The Relationship between Military Combat and Cardiovascular Risk: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death among military veterans with several reports suggesting a link between combat and related traumatic injury (TI) to an increased CVD risk. The aim of this paper is to conduct a widespread systematic review and meta-analysis of the relationship between military combat ± TI to CVD and its associated risk factors. Methods. PubMed, EmbaseProQuest, Cinahl databases and Cochrane Reviews were examined for all published observational studies (any language) reporting on CVD risk and outcomes, following military combat exposure ± TI versus a comparative nonexposed control population. Two investigators independently extracted data. Data quality was rated and rated using the 20-item AXIS Critical Appraisal Tool. The risk of bias (ROB using the ROBANS 6 item tool) and strength of evidence (SOE) were also critically appraised. Results. From 4499 citations, 26 studies (14 cross sectional and 12 cohort; 78-100% male) met the inclusion criteria. The follow up period ranged from 1 to 43.6 years with a sample size ranging from 19 to 621901 participants in the combat group. Combat-related TI was associated with a significantly increased risk for CVD (RR 1.80: 95% CI 1.24-2.62; I 2 = 59 %, p = 0.002) and coronary heart disease (CHD)-related death (risk ratio 1.57: 95% CI 1.35-1.83; I 2 = 0 %, p = 0.77: p < 0.0001), although the SOE was low. Military combat (without TI) was linked to a marginal, yet significantly lower pooled risk (low SOE) of cardiovascular death in the active combat versus control population (RR 0.90: CI 0.83-0.98; I 2 = 47 %, p = 0.02). There was insufficient evidence linking combat ± TI to any other cardiovascular outcomes or risk factors. Conclusion. There is low SOE to support a link between combat-related TI and both cardiovascular and CHD-related mortality. There is insufficient evidence to support a positive association between military combat ± any other adverse cardiovascular outcomes or risk factors. Data from well conducted prospective cohort studies following combat are needed

Resolution of the Nested Hierarchy for Rational sl(n) Models
We construct Drinfel'd twists for the rational sl(n) XXX-model giving rise to
a completely symmetric representation of the monodromy matrix. We obtain a
polarization free representation of the pseudoparticle creation operators
figuring in the construction of the Bethe vectors within the framework of the
quantum inverse scattering method. This representation enables us to resolve
the hierarchy of the nested Bethe ansatz for the sl(n) invariant rational
Heisenberg model. Our results generalize the findings of Maillet and Sanchez de

The fully differential hadronic production of a Higgs boson via bottom quark fusion at NNLO
The fully differential computation of the hadronic production cross section
of a Higgs boson via bottom quarks is presented at NNLO in QCD. Several
differential distributions with their corresponding scale uncertainties are
presented for the 8 TeV LHC. This is the first application of the method of

Form factors of integrable Heisenberg (higher) spin chains
We present determinant formulae for the form factors of spin operators of
general integrable XXX Heisenberg spin chains for arbitrary (finite
dimensional) spin representations. The results apply to any "mixed" spin
chains, such as alternating spin chains, or to spin chains with magnetic

Analytic Results for Higgs Production in Bottom Fusion
We evaluate analytically the cross section for Higgs production plus one jet
through bottom quark fusion. By considering the small pT limit we derive
expressions for the resummation coefficients governing the structure of large
logarithms, and compare these expressions with those available in the

Quantum Spin Chains and Riemann Zeta Function with Odd Arguments
Riemann zeta function is an important object of number theory. It was also
used for description of disordered systems in statistical mechanics. We show
that Riemann zeta function is also useful for the description of integrable
model. We study XXX Heisenberg spin 1/2 anti-ferromagnet. We evaluate a
probability of formation of a ferromagnetic string in the anti-ferromagnetic
ground state in thermodynamics limit. We prove that for short strings the
probability can be expressed in terms of Riemann zeta function with odd

Supersymmetry and Generic BSM Models in PYTHIA 8
We describe the implementation of supersymmetric models in PYTHIA 8,
including production and decay of superparticles and allowing for violation of
flavour, CP, and R-parity. We also present a framework for importing generic
new-physics matrix elements into PYTHIA 8, in a way suitable for use with
automated tools. We emphasize that this possibility should not be viewed as the
only way to implement new-physics models in PYTHIA 8, but merely as an
additional possibility on top of the already existing ones. Finally we address
parton showers in exotic colour topologies, in particular ones involving colour
epsilon tensors and colour sextets.Comment: 20 page
Universal contributions to scalar masses from five dimensional supergravity
We compute the effective Kahler potential for matter fields in warped
compactifications, starting from five dimensional gauged supergravity, as a
function of the matter fields localization. We show that truncation to zero
modes is inconsistent and the tree-level exchange of the massive gravitational
multiplet is needed for consistency of the four-dimensional theory. In addition
to the standard Kahler coming from dimensional reduction, we find the quartic
correction coming from integrating out the gravity multiplet. We apply our
result to the computation of scalar masses, by assuming that the SUSY breaking
field is a bulk hypermultiplet. In the limit of extreme opposite localization
of the matter and the spurion fields, we find zero scalar masses, consistent
with sequestering arguments. Surprisingly enough, for all the other cases the
scalar masses are tachyonic. This suggests the holographic interpretation that
a CFT sector always generates operators contributing in a tachyonic way to
scalar masses. Viability of warped su- persymmetric compactifications
necessarily asks then for additional contributions. We discuss the case of
additional bulk vector multiplets with mixed boundary conditions, which is a
partic- ularly simple and attractive way to generate large positive scalar
masses. We show that in this case successful fermion mass matrices implies
highly degenerate scalar masses for the first two generations of squarks and

d=3 Bosonic Vector Models Coupled to Chern-Simons Gauge Theories
We study three dimensional O(N)_k and U(N)_k Chern-Simons theories coupled to
a scalar field in the fundamental representation, in the large N limit. For
infinite k this is just the singlet sector of the O(N) (U(N)) vector model,
which is conjectured to be dual to Vasiliev's higher spin gravity theory on
AdS_4. For large k and N we obtain a parity-breaking deformation of this
theory, controlled by the 't Hooft coupling lambda = 4 \pi N / k. For infinite
N we argue (and show explicitly at two-loop order) that the theories with
finite lambda are conformally invariant, and also have an exactly marginal
(\phi^2)^3 deformation.
For large but finite N and small 't Hooft coupling lambda, we show that there
is still a line of fixed points parameterized by the 't Hooft coupling lambda.
We show that, at infinite N, the interacting non-parity-invariant theory with
finite lambda has the same spectrum of primary operators as the free theory,
consisting of an infinite tower of conserved higher-spin currents and a scalar
operator with scaling dimension \Delta=1; however, the correlation functions of
these operators do depend on lambda. Our results suggest that there should
exist a family of higher spin gravity theories, parameterized by lambda, and
continuously connected to Vasiliev's theory. For finite N the higher spin
