A simplified self-adaptive grid method, SAGE
The formulation of the Self-Adaptive Grid Evolution (SAGE) code, based on the work of Nakahashi and Deiwert, is described in the first section of this document. The second section is presented in the form of a user guide which explains the input and execution of the code, and provides many examples. Application of the SAGE code, by Ames Research Center and by others, in the solution of various flow problems has been an indication of the code's general utility and success. Although the basic formulation follows the method of Nakahashi and Deiwert, many modifications have been made to facilitate the use of the self-adaptive grid method for single, zonal, and multiple grids. Modifications to the methodology and the simplified input options make this current version a flexible and user-friendly code

A general exposition of the scientific potentialities and analytic framework of space photography is presented using the photography of Mars from flybys and orbiters as the principal example. Space photography is treated here as a communication process in which planetary scene information is communicated to the eye-brain receiver of earth-based interpreters. Analysis of fatigue, fatique-crack propagation, and fracture data
Analytical methods have been developed for consolidation of fatigue, fatigue-crack propagation, and fracture data for use in design of metallic aerospace structural components. To evaluate these methods, a comprehensive file of data on 2024 and 7075 aluminums, Ti-6A1-4V, and 300M and D6Ac steels was established. Data were obtained from both published literature and unpublished reports furnished by aerospace companies. Fatigue and fatigue-crack-propagation analyses were restricted to information obtained from constant-amplitude load or strain cycling of specimens in air at room temperature. Fracture toughness data were from tests of center-cracked tension panels, part-through crack specimens, and compact-tension specimens
Heavy meson masses and decay constants from relativistic heavy quarks in full lattice QCD
We determine masses and decay constants of heavy-heavy and heavy-charm
pseudoscalar mesons as a function of heavy quark mass using a fully
relativistic formalism known as Highly Improved Staggered Quarks for the heavy
quark. We are able to cover the region from the charm quark mass to the bottom
quark mass using MILC ensembles with lattice spacing values from 0.15 fm down
to 0.044 fm. We obtain f_{B_c} = 0.427(6) GeV; m_{B_c} = 6.285(10) GeV and
f_{\eta_b} = 0.667(6) GeV. Our value for f_{\eta_b} is within a few percent of
f_{\Upsilon} confirming that spin effects are surprisingly small for heavyonium
decay constants. Our value for f_{B_c} is significantly lower than potential
model values being used to estimate production rates at the LHC. We discuss the
changing physical heavy-quark mass dependence of decay constants from
heavy-heavy through heavy-charm to heavy-strange mesons. A comparison between
the three different systems confirms that the B_c system behaves in some ways
more like a heavy-light system than a heavy-heavy one. Finally we summarise
current results on decay constants of gold-plated mesons.Comment: 16 pages, 12 figure
B Leptonic Decays and B- bar B Mixing with 2+1 Flavors of Dynamical Quarks
Calculations of B leptonic decays and B- bar B mixing using NRQCD heavy and
Asqtad light valence quarks on the MILC dynamical configurations are described.
Smearing has been implemented to substantially reduce the statistical errors of
the matrix elements needed for the determination of f_B. The four-fermion
matrix elements needed for the determination of f_{B_s}^2B_{B_s} have been

Feasibility and concept study to convert the NASA/AMES vertical motion simulator to a helicopter simulator
The conceptual design for converting the vertical motion simulator (VMS) to a multi-purpose aircraft and helicopter simulator is presented. A unique, high performance four degrees of freedom (DOF) motion system was developed to permanently replace the present six DOF synergistic system. The new four DOF system has the following outstanding features: (1) will integrate with the two large VMS translational modes and their associated subsystems; (2) can be converted from helicopter to fixed-wing aircraft simulation through software changes only; (3) interfaces with an advanced cab/visual display system of large dimensions; (4) makes maximum use of proven techniques, convenient materials and off-the-shelf components; (5) will operate within the existing building envelope without modifications; (6) can be built within the specified weight limit and avoid compromising VMS performance; (7) provides maximum performance with a minimum of power consumption; (8) simple design minimizes coupling between motions and maximizes reliability; and (9) can be built within existing budgetary figures
