Comparative study of labetalol and nifedipine in management of non- severe preeclampsia and its fetomaternal outcome

Background: In developed countries, 16 percent of maternal deaths were attributed to hypertensive disorders. Of hypertensive disorders, the preeclampsia syndrome, either alone or superimposed on chronic hypertension, is the most dangerous. The incidence of preeclampsia in nulliparous populations ranged from 3 to 10 percent. Methods: The present study was conducted at Government Raja Mirasudhar Hospital, Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India from October 2017 to October 2018. The study consisted of 100 antenatal women with non-severe preeclampsia. The efficacy of labetalol verses nifedipine in its management was studied along with the fetomaternal outcome. Results: In this study, in the labetalol and in the nifedipine groups adequate control of blood pressure was achieved. However, labetalol was well tolerated by our women without much side effects. Conclusions: The present study indicates both labetalol and nifedipine are equally efficacious in the control of hypertension in non-severe preeclampsia. Pathology of the disease was not altered significantly in both the groups. There was no significant difference in the neonatal outcome between the two groups

Merger Control in the European Community: The EC Regulation On the Control of Concentrations Between Undertakings and Implementing Guidelines

    Get PDF
The European Community (EC) is currently adopting comprehensive new legislation within the framework of its internal market program, which is expected to transform the way business is conducted in the EC. By December 1992, the Community should be well on its way to becoming an integrated economy, with about 320 million consumers. Not surprisingly, the number of mergers and acquisitions in the EC across national boundaries is increasing in response to the prospects of a larger consumer base and greater market opportunities. The new EC Regulation On the Control of Concentrations Between Undertakings is one element of the EC\u27s ambitious program. It represents the European Community\u27s first attempt to establish a trans-national systematic merger control system and is intended to become the cornerstone of the EC\u27s competition policy

Kerr Black Holes are Not Unique to General Relativity

Considerable attention has recently focused on gravity theories obtained by extending general relativity with additional scalar, vector, or tensor degrees of freedom. In this paper, we show that the black-hole solutions of these theories are essentially indistinguishable from those of general relativity. Thus, we conclude that a potential observational verification of the Kerr metric around an astrophysical black hole cannot, in and of itself, be used to distinguish between these theories. On the other hand, it remains true that detection of deviations from the Kerr metric will signify the need for a major change in our understanding of gravitational physics.Comment: 4 pages, Physical Review Letters in pres

Effect of interfacial oxidation occurring during the duplex process combining surface nanocrystallisation and co-rolling

International audienceThis paper presents an investigation of the interface quality of nanocristallised 316L stainless steel multilayer structures. They were produced by a duplex process, combining the Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment (SMAT) and the co-rolling process at two different annealing temperatures (550°C and 650°C). Oxide layers were observed at the interfaces between the sheets and their morphology was characterised by optical microscopy. Their chemical composition was determined by Energy Dispersive X-ray spectrometry. The microstructure near the interfaces was analysed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). In the laminate co-rolled at 550°C, the presence of ultrafine grains was demonstrated. Additional tensile tests have shown an influence of the annealing temperature on the yield strength, as well as on the resistance of the interfaces of the co-rolled multilayer structures
