Spatio-temporal patterns of vegetation recovery in post-agricultural forests in Flanders

Spatio-temporal forest cover changes between 1775 and 2000 in Flanders were mapped in a GIS, to explain the recovery level of present-day forest vegetation in post-agricultural forests. By mapping forest cover changes in relation to a site qualification, the impact of spatio-temporal forest cover changes on habitat availability, quality, and connectivity, were quantified. The first chapters of this work covered the whole of Flanders, but in the following chapters additional information on soil, light, and forest management was used to explain patterns of vegetation recovery with a high spatial and temporal resolution

Imaging features of knuckle pads

Knuckle pads are benign subcutaneous fibrotic plaques. Clinically, these lesions present as slowly enlarging, painless and mobile nodules, typically located at the extensor site of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints. On ultrasound, knuckle pads present as subcutaneous hypoechogenic nodular thickenings. These lesions have a low to intermediate signal intensity on T1-WI and T2-WI MRI. Solely on the clinical presentation and the typical location, the diagnosis of knuckle pads can be made, however the radiologist has to be aware of the imaging features of knuckle pads to avoid misdiagnosis and potentially harmful treatment

Internationale politiek

In dit hoofdstuk brengen we een korte inleiding tot de studie van de internationale politiek, doorgaans aangeduid als de ‘internationale betrekkingen’. We starten met een korte defiitie van Internationale Betrekkingen1, geven vervolgens een overzicht van de belangrijkste theoretische scholen, gevolgd door een bespreking van een paar belangrijke actoren in de Internationale Betrekkingen. We staan even stil bij de meest universele internationale organisatie, de Verenigde Naties, en behandelen dan summier de grote thema’s in de Internationale Betrekkingen. Tot slot komen we terug tot de vraag: wat bestudeert de Internationale Politiek precies
