Like Sign Dilepton Signature for R-Parity Violating SUSY Search at the Tevatron Collider

    Get PDF
The like sign dileptons provide the most promising signature for superparticle search in a large category of RR-parity violating SUSY models. We estimate the like sign dilepton signals at the Tevatron collider, predicted by these models, over a wide region of the MSSM parameter space. One expects an unambiguous signal upto a gluino mass of 200300200 - 300 GeV (500\geq 500 GeV) with the present (proposed) accumulated luminosity of 0.1 (1) fb1\sim 0.1~(1)~{\rm fb}^{-1}.Comment: 12 page LaTeX file; 5 figures available upon request from the autho

Simulations of Time-Resolved X-Ray Diffraction in Laue Geometry

A method of computer simulation of Time-Resolved X-ray Diffraction (TRXD) in asymmetric Laue (transmission) geometry with an arbitrary propagating strain perpendicular to the crystal surface is presented. We present two case studies for possible strain generation by short-pulse laser irradiation: (i) a thermoelastic-like analytic model; (ii) a numerical model including effects of electron-hole diffusion, Auger recombination, deformation potential and thermal diffusion. A comparison with recent experimental results is also presented.Comment: 9 pages, 11 figure

Method for Flavor Tagging in Neutral B Meson Decays

A method is proposed for tagging the flavor of neutral BB mesons in the study of CP-violating decay asymmetries. The method makes use of a possible difference in interactions in BπB \pi or BπB^* \pi systems with isospins 1/2 and 3/2, and would be particularly clean if the I=1/2I = 1/2 systems can be detected as ``BB^{**}'' resonances.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Intermittency and Exotic Channels

It is pointed out that accurate measurements of short-range two-particle correlations in like-charge Kπ K\pi and in π0π0 \pi^ 0\pi^ 0 channels should be very helpful in determining the origin of the \lq\lq intermittency\rq\rq\ phenomenon observed recently for the like-charge pion pairs.Comment: 5 p., plain tex, preprint T94/078(Saclay), LPTHE 94/58(Orsay

THz emission from coherently controlled photocurrents in GaAs

We report broadband terahertz radiation from ballistic photocurrents generated via quantum interference of one- and two-photon absorption in low-temperature-grown and semi-insulating GaAs at 295 K. For 90 fs, 1550 and 775 nm optical pulses, we obtain phase-controllable near-single cycle 4 THz radiation. Higher frequency THz emission should be achievable with shorter pulses. At a 250 kHz repetition rate and average powers of 10 mW (1550 nm) and 400 μμW (775 nm), we measure 3 nW of THz power, limited mainly by phase walkoff of the optical beams within the 1.5-μμm-thick sample and collection efficiency. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/70293/2/APPLAB-75-25-3959-1.pd

Lepton flavor conserving Z -> l^+ l^-$ decays in the general two Higgs doublet model

    Get PDF
We calculate the new physics effects to the branching ratios of the lepton flavor conserving decays Z -> l^+ l^- in the framework of the general two Higgs Doublet model. We predict the upper limits for the couplings |\bar{\xi}^{D}_{N,\mu\tau}| and |\bar{\xi}^{D}_{N,\tau\tau}| as 3\times 10^2 GeV and 1\times 10^2 GeV, respectively.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure

Trileptons from Chargino-Neutralino Production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We study direct production of charginos and neutralinos at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We simulate all channels of chargino and neutralino production using ISAJET 7.07. The best mode for observing such processes appears to be pp\to\tw_1\tz_2\to 3\ell +\eslt. We evaluate signal expectations and background levels, and suggest cuts to optimize the signal. The trilepton mode should be viable provided m_{\tg}\alt 500-600~GeV; above this mass, the decay modes \tz_2\to\tz_1 Z and \tz_2\to H_{\ell}\tz_1 become dominant, spoiling the signal. In the first case, the leptonic branching fraction for ZZ decay is small and additional background from WZWZ is present, while in the second case, the trilepton signal is essentially absent. For smaller values of mtgm_{\tg}, the trilepton signal should be visible above background, especially if μmtg|\mu|\simeq m_{\tg} and m_{\tell}\ll m_{\tq}, in which case the leptonic decays of \tz_2 are enhanced. Distributions in dilepton mass m(ˉ)m(\ell\bar{\ell}) can yield direct information on neutralino masses due to the distribution cutoff at m_{\tz_2}-m_{\tz_1}. Other distributions that may lead to an additional constraint amongst the chargino and neutralino masses are also examined.Comment: preprint nos. SIGNALS FOR MINIMAL SUPERGRAVITY AT THE CERN LARGE HADRON COLLIDER: MULTI-JET PLUS MISSING ENERGY CHANNEL,

We use ISAJET to perform a detailed study of the missing transverse energy \eslt plus multi-jet signal expected from superparticle production at the CERN LHC. Our analysis is performed within the framework of the minimal supergravity model with gauge coupling unification and radiative electroweak symmetry breaking. We delineate the region of parameter space where the \eslt supersymmetry signal should be observable at the LHC and compare it to the regions explorable via searches for sleptons and for chargino/neutralino production. We confirm that, given a data sample of 10~\fb^{-1}, mtg1300m_{\tg}\sim 1300 GeV can be explored if m_{\tq}\gg m_{\tg}, while mtg2000m_{\tg}\sim 2000 GeV can be probed if m_{\tq}\simeq m_{\tg}. We further examine what information can be gleaned from scrutinizing this event sample. For instance, the multi-jet multiplicity yields information on whether squark production makes a significant contribution to the observed \eslt sample. Furthermore, reconstructing hemispheric masses may yield a measure of mtgm_{\tg} to 1525%\sim 15-25\%. Finally, for favourable ranges of parameters, by reconstructing masses of tagged bbˉb\bar{b} jet pairs, it may be possible to detect Higgs bosons produced via sparticle cascade decay chains.Comment: 22 pages (REVTEX); a PS text file (etmiss.ps) and 12 figures (etlhc.uu or etlhc.ps) can be obtained via anonymous ftp at ftp://hep.fsu.edu/anonymous.bae

Collider discovery limits for supersymmetric Higgs bosons

The prospects for discovery of the five Higgs bosons of the minimal supersymmetric standard model are assessed for existing and planned future colliders, including LEP\,I, LEP\,II, LHC and SSC. As a benchmark for comparisons, we take a top-quark mass mt=150m_t= 150\,GeV and squark mass parameter m~=1\tilde m= 1\,TeV in evaluating one-loop radiative corrections; some results for other mtm_t values are also given. Searches based on the most promising production and decay channels are taken into account. For large regions in parameter space, detectable signals are predicted for one or more of the Higgs bosons, but there remains a region for which no signals would be visible at the above colliders.Comment: 24 pages, 23 postscript figures available on request. Supersonic strain front driven by a dense electron-hole plasma

    Get PDF
We study coherent strain in (001) Ge generated by an ultrafast laser-initiated high density electron-hole plasma. The resultant coherent pulse is probed by time-resolved x-ray diffraction through changes in the anomalous transmission. The acoustic pulse front is driven by ambipolar diffusion of the electron-hole plasma and propagates into the crystal at supersonic speeds. Simulations of the strain including electron-phonon coupling, modified by carrier diffusion and Auger recombination, are in good agreement with the observed dynamics.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
