Perceptions of fairness in the psychological contracts of allied health professionals
Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationships between components of the psychological contract, organisational justice, and negative affectivity (NA), with key employee outcomes (i.e. organisational commitment, job satisfaction, depression, and psychological distress) among allied health professionals. Design/methodology/approach-In total, 134 (response rate of 46 per cent) Australian allied health professional completed a questionnaire. Findings-Multiple regressions revealed that higher NA was associated with lower organisational commitment, lower job satisfaction, and higher levels of depression. The psychological contract variable, breach, was associated with depression. Informational justice was associated with organisational commitment. Distributive justice was associated with job satisfaction. Research limitations/implications-This research is limited by its cross-sectional design and that the data were self-reported. The results obtained suggest the potential utility of collecting longitudinal data to replicate and extend the results. Practical implications-While NA may be beyond management control, it may be ameliorated by attention to improving communication of management decisions and by sensitivity to the elements implicit in psychological contracts. The negative consequences of contract breach may be offset by informational and distributive justice. Originality/value-This study is one of the first to examine multiple measures of the psychological contract in addition to organisational justice and NA. Further, this study adds to the literature for allied health professionals, where little is known about factors contributing to their turnover

O trabalho versa sobre os aspectos jurídicos da Auditoria Ambiental. Primeiramente serão expostos os eventos históricos que motivaram a criação e normatização da Auditoria Ambiental como instrumento de gestão ambiental; após, será analisada a relação entre a auditoria e a administração responsável e sustentável de empreendimentos, bem como os seus principais instrumentos, aplicações, benefícios e custos. Vez que finalizada a fixação dos pontos básicos e conceituais do trabalho, o presente estudo deve analisar com maior profundidade os aspectos jurídicos da Auditoria Ambiental, a relação com o meio ambiente e o seu desenvolvimento no Brasil. Por fim, a conclusão do trabalho pretende expor as razões da problemática que motiva a necessidade dos instrumentos de gestão ambiental e uma posição justificada acerca da questãoThe work deals with the legal aspects of the Environmental Due Diligence. First, it will be exposed the historical events that led to the creation of the Environmental Due Diligence as a tool for environmental management. Then, it will be analyzed the link between the due diligence and the sustainable administration of enterprises, as well as its main tools, applications, benefits and costs. Once finished the basics and concepts of the research, this study should examine in greater depth the legal aspects of the Environmental Due diligence and it’s relation with the environment development in Brazil. Obesity is associated with increased risk of Crohn's disease, but not ulcerative colitis: A pooled analysis of five prospective cohort studies
Background and Aims: It is unclear whether obesity is associated with the development of inflammatory bowel disease despite compelling data from basic science studies. We therefore examined the association between obesity and risk of Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Methods: We conducted pooled analyses of 5 prospective cohorts with validated anthropometric measurements for body mass index (BMI) and waist-hip ratio and other lifestyle factors. Diagnoses of CD and UC were confirmed through medical records or ascertained using validated definitions. We used Cox proportional hazards modeling to calculate pooled multivariable-adjusted HRs (aHRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Among 601,009 participants (age range, 18-98 years) with 10,110,018 person-years of follow-up, we confirmed 563 incident cases of CD and 1047 incident cases of UC. Obesity (baseline BMI ≥30 kg/m 2) was associated with an increased risk of CD (pooled aHR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.05-1.71, I 2 = 0%) compared with normal BMI (18.5 to <25 kg/m 2). Each 5 kg/m 2 increment in baseline BMI was associated with a 16% increase in risk of CD (pooled aHR, 1.16; 95% CI, 1.05-1.22; I 2 = 0%). Similarly, with each 5 kg/m 2 increment in early adulthood BMI (age, 18-20 years), there was a 22% increase in risk of CD (pooled aHR, 1.22; 95% CI, 1.05-1.40; I 2 = 13.6%). An increase in waist-hip ratio was associated with an increased risk of CD that did not reach statistical significance (pooled aHR across quartiles, 1.08; 95% CI, 0.97-1.19; I 2 = 0%). No associations were observed between measures of obesity and risk of UC. Conclusions: In an adult population, obesity as measured by BMI was associated with an increased risk of older-onset CD but not UC
