    Leakage current and surface discharge phenomena : effect on tracking and morphological properties of LLDPE-natural rubber compounds

    Polymeric insulators are widely used for high voltage outdoor insulating application due to their substantial advantages compared to the porcelain and glass insulators. Although polymer materials have been proven good, research on development of new polymerbased materials is still on going since the benefits of using polymeric materials are not yet utilised to their full potential. In this work, a new formulated thermoplastic elastomer materials that are composed of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and natural rubber (NR) filled with different loadings of alumina trihydrate (ATH) fillers is presented. A surface tracking and erosion test is conducted to investigate the characteristics of leakage current on the material surface under the influence of wet contaminated conditions. A computer-based leakage current monitoring system is developed to monitor the leakage current waveform pattern as well as its frequency spectrum. The scanning electron microscope is used to investigate the morphological properties of the materials before and after the tracking test

    Untuk memahami hubungan sebab-akibat ketidakstabilan harga cabai di Pekanbaru; yang diperekirakan erat kaitannya dengan disebabkan dari segi system agribisnis dan rantai persediaan (supply chain) suatu penelitian survei denga metoda kualitatif dilakukan. Pada kenyataannya system agribisnis cabai belum terbentuk secara terpadu dan melembaga sehingga tidak ada bentuk pengendalian lonjakan harga yang telah berlangsung berpuluh tahun, yang sepenuhnya ditentukan pasar. Sumber persediaan cabai berasal dari Jawa Tengah, mengganti sumber persediaan dari Sumatera Barat. Bahkan juga pernah diimpor dari China, Malaysia dan Korea seperti pada tahun 2014. Pertumbuhan penduduk Pekanbaru yang pesat tidak mampu diimbangi oleh usaha tani cabai yang sebenanya semakin berkembang di Pekanbaru dalam tingkat yang agak lambat. Difahami secara garis besar hubungan sebab-akibatnya antara ketidakstabilan harga bahkan juga angka inflasi sesaat di Pekanbaru. Keadaan itu erat kaitannya dengan belum mantapnya system agribisnis, terutama kelembagaannya. Rantai persediaan (supply chain) cabai ternyata sudah berubah selaras dengan perubahan meningkatnya penduduk Pekanbaru.     Peninjauan keadaan umum pembangunan dan pembinaan perdesaan, khususnya  perikanan di Kuala Kampar dalam rangka menjadikannya sebagai wilayah binaan Pusat Kajian Pembangunan Berkelanjutan UIR telah dilakukan Agustus 2015 lalu.Pengamatan singkat ke Pulau Mendolmengenai proses sosialisasi keberadaan, visi dan misi  program Bupati khususnya serta sosialisasi kebijakan dan perkembangan kawasan khususnya yang telah dilakukan selama dua hari bersama Bupati mengadakan perjalanan dari Pangkalan Kerinci sampai ke Teluk Dalam di Kecamatan Kuala Kampar dengan menggunakan kapal cepat. UIR, yang diharapkan menyusun program kegiatan desa binaan yang akan dilakukan juga menumbuhkan pendapatan dan memajukan mutu kehidupan masyarakat desa. Kebanyakan perempuan secara aktif terkait dengan ekonomi rumah tangga mereka, dengan mengerjakan pengolahan ikan yang ditangkap para suami, yang secara teknologis dan higienis dapat dimaju-baikkan nanti.  Sementara itu sumber daya perairan sungai danau cenderung menurun sehingga pemulihan sumber di antaranya dengan pencagaran hutan lahan basah maupun ‘restocking’ penting diutamakan  terpadu bersamaan pembangunan pedesaan yang lainnya. Didasarkan kepada kepakaran UIR berkenaan pembangunan desa dan masyarakat, teristimewa dalam bidang perikanan dan  budidaya perikanan serta teknologi pengolahan ikan, suatu pembinaaan yang menyeluruh dan sistemik dapat diprogramkan dengan memperkuat perikanan dan sumber dayanya dalam mendukung pengembangan pertanian sagu dan hortikultura di pekarangan maupun menyokong ekonomi kreatif tempatan yang  akan mendukung otonomi desa dan kemandirian ekonomi melalui sistem agro-aquabisnis dan ekonomi aquaindustri

    Relationship between hygiene factor dimensions and intention to leave among prison personnel: A study in northern region of Malaysia

    The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between dimensions of hygiene factors and intention to leave among prison personnel, as well as to identify any dominant dimension of hygiene factor that has higher effect than other dimensions related to intention to leave. This is done by mean of survey, where questionnaires were distributed to 310 randomly selected respondents. The statistical method involved reliability test, Pearson correlations and multiple regression.The data was analyzed by using SPSS version 16.0.The findings indicate that there is significant negative relationship between three dimensions of hygiene factor and intention to leave, however only one dimension was found to be not significant. Coworker is the dominant dimension that has the highest influence on intention to leave.These findings show that the related factors should be given attention to retain employees in the organization.Some suggestions have been made to the organization concerned and for the new direction of future research

