    Initial Condition Sensitivity of Global Quantities in Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence

    In this paper we study the effect of subtle changes in initial conditions on the evolution of global quantities in two-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. We find that a change in the initial phases of complex Fourier modes of the Els\"{a}sser variables, while keeping the initial values of total energy, cross helicity and Alfv\'{e}n ratio unchanged, has a significant effect on the evolution of cross helicity. On the contrary, the total energy and Alfv\'{e}n ratio are insensitive to the initial phases.     Addition of benzodiazepines to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors to optimize treatment of depression: a hospital based study

    Background: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ameliorate depression and anxiety slowly and in fact increase anxiety or insomnia initially. Addition of clonazepam to escitalopram improves response: thereby improving symptoms associated with depression, reducing side-effects and alleviating core depressive symptoms. The aim of study was to assess the benefits of adding benzodiazepines in management of depression.Methods: It was an open label prospective study of 8 weeks of escitalopram group versus escitalopram with benzodiazepine group in moderate to severe depression. 51 subjects who gave written informed consent and were fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the study and grouped into escitalopram alone or escitalopram with benzodiazepines.Results: In the present study nearly 60% of the patients were prescribed clonazepam. Though combined group with benzodiazepines had faster onset of action in controlling depressive symptoms than escitalopram group alone at 4 weeks of treatment, there was no significant difference in the pattern of reduction of MADRS score in both the groups at 8 weeks of follow up.Conclusions: Augmenting benzodiazepines to antidepressants are more effective in management of depression associated anxiety and sleep disturbances initially till SSRIs start action

    Diagnosing magnetars with transient cooling

    Transient X-ray emission, with an approximate t^{-0.7} decay, was observed from SGR 1900+14 over 40 days following the the giant flare of 27 Aug 1998. We calculate in detail the diffusion of heat to the surface of a neutron star through an intense 10^{14}-10^{15} G magnetic field, following the release of magnetic energy in its outer layers. We show that the power law index, the fraction of burst energy in the afterglow, and the return to persistent emission can all be understood if the star is composed of normal baryonic material.Comment: 9 pages, 1 eps figur

    Helminth infection in coldwater fishes of Suru river Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, India

    A helminthological survey of coldwater fishes of Ladakh was carried out from November 2007 to April 2009 (18 months). A total of 93 fishes belonging to two species viz., Schizothorax plagiostomus and Diptychus maculatus were collected and examined from different collection sites of Suru river, Kargil. A total of 2 helminth species viz., Neoechinorhynchus yalei Datta, 1936 and Rhabdochona himalayai Fotedar & Dhar, 1977 belonging to two helminth groups, i-e. Acanthocephala and Nematode were reported. It was found that out of 93 hosts examined, 31 were found infected with 43 parasites recovered in total, with an overall prevalence, mean intensity and abundance of 33.33%, 1.38 and 0.46 respectively. Distribution of helminth infection and its relation with sex and size of host was analysed. The helminth infection showed no significant relationship with sex of hosts however it showed mostly significant relation to size of host

    Answer Set Programming for Non-Stationary Markov Decision Processes

    Non-stationary domains, where unforeseen changes happen, present a challenge for agents to find an optimal policy for a sequential decision making problem. This work investigates a solution to this problem that combines Markov Decision Processes (MDP) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) with Answer Set Programming (ASP) in a method we call ASP(RL). In this method, Answer Set Programming is used to find the possible trajectories of an MDP, from where Reinforcement Learning is applied to learn the optimal policy of the problem. Results show that ASP(RL) is capable of efficiently finding the optimal solution of an MDP representing non-stationary domains

    Flux of Primordial Monopoles

    We discuss how in supersymmetric models with D and F-flat directions, a primordial monopole flux of order 10^{-16} - 10^{-18} cm^{-2} sec^{-1} sr^{-1} can coexist with the observed baryon asymmetry. A modified Affleck-Dine scenario yields the desired asymmetry if the monopoles are superheavy (~ 10^{13}-10^{18} GeV). For lighter monopoles with masses ~ 10^{9}-10^{12} GeV, the baryon asymmetry can arise via TeV scale leptogenesis.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, revtex

    On Weighted Nwikpe Distribution: Properties and Applications

    In this article, two-parameter continuous distribution is introduced. The proposed distribution is obtained by using a weight technique and is referred to as weighted Nwikpe distribution. This distribution is a generalization of baseline distribution that is Nwikpe distribution. Some structural properties of the distribution are derived. These are density function, distribution function, and reliability function, hazard rate function, moments, moment generating function, entropies, order statistics, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves. The method of maximum likelihood estimation has been established for investigating the parameters of the model. The behaviour of the parameters of the distribution is examined by a simulation study. Real data set is used to determine whether the weighted Nwikpe distribution is better than other well-known distributions in modeling data or not

    Mouth Image Based Person Authentication Using DWLSTM and GRU

    Recently several classification methods were introduced to solve mouth based biometric authentication systems. The results of previous investigations into mouth prints are insufficient and produce lesser authentication results. This is mainly due to the difficulties that accompany any analysis of the mouths: mouths are very flexible and pliable, and successive mouth print impressions even those obtained from the same person may significantly differ from one other. The existing machine learning methods, may not achieve higher performance and only few methods are available using deep learning for mouth biometric authentication. The use of deep learning based mouth biometrics authentication gives higher results than usual machine learning methods. The proposed mouth based biometric authentication (MBBA) system is rigorously examined with real world data and challenges with the purpose that could be expected on mouth-based solution deployed on a mobile device. The proposed system has three major steps such as (1) database collection, (2) creating model for authentication, (3) performance evaluation. The database is collected from Annamalai University deep learning laboratory which consists of 5000 video frames belongs to 10 persons. The person authentication model is created using divergence weight long short term memory (DWLSTM) and gated recurrent unit (GRU) to capture the temporal relationship in mouth images of a person. The existing and proposed methods are implemented via the Anaconda with Jupyter notebook. Finally the results of the proposed model are compared against existing methods such as support vector machine (SVM), and Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) with respect to metrics like precision, recall, F1-score, and accuracy of mouth

    Transdermal Drug Delivery System in Veterinary Practice: An Overview

    In veterinary practice drug delivery strategies are complicated by species diversity, body size variations, cost constraints and level of convenience. A new frontier in the administration of therapeutic drugs to veterinary species is transdermal drug delivery system. It implies topical drug application to achieve systemic pharmacological effects. Its efficacy is primarily dependent upon the barrier properties of the targeted species skin, as well as the ratio of the area of the patch to the species total body mass needed to achieve effective systemic drug concentrations. The candidate drug must have sufficient lipid solubility to be considered for transdermal delivery. The adhesive of the patches is critical to the safety, efficacy and quality of the product. This novel drug delivery system offers many advantages over conventional oral and invasive methods of drug delivery like reduction in hepatic first pass metabolism, enhancement of therapeutic efficiency, maintenance of steady plasma level of the drug and improved owner compliance. With efficient experimental designs and available transdermal patch technology, there are no obvious hurdles for the development of effective therapeutic agents in veterinary practice
