Finite Element Integration on GPUs
We present a novel finite element integration method for low order elements
on GPUs. We achieve more than 100GF for element integration on first order

On the Observability of "Invisible" / "Nearly Invisible" Charginos
It is shown that if the charginos decay into very soft leptons or hadrons +
due to degeneracy/ near- degeneracy with the LSP or the sneutrino,
the observability of the recently proposed signal via the single photon (+ soft
particles) + channel crucially depends on the magnitude of the \SNU
mass due to destructive interferences in the matrix element squared. If the
\SNU's and, consequently, left-sleptons are relatively light, the size of the
signal, previously computed in the limit \MSNU \to \infty only, is
drastically reduced. We present the formula for the signal cross section in a
model independent way and discuss the observability of the signal at LEP 192

Distinguishing Supersymmetry From Universal Extra Dimensions or Little Higgs Models With Dark Matter Experiments
There are compelling reasons to think that new physics will appear at or
below the TeV-scale. It is not known what form this new physics will take,
however. Although The Large Hadron collider is very likely to discover new
particles associated with the TeV-scale, it may be difficult for it to
determine the nature of those particles, whether superpartners, Kaluza-Klein
modes or other states. In this article, we consider how direct and indirect
dark matter detection experiments may provide information complementary to
hadron colliders, which can be used to discriminate between supersymmetry,
models with universal extra dimensions, and Little Higgs theories. We find
that, in many scenarios, dark matter experiments can be effectively used to

Field performance of Xa21 transgenic indica rice (Oryza sativa L.), IR72
Based on the characterization of the resistance phenotype and molecular analysis, several homozygous lines carrying Xa21 against the bacterial blight (BB) pathogen were obtained from previously transformed indica rice, IR72. The homozygous line, T103-10, with the best phenotype and seed-setting, was repeatedly tested under normal field conditions to evaluate its levels of resistance to the BB pathogen in Wuhan, China, in 1998 and 1999. The isolates of Xanthomonas oryzae pv oryzae (Xoo) used in this experiments were PXO61, PXO79, PXO99 and PXO112 isolated from the Philippines, T2 isolated from Japan, and Zhe173 isolated from China. The results demonstrated that the transgenic homozygous line expressed the same resistance spectrum, but with a shorter lesion length to each inoculated isolates as the lesion length of the Xa21 donor line IRBB21. The non-transformed control IR72 carrying Xa4 was resistant to PXO61, PXO112, Zhe173 and T2, but susceptible to PXO99 and PXO79. The negative control variety IR24 was susceptible to all isolates under field conditions. The results demonstrated clearly that the Xa21 transgene led to an excellent field performance of the introduced bacterial blight resistance trait on the recipient plants. The yield performance of this transgenic homozygous line, T103-10, is comparable with that of the control under field conditions
Multiparameter tests of general relativity using multiband gravitational-wave observations
In this Letter we show that multiband observations of stellar-mass binary
black holes by the next generation of ground-based observatories (3G) and the
space-based Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) would facilitate a
comprehensive test of general relativity by simultaneously measuring all the
post-Newtonian (PN) coefficients. Multiband observations would measure most of
the known PN phasing coefficients to an accuracy below a few percent---two
orders-of-magnitude better than the best bounds achievable from even `golden'
binaries in the 3G or LISA bands. Such multiparameter bounds would play a
pivotal role in constraining the parameter space of modified theories of

Characterization of a C4 maize pyruvate orthophosphate dikinase expressed in C3 transgenic rice plants
Pyruvate orthophosphate dikinase (PPDK) is a key enzyme in plants that utilize the C4 photosynthetic pathway to fix CO2. The enzymatic reaction catalyzed by PPDK is critically controlled by light and is one of the rate-limiting steps of the C4 pathway. The intact maize (Zea mays) C4-PPDK gene, containing its own promoter, terminator sequences and exon/intron structure was introduced into rice (Oryza sativa L. Indica “IR64”), a C3 plant. Expression of C4-PPDK in most transgenic rice lines resulted in increased CO2 assimilation rates compared to untransformed control plants. Most of the transformants showed higher photosynthetic activities than that of wild-type plant. Total nitrogen in the flag leaves of C4-PPDK transgenics was analyzed. Results showed an increase in total nitrogen compared to untransformed control plants suggesting that C4-PPDK expression in rice promoted nitrogen absorption from the soil.In addition, the photosynthesis rate of some transgenic IR64 lines was also increased in the greenhouse. Molecular analysis revealed that the intact PPDK gene integrated in the rice genome and affected the phenotypes of plants particularly tillers and enhanced yield of transgenic IR64 rice plants in the greenhouse
Mass and Scalar Cross-sections for Neutralino Dark Matter in Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking Model
We have considered neutralino to be the lightest supersymmetric particle
(LSP) in the framework of minimal Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetric (mAMSB)
model. We have studied variation of neutralino mass with the supersymmetric
parameters. Considering these neutralinos to be the candidates for weakly
interacting massive particle (WIMP) or cold dark matter (CDM), we have
calculated the neutralino nucleon scalar cross-sections and compared them with
DAMA-NaI neutralino direct detection search results. From this study we observe
that the mAMSB model results cannot explain the allowed region in WIMP mass and
WIMP-nucleon scalar cross-section space obtained from annual modulation

Ballistic-Ohmic quantum Hall plateau transition in graphene pn junction
Recent quantum Hall experiments conducted on disordered graphene pn junction
provide evidence that the junction resistance could be described by a simple
Ohmic sum of the n and p mediums' resistances. However in the ballistic limit,
theory predicts the existence of chirality-dependent quantum Hall plateaus in a
pn junction. We show that two distinctively separate processes are required for
this ballistic-Ohmic plateau transition, namely (i) hole/electron Landau states
equilibration and (ii) valley iso-spin dilution of the incident Landau edge
state. These conclusions are obtained by a simple scattering theory argument,
and confirmed numerically by performing ensembles of quantum magneto-transport
calculations on a 0.1um-wide disordered graphene pn junction within the
tight-binding model. The former process is achieved by pn interface roughness,
where a pn interface disorder with a root-mean-square roughness of 10nm was
found to suffice under typical experimental conditions. The latter process is
mediated by extrinsic edge roughness for an armchair edge ribbon and by
intrinsic localized intervalley scattering centers at the edge of the pn
interface for a zigzag ribbon. In light of these results, we also examine why
higher Ohmic type plateaus are less likely to be observable in experiments.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure
