean age of a total of 577 patients was 49 +/- 17 (19-87 years), and the ratio of female/male was 352/225. The mean age of patients with PD, HA, MS, EP, PNP, and CVD were 65 +/- 11, 39 +/- 12, 38 +/- 10, 47 +/- 17, 61 +/- 12, and 60 +/- 15 years, respectively. The IES-R scores were found to be higher in the younger group, those with comorbid disease, contacted with CO-VID-19 patients, or diagnosed with COVID-19. In the group with a high IES-R score, the rate of DIT was found to be high. IES-R scores were negatively correlated with QoL. IES-R total scores were found highest in the CVD group and lowest in the PD group. The ratio of DIT was found highest in the PNP group and the lowest in the EP group. Contact with CO-VID-19 patients was high in the EP and HA group. Conclusions: The results of the COVQoL-CND study showed that lockdown causes posttraumatic stress and deterioration in the QoL in CND

Background: The speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) method shows the presence of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction before the advent of RV failure and pulmonary hypertension in patients with cardiopulmonary disease. We aimed to assess subclinical RV dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using the STE method. Method: Twenty-one healthy individuals and 58 OSA patients were included. According to severity as determined by the apnea–hypopnea index (AHI), OSA patients were examined in three groups: mild, moderate and severe. RV free wall was used in STE examination. Results: Right ventricle strain (ST %) and systolic strain rate (STR-S 1/s) were decreasing along with the disease severity (ST — healthy: –34.05 ± –4.29; mild: –31.4 ± –5.37; moderate: –22.75 ± –4.89; severe: –20.89 ± –5.59; p < 0.003; STR-S — healthy: –2.93 ± –0.64; mild: –2.85 ± –0.73; moderate: –2.06 ± –0.43; severe: –1.43 ± –0.33; p < 0.03). Correlated with the disease severity, the RV early diastolic strain rate (STR-E) was decreasing and the late diastolic strain rate was increasing (STR-E — healthy: 2.38 ± 0.63; mild: 2.32 ± 0.84; moderate: 1.66 ± 0.55; severe: 1 ± 0.54; p < 0.003; STR-A — healthy: 2.25 ± 0.33; mild: 2.32 ± 0.54; moderate: 2.79 ± 0.66; severe: 3.29 ± 0.54; p < 0.03). The STR-E/A ratio was found to be in a decreasing trend along with the disease severity (healthy: 1.08 ± 0.34; mild: 1.06 ± 0.46; moderate: 0.62 ± 0.22; severe: 0.34 ± 0.23; p < 0.03). Conclusions: Subclinical RV dysfunction can be established in OSA patients even in the absence of pulmonary hypertension and pathologies which could have adverse effects on RV functions. In addition to the methods of conventional, Doppler and tissue Doppler echocardiography, using the STE method can determine RV dysfunction in the subclinical phase.
