Use of flight interception traps of Malaise type and attractive traps for social wasps record (Vespidae: Polistinae)
The literature provides different methodologies for sampling social
wasps, including, flight intercept trap type Malaise and Attractive
trap, however, there is no consensus on its use. In this respect, the
aim of this study was to evaluate the best use of Malaise traps and
Attractive trap in biodiversity work of social wasps, and generate a
collection protocol for the use of these traps. The study was conducted
in the Parque Estadual do Rio Doce, located in the east of the state
of Minas Gerais, in the years 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 and in the
Botanical Garden of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, located in
the southeastern state of Minas Gerais, in years 2011, 2012 and 2013.
15 species were collected using Malaise traps, and, 26 species of social
wasps were collected using Attractive traps. Although the negative
aspects of both traps, complementary methodologies surveys varying
social wasps are useful and it is recommended to choose for using in
accordance with the logistical field
Exotic looped trajectories via quantum marking
We provide an analytical and theoretical study of exotic looped trajectories
(ELTs) in a double-slit interferometer with quantum marking. We use an excited
Rydberg-like atom and which-way detectors such as superconducting cavities,
just as in the Scully-Englert-Walther interferometer. We indicate appropriate
conditions on the atomic beam or superconducting cavities so that we determine
an interference pattern and fringe visibility exclusive from the ELTs. We
quantitatively describe our results for Rubidium atoms and propose this
framework as an alternative scheme to the double-slit experiment modified to
interfere only these exotic trajectories.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure
Vision Is Adapted to the Natural Level of Blur Present in the Retinal Image
Background
The image formed by the eye's optics is inherently blurred by aberrations specific to an individual's eyes. We examined how visual coding is adapted to the optical quality of the eye. Methods and Findings
We assessed the relationship between perceived blur and the retinal image blur resulting from high order aberrations in an individual's optics. Observers judged perceptual blur in a psychophysical two-alternative forced choice paradigm, on stimuli viewed through perfectly corrected optics (using a deformable mirror to compensate for the individual's aberrations). Realistic blur of different amounts and forms was computer simulated using real aberrations from a population. The blur levels perceived as best focused were close to the levels predicted by an individual's high order aberrations over a wide range of blur magnitudes, and were systematically biased when observers were instead adapted to the blur reproduced from a different observer's eye. Conclusions
Our results provide strong evidence that spatial vision is calibrated for the specific blur levels present in each individual's retinal image and that this adaptation at least partly reflects how spatial sensitivity is normalized in the neural coding of blur. This work was supported by the following: Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICINN), Formación de Personal Investigador (FPI) Predoctoral Fellowship to LS; Consejo Superior de Investigaciones CientÃficas (CSIC) I3P Predoctoral Fellowship to PdG; EY-10834 to MW; MICINN FIS2008-02065 and EURYI-05-102-ES (European Heads of Research Councils-European Science Foundation EUROHORCs-ESF) to SM.
The increasing of the new scientific areas, along with the multitude of information items, it's pushing the librarians to find creatively novel ways to gather information for the development of the collection under their responsability. This must definitely change the usual practice of these professionals towards mastering moderns IT tools in order to better analyse a huge volume of data in a shorter amount of time. Hence, this paper discusses a proposal of building metadata of the syllabus plans, within a university to easy the minering some important information out of them as part of a master collection development policy
TP30 210.
