Physical environment, nutrient budget, and ecology of Lake Moana-nui, Tokoroa
This report is based on fortnightly monitoring data collected over a 14 month period from November 2000 to January 2002 and a survey of the lake bathymetry and vegetation distribution. The project also included a detailed investigation into the associations between macroinvertebrates and the native and exotic plants in the lake, and experiments evaluating the effects of the large populations of the water flea Simocephalus vetulus that the lake maintains on algal concentrations and therefore water clarity. The aim of this report is to present and discuss the results of the monitoring, surveys, and experiments in order to make recommendations for the future management and health of Lake Moana-nui

Exosomes promote pre-metastatic niche formation in ovarian cancer.
Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecological malignancies. Upon initial diagnosis, the majority of patients present with widespread metastatic growth within the peritoneal cavity. This metastatic growth occurs in stages, with the formation of a pre-metastatic niche occurring prior to macroscopic tumor cell invasion. Exosomes released by the primary ovarian tumor are small extracellular vesicles which prepare the distant tumor microenvironment for accelerated metastatic invasion. They regulate intercellular communication between tumor cells and normal stroma, cancer-associated fibroblasts, and local immune cells within the tumor microenvironment. In this review, we highlight the emerging roles of ovarian cancer exosomes as coordinators of pre-metastatic niche formation, biomarkers amenable to liquid biopsy, and targets of chemotherapy
Shell-Model Monte Carlo Simulations of BCS-BEC Crossover in Few-Fermion Systems
We study a trapped system of fermions with a zero-range two-body interaction
using the shell-model Monte Carlo method, providing {\em ab initio} results for
the low particle number limit where mean-field theory is not applicable. We
present results for the -body energies as function of interaction strength,
particle number, and temperature. The subtle question of renormalization in a
finite model space is addressed and the convergence of our method and its
applicability across the BCS-BEC crossover is discussed. Our findings indicate
that very good quantitative results can be obtained on the BCS side, whereas at
unitarity and in the BEC regime the convergence is less clear. Comparison to
N=2 analytics at zero and finite temperature, and to other calculations in the
literature for show very good agreement.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, Revtex4, final versio