    Simulation Studies of Gas-Solid in the Riser of a Circulating Fluidized Bed

    A numerical parametric study was performed on the influence of various riser exit geometries on the hydrodynamics of gas-solid two-phase flow in the riser of a Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB). A Eulerian continuum formulation was applied to both phases. A two fluid framework has been used to simulate fully developed gas-solid flows in vertical riser. A two dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model of gas-particle flow in the CFB has been investigated using the code FLUENT. The turbulence was modeled by a k-e turbulence model in the gas phase. The simulations were done using the geometrical configuration of a CFB test rig at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The CFB riser column has 265 mm (width), 72 mm (depth) and 2.7 m height. The riser is made up of interchangeable Plexiglas columns. The computational model was used to simulate the riser over a wide range of operating and design parameters. In addition, several numerical experiments were carried out to understand the influence of riser end effects, particle size, gas solid velocity and solid volume fraction on the simulated flow characteristics. The CFD model with a k-e turbulence model for the gas phase and a fixed particle viscosity in the solids phase showed good mixing behaviour. These results were found to be useful in further development of modeling of gas solid flow in the riser

    Work stress, pay satisfaction, psychological empowerment and organisational commitment among academic staff

    This study investigated the mediating effect of psychological empowerment on the relationship between work stress, pay satisfaction, and organisational commitment among academic staff in public universities.A total number of 297 academics responded to this study and Statistical Package Software for Social Science (SPSS) Version 21.0 was used to analyse the collected data.The results indicated that work stress is associated with organisational commitment, whereas pay satisfaction, psychological empowerment, and organisational commitment have significant relationships with each other.Furthermore, multiple regression analysis revealed that psychological empowerment partially mediated on the relationship between pay satisfaction and organisational commitment.It is recommended that future research could further extend by including non-academic staff as well

    Work stress among bank employees: A case study of Bank Rakyat

    The extent of stress faced by skilled employees in organizations is often substantial.In several professions, stress is intrinsic to the duty itself, where competing demands, challenges and pressures escort the duty and therefore cannot be avoided. On the organizational level, stress exists in every company. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that contribute of to work stress among Bank Rakyat’s employees. This study also aimed to determine if there were any statistically significant differences in the respondents’ level of work stress by demographic factors (gender, status, education qualification, job position and length of service).The survey was carried out at 12 branches of Bank Rakyat in the northern region of the Malaysian Peninsula. A total 154 bank employees participated in this study. Data was collected through a 40-item questionnaire on a five-point Likert Scale. The findings of this study showed that only organizational factors had a significant influence on work stress level.The study also revealed that the overall level of work stress among the respondents was moderate. While on the difference between the level of work stress by demographic factors, this study found that there was no statistically significant difference between these factors

    Experimental evaluation of active vibration control of a flexible plate using proportional gain controller

    Active Vibration Control (AVC) is well known nowadays as an optimum technique in vibration suppression of flexible structures. Due to the complexity of the dynamics system of flexible structures, vibration control process is quite a challenge. In this paper, the vibration control of flexible plate using classical proportional feedback gain controller method is studied, experimentally. The AVC-P controller design is implemented to a full clamped flexible plate system to evaluate its vibration attenuation performance. The system's dynamic model considering the collocated placement of the sensor and actuator is derived within the LabVIEW environment. The first five frequencies of vibration mode were obtained. The result indicated that the AVC-P controller propose possessed the ability to attenuate vibration of the flexible structure

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan program unggulan Dinas Perikanan dan Kelautan Kabupaten Deli Serdang, sikap nelayan terhadap program unggulan Dinas Perikanan dan Kelautan Kabupaten Deli Serdang, dan hubungan karakteristik nelayan (umur, tingkat pendidikan, pengalaman melaut, tingkat kosmopolitan, jumlah tanggungan keluarga, dan jumlah pendapatan) dengan sikap nelayan terhadap program unggulan Dinas Perikanan dan Kelautan Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data primer dan sekunder. Metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah Metode Skoring, Skala Likert, dan Korelasi Rank Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pelaksanaan program unggulan Dinas Perikanan dan Kelautan Kabupaten Deli Serdang berjalan kurang baik. Sikap nelayan terhadap program unggulan Dinas Perikanan dan Kelautan Kabupaten Deli Serdang adalah negatif. Terdapat hubungan (korelasi) karakteristik nelayan yaitu tingkat kosmopolitan dengan sikap nelayan terhadap program unggulan Dinas Perikanan dan Kelautan Kabupaten Deli Serdang

    Relationship between transformational leadership, organizational structure and knowledge management

    The study examines the relationships between transformational leadership style, knowledge management and organizational structure among 255 administrators in a public university in Malaysia. The findings of this study reveal that transformational leadership style is a vital in promoting knowledge management practices in an organization.Specifically, the result of this study reveals that idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration of transformational leadership style significantly influence knowledge management practices. The organizational structure was found to moderate the effect of transformational leadership on knowledge management indicating that organizational structure plays a crucial role in assisting the leaders to manage knowledge across the organization
