Ferreira, Ana Cristina, e outros (2023) - International conference on technology management and operations. - Lisboa : Universidade Lusíada Editora. - ISBN 978-898-640-273-0.Experimental design approaches are essential for improving products and processes, and their use is often decisive in achieving a successful target result. Thus, mixture design is a method for designing experiments which considers that the result does not depend on the total amount but on the proportions of the components. Mixture design techniques are often applied to problems in food, beverage, pharmaceutical health, and cement-based materials, among others, and one may also use them to help solve multi-objective problems when the weights of the objective function components can interfere with the optimization process. Therefore, given the relevance of studies on mixture planning and the increasing use of methods and techniques to consider uncertainty, the objective of this study is to propose an approach to deal with uncertainties in the coefficients of polynomial objective functions for the optimization of mixture design problem considering optimization via Monte Carlo Simulation. Computational tests were made using R software with instances from a literature study on a waste paper recycling logistics problem where the assignment of model weights is part of the process. Comparing the results to those obtained using the General Algebraic Modeling System language and CPLEX solver, they showed that considering uncertainty in the coefficients of objective function assisted in minimizing the difference between the obtained results, allowing for improvement in the representation of several scenarios. The developed approach also provided solution possibilities to help choose the best weights to optimize goal programming problems

This is the peer-reviewed version of the following article: ‘Captagon: Use and Trade in the Middle East’, which has been published in final form at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/hup.2548/abstract . This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Wiley Terms and Conditions for Self-Archiving.Fenetheylline, a psychostimulant drug, often branded as Captagon, is a combination of amphetamine and theophylline. Since the cessation of its legal production in 1986, counterfeited products have been produced illicitly in south-east Europe and far-east Asia. Its profitable trade has been linked to terrorist organizations, including Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. This study aims to reach up-to-date data, concerning the Captagon e-commerce and use in the Middle East.Peer reviewe

Venous pseudo-aneurysm as a late complication of short-term central venous catheterisation

Complications following central venous catheterisation abound in the medical literature. This reflects the under-estimated potential hazards associated with this procedure as well as an increase in the number of such procedures performed in high-risk patients. We report on a case where a venous pseudo-aneurysm developed four months after the removal of a short-term central venous catheter in a moderately high-risk patient

In the context of armed conflicts, logistics exerts a strong influence on the success of the first-level troops. Thus, accurate planning is required by locating the logistics structures throughout the areas of operations, ensuring that the flow of materials and services required are met in the right measure. In this way, the study of the method of Logistics Analysis, applied by the Brazilian Army in the various types of operations foreseen in its Military Doctrine, grows of importance. At the tactical level of the areas of operations, logistical bases are deployed, which will support the troops of a given Brigade. In order to select the most adequate area to unfold these bases, the decision makers use a series of factors and aspects recommended in the current Military Doctrine. In this sense, the objective of the present research was to analyze the location of a Brigade Logistics Base through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, with the processing of factors and aspects predicted in the Land Military Doctrine. To this end, a case study was carried out with specialists from the Brazilian Army, instructors of the School of Improvement of Officers, who analyzed the possible areas of deployment of logistic means to support a given operation. The obtained result showed that the AHP method was able to operationalize the demands required for decision making to choose the area most appropriate to the deployment of a BLB in support of the operation of the case study, serving, for this situation, as a tool in the decision-making.
