    Extended Fermi coordinates

We extend the notion of Fermi coordinates to a generalized definition in which the highest orders are described by arbitrary functions. From this definition rises a formalism that naturally gives coordinate transformation formulae. Some examples are developped in which the extended Fermi coordinates simplify the metric components.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figur

    Analytical time-like geodesics

Time-like orbits in Schwarzschild space-time are presented and classified in a very transparent and straightforward way into four types. The analytical solutions to orbit, time, and proper time equations are given for all orbit types in the form r=r(\lambda), t=t(\chi), and \tau=\tau(\chi), where \lambda\ is the true anomaly and \chi\ is a parameter along the orbit. A very simple relation between \lambda\ and \chi\ is also shown. These solutions are very useful for modeling temporal evolution of transient phenomena near black holes since they are expressed with Jacobi elliptic functions and elliptic integrals, which can be calculated very efficiently and accurately.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, accepted by General Relativity and Gravitatio

Relativistic positioning: four-dimensional numerical approach in Minkowski space-time

We simulate the satellite constellations of two Global Navigation Satellite Systems: Galileo (EU) and GPS (USA). Satellite motions are described in the Schwarzschild space-time produced by an idealized spherically symmetric non rotating Earth. The trajectories are then circumferences centered at the same point as Earth. Photon motions are described in Minkowski space-time, where there is a well known relation, Coll, Ferrando & Morales-Lladosa (2010), between the emission and inertial coordinates of any event. Here, this relation is implemented in a numerical code, which is tested and applied. The first application is a detailed numerical four-dimensional analysis of the so-called emission coordinate region and co-region. In a second application, a GPS (Galileo) satellite is considered as the receiver and its emission coordinates are given by four Galileo (GPS) satellites. The bifurcation problem (double localization) in the positioning of the receiver satellite is then pointed out and discussed in detail.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, published (online) in Astrophys. Thiazolidinediones and ischemic stroke (literature review and reasoning for the new potential treatment approaches)

    Get PDF
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability among adult population. Many pathological events including inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis contribute to the secondary neuronal death after stroke. The goal of this review is to discuss the therapeutic potential and putative mechanisms of neuroprotective properties of thiazolidinediones (peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptors-? agonists) at ischemic stroke. Thiazolidinediones have insulin-sensitizing and other additional pleiotropic properties. Ischemic neuroprotection afforded by thiazolidinediones has been involved anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-apoptotic properties, as well as effects on endothelial function and repair. These novel actions of thiazolidinediones could offer some protection against the potentially enhanced damage of brain ischemia in patients with abdominal obesity and insulin resistance and may open new exciting lines of investigation on stroke treatment

An Overview of the 13:8 Mean Motion Resonance between Venus and Earth

It is known since the seminal study of Laskar (1989) that the inner planetary system is chaotic with respect to its orbits and even escapes are not impossible, although in time scales of billions of years. The aim of this investigation is to locate the orbits of Venus and Earth in phase space, respectively to see how close their orbits are to chaotic motion which would lead to unstable orbits for the inner planets on much shorter time scales. Therefore we did numerical experiments in different dynamical models with different initial conditions -- on one hand the couple Venus-Earth was set close to different mean motion resonances (MMR), and on the other hand Venus' orbital eccentricity (or inclination) was set to values as large as e = 0.36 (i = 40deg). The couple Venus-Earth is almost exactly in the 13:8 mean motion resonance. The stronger acting 8:5 MMR inside, and the 5:3 MMR outside the 13:8 resonance are within a small shift in the Earth's semimajor axis (only 1.5 percent). Especially Mercury is strongly affected by relatively small changes in eccentricity and/or inclination of Venus in these resonances. Even escapes for the innermost planet are possible which may happen quite rapidly.Comment: 14 pages, 11 figures, submitted to CMD

Influence of pioglitazone and atorvastatin use on adipokine profile and insulin resistance in abdominally obese patients following ischemic atherothrombotic hemispheric stroke

Effects of post-stroke intake of pioglitazone (30 mg daily) and atorvastatin (20 or 40 mg per day) for 90 days on adipokine profile and insulin resistance in abdominally obese (class 2 obesity) patients with acute ischemic atherothrombotic hemispheric stroke have been studied. Pioglitazone use was associated with significant increase in circulating adiponectin on 10th day (49.3±2.6 mg/ml vs 34.0±2.8 mg/ml in the control group, p<0.05) and on 90th day after stroke (53.8±2.2 mg/ml vs 42.5±3.8 mg/ml, respectively, p<0.05). Moreover, pioglitazone led to significant decrease in insulin resistance index HOMA-IR on 10th day (1.23±0.37 vs 2.10±0,26 in the control group, p<0.05) and on the 90th day after stroke (1.40±0.35 vs 3.06±0.45, respectively, p<0.05). Whereas, atorvastatin intake, regardless of the daily dosage, did not affect the adipokine profile and insulin resistance

The Classical Harmonic Vibrations of the Atomic Centers of Mass with Micro Amplitudes and Low Frequencies Monitored by the Entanglement between the Two Two-level Atoms in a Single mode Cavity

We study the entanglement dynamics of the two two-level atoms coupling with a single-mode polarized cavity field after incorporating the atomic centers of mass classical harmonic vibrations with micro amplitudes and low frequencies. We propose a quantitative vibrant factor to modify the concurrence of the two atoms states. When the vibrant frequencies are very low, we obtain that: (i) the factor depends on the relative vibrant displacements and the initial phases rather than the absolute amplitudes, and reduces the concurrence to three orders of magnitude; (ii) the concurrence increases with the increase of the initial phases; (iii) the frequency of the harmonic vibration can be obtained by measuring the maximal value of the concurrence during a small time. These results indicate that even the extremely weak classical harmonic vibrations can be monitored by the entanglement of quantum states.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

Nowadays doctors' training should be based on various telemedical and distant educational technologies. Telemedicine gives possibilities to solve a number of practical routine issues: doctors' consulting, various options of students and practicing physicians distance learning, research activities, etc. Distance learning is characterized with unchanged (sometimes even increased) quality, increased availability and spreading, and reduced material expenditures
